Sans is the one who snaps me out of my awestruck trance by grabbing my hand and tugging me along with him. "Come with me, Human!!" He chirps excitedly. "To the secret hideout!"
I laugh and follow him, walking into the nearby woods.
Turning, I look at Dream and Ink, who stand motionless where they were before, talking to eachother silently. Their mouths move with unheard words and phrases, as if keeping a secret.
"Yo, Ink! Dream!" I shout, grabbing their attention. "You coming?"
The two look at me, and then at eachother. With a smile, Ink follows me and Dream shuffles after. I feel such joy, being here with my friends.
Ink laughs at my astonishment, a broad grin on his face. He plucks a F/C flower from a nearby bush, walks close to me, and tucks it into my hair. My face warms slightly. Beaming, I ask, "What was that for?"
"You look nice that way," He comments. "It suits you well."
My face feels like an oven at this point. A genuine grin finds it's way to my lips, my heart feels like flying away and my entire body seems to be so lightweight. "Thanks," I chuckle, "Nobody really compliments me a lot..." I admit, shyly holding one of my arms close to my body.
"I can't see why. You look great," He shrugs, one of his eyes blue and the other pink. He smiles warmly.
"Oh, now you're just trying to flatter me," I laugh, playfully punching his arm.
"It's working." Ink laughs, elbowing my side.
"Shut up..."
"Okay, you two flirts, we're here," Dream teases, a smirk on his face.
"I'm not--"
I look ahead to see Sans dissapearing into a curtain of vines. "Sans, wait up!" I shout, running after him. Pushing back the greenery, I allow my eyes to adjust to the natural sunlight.
And oh, it's beautiful.
Every inch of the garden has lush green plants blanketing it. Flowers, trees, fruits and animals are perfectly arranged in the most beautiful way. Old, moss-covered statues and ruins litter the wildlife, giving the entire place an ancient, mystical feeling to it.
But the most beautiful piece of all is the fountain.
It sprouts water, clear and pristine, like a crystal in the sunlight. Engraved in it's quartz base are intricate carvings of gods, goddesses, deities, flowers, and so, so much more. It's breathtaking, this place, it's age, history, importance...
...There's just so much energy here.
"This is..." I breath, my eyes wide. "Astonishing..." I walk forwards and stand perfectly still, taking in the scene.
"From the books left here when we came, it's supposedly believed to be a sacred fountain, activated by runes - but only by someone powerful enough. The book said 'This sacred water is to be splashed, to be drank, to be given to the one who sees the numerals, lest the ground reclaims all and she who speaks with the wind is angered.'," Ink explains, perplexed. "We're not sure what that means. The message was written in an unknown language, like Roman but not. We were only able to translate it completely by using Dream's magic, and even then it made no sense. Either way, we come here because... well, nobody else can."
"What?" I ask.
"Nobody else can come here. It's only us who can pass through, and anyone who accompanies us. We don't have anyone but eachother, so we made it ours. We keep it safe, and I like to read the books left here," He smiles at a bird flying by. "It's an ultimate safe-haven as well. Apparently, when we came here, our code was undetectable and kept us hidden. So it's an emergency hideout as well."
"So this place is ancient... but why is it in Dancetale?" I murmur, looking around.
"We're not sure. It is always here, no matter what. It's like magic has this place on lockdown," Dream shrugs, looking at the water. "It's a complete mystery."
"It's so beautiful." I smile, looking at the water.
"It is, Human! All the animals here love us. I like to watch them scurry around while Ink reads and Dream relaxes! It's always like summer here, even in the winter!" Sans chirps, his hands on his hips.
I smile. "Wow... that's pretty cool."
"Yes!" He giggles, walking into the scene. I follow him and sit on the edge of the fountain. I dip my fingers in the cold water and sway them back and forth, smiling as the colourful fish darting around pause to curiously nibble my fingertips. Ink sits on the ground beside me, opening an old book. I turn to him and look over his shoulder. The language looks almost indecipherable, unintelligible. A tap on my head startles me a bit. I look up at the culprit, which just happens to be Dream. He flashes me a smile and winks before walking towards Sans. Shrugging in confusion, I look back towards the book. The once unintelligible language is now translated into English, to my astonishment. The words read clearly.
"Cool, isn't it?" Ink asks, looking up at me.
"Yeah, actually, it is! I can read the words perfectly." I giggle. Ink nods and looks back to the book, reading again.
"The Runes Of The Wind"
Reads the book title. I raise an eyebrow at this, confused.
"Ink!!" Dream shouts worriedly, running over to us. Ink turns around and looks at the skeleton, his left eye a question mark.
"What's wrong?"
"Error and Horror are attacking Swapfell."
"Goddammit... just as we got here..." I mumble. "Let's go." I stand up and brush off my clothes.
"Are you sure you want to go again?" Dream asks. "The last time, you got hurt."
I nod. "I can't stand being left behind. It bothers me, and I want to help," I look at the two skeletons and then turn to yell, "Sans!"
"Yes, Human?" He asks, walking over to us.
"We're going to fight," Ink crosses his arms. "You ready?"
"ABSOLUTELY!" The small skeleton chirps. "WE'LL CRUSH THEM, 'CAUSE WE'RE THE STAR SANSES!!" He places his hands on his hips and grins.
"Yeah! Let's go!" I cheer, placing my hand in the air in front of me. Sans puts his hand on mine, followed by Ink, and then Dream.
"1..."
"2..."
"3..."
"STAR SANSES!!"
Ink paints a portal on the ground, and we all jump in.
