Chapter 4~ Unexpected Saviour
It was quarter to seven in the evening.
The house was quiet as I slid into my white cocktail dress for the night which exposed most of my thighs, and slipped on my expensive matching white heels.
The dress was similar to Stacey's in that it was almost backless, except mine had random slits down the front giving a hip and somewhat stylish 'worn' effect as it exposed my bare skin in several places.
It was a nice contrast compared to my effortless and elegant heels which had miniature diamonds attached to the straps that glistened even in the dim light.
Slowly, I applied some bright red lipstick as well as heavy eye shadow and mascara, and then sprayed myself with the latest Dior perfume. My hair was stylishly clipped up in some places to create my fringe, but flowed down my back like an almost black curtain. When I was ready I grabbed my matching strappy purse which sparkled and contained my essentials, before sneaking down onto the ground floor.
I could faintly hear my mother laughing with my father and brother in another room, but apart from that there was silence.
When I managed to successfully get through the French doors without being seen, I ran as fast as I could in my heels to Stacey's house (which would've been a blur to the human eye), and threw small pebbles at her window.
A few seconds later she opened it and poked her head out, giving me an excited squeal. Then carefully, she grabbed hold of the sturdy tree branch which was conveniently placed beside her window before slowly climbing down the tree, careful not to ruin her dress.
When she landed I arched my eyebrow at her mockingly. 'Impressive.' I stated.
She gave me a smug grin. 'I've had to get better over the years seeing as, you know, I have you as a friend.' We giggled together before she grabbed my arm and began to pull me in another direction.
'Come on, it's this way,' she said as I let her drag me down the narrow road that led from her house and eventually widened into a country lane.
When we reached the bus stop she was already shivering from the cold and was rubbing her arms thoroughly as the excitement and adrenaline wore off slightly. 'I hope the bus gets here soon.' She said.
As if on cue, the bus came driving around the corner and stopped in front of us.
Quickly, we climbed on and kept to ourselves as the bus dutifully led us into town. About an hour and twenty minutes and several stops later we found ourselves standing outside the nightclub and had to stop ourselves from screaming like raving lunatics.
'Come on!' Stacey practically screamed as she dragged us into the long queue where we waited for about half an hour until we got to the front.
My heart was thumping loudly in my chest when we showed the body guard our ID's, and my heart nearly stopped when he paused to scrutinise us both carefully. After what seemed like an eternity he finally let us through and we entered the hippest club in town which is a moment I would never forget.
Once we got inside I was immediately taken aback at the sight. Everywhere around us lights flashed and bodies were grinding against each other as the heavy bass track filled the room and reverberated against the walls.
'Whoa..!' I heard Stacey scream as we both struggled to take in our surroundings. Awestruck, I was able to do nothing but give her a nod in return.
Suddenly, before I realised what was happening, Stacey tugged on my arm and dragged me so that we were stood in the centre of the dance floor. We were surrounded by sweaty bodies and my ears were filled with the sound of hearts pounding, an endless rhythm that was faster than the beat of the track itself, but was nonetheless music to my ears.
I watched the twisting and writhing bodies carefully before deciding to swing my hips to match the rhythm of theirs. Stacey soon caught on and pulled me close to her so that I was squashed tightly against her pelvis. Together we moved.
'Woo!' Stacey shrieked loud enough for me to hear above the music and I laughed in return, filled only with giddy joy. Relaxing, I quickly let myself feel the heavy rhythm and swung my hair to each side wildly - not caring that it fell loose; the dark curtain shielding my vision momentarily each time.
Stacey followed suit and before long, we'd attracted a small crowd of boys a few years older than us who were dancing just a few feet away. One of them who'd kept their eye on Stacey the entire time tried to get behind her, but she shrugged them off and I had to stop myself from giggling.
'Let's show them what we're made of!' I heard her yell and responded in kind by grinding my hips relentlessly against hers. 'Oh yeah!' She shrieked happily as the track changed to an even heavier one and I turned until I was facing her, wrapping my hands tightly around her shoulders.
She did the same, and soon we danced with our hips even closer together and our hair swishing in all directions.
As the night went on the music continued to pound and we went to get drinks, continuing to do so until we were almost lightheaded with dizziness.
Only wobbling slightly, much later I dragged Stacey back onto the dance floor and dropped my body against hers before getting up seductively. As I did so a few more looked our way, but tonight was about the two of us so I didn't pay them any attention.
When Katy Perry's song, 'Last Friday Night' came on there was an echoing cheer from the crowd and everyone got down. I swirled and danced with Stacey and also solo, pushing off any male who came within a foot radius almost immediately.
Once Stacey told me she was going to get another drink, I nodded and carried on dancing. I was having the time of my life until I noticed someone distinctive looking at me from the bar area. I stared at them, noticing they looked a lot like Carlos, and momentarily lost my focus.
They stared back undisturbed and I soon looked away when the world began to tilt slightly.
Looking over again, I saw them sitting until someone walked past them, shielding my view. When I looked back again I realised they were gone and began to feel a sudden rush of glee as I started to throw my hips around.
In my drunken state I was pleased that it was a possibility Carlos was here, because it meant that I had a chance to get him back after what I'd seen with him and Eva.
This time, when another handsome man danced up to me and grabbed my waist from behind, I didn't push them away and let them grind themselves against me. I could feel their hot breath against the back of my neck and hear their pulse soar as they touched my soft skin through the rips of my dress.
When I thought of Carlos again, I quickly dropped against him and slowly got back up, earning a few cheers from his friends who stood on the sides.
'What's your name?' He asked against my ear as I continued to grind myself against his taut; muscular body.
'Indigo!' I yelled to make him hear me above the music.
'Zayne.' He said back and turned me around so that I could face him. I was mildly surprised to see that his handsome face looked even better up close and inwardly gushed to myself as I noticed that he had a slight smattering of freckles on his nose as I eyed him closely.
'Do you want to get a drink?' He asked as we continued to dance.
I shook my head and thought about leaving it at that as I pulled away from him, but as soon as I looked over to the bar again and saw the Carlos look-alike, images of him pressed up against Eva with a hand under her dress began to flash through my mind.
Smiling evilly at the Carlos look-alike who was staring at me with some sort of determination, I smashed my lips against Zayne's which caused him to freeze briefly before he deepened the kiss and tangled his fingers in my hair.
Sighing in satisfaction, I let him snake his arms around me and squeeze my hips closer to him through my thin dress, before breathing out again.
When I still saw the same look-alike staring at us I immediately pulled back again and seductively arched my back perfectly until my hair was nearly touching the floor and my hips were pressed firmly against his.
Zayne let out a strangled sigh of which my sensitive ears immediately picked up and leant forward to kiss my neck. I got up slowly and let him do as he pleased as he kissed and sucked at the delicate skin until I began to feel a tingle down south.
It was then that I got a whiff of his pheromones.* Vampire. I couldn't believe that I hadn't noticed before.
When I looked for a final time, I nearly let out a triumphant giggle as I saw that the stranger did indeed look exactly like Carlos, and only then did I slowly pull away from Zayne, but this time it was more reluctantly.
The vampire looked slightly disappointed and even asked for my phone number but I politely declined and sauntered over triumphantly to the bar area - this time to where Stacey sat. She grinned as I came over and we sat together and danced for another couple of hours until we finally decided to leave.
When we stumbled out of the entrance laughing hysterically at nothing in particular, we wobbled down the pavement and listened to the sounds of the distant cars in the night.
We were drunk meaning we decided for some reason to take a short cut along an alley to get the bus home, and didn't realise our mistake until four men in hoodies began sauntering casually towards us.
Panicking, we halted to an abrupt stop as one of them wolf whistled and began to eye up our bare thighs greedily. I straightened my shoulders and glared at them head on when the leader who was wearing a grey hoodie spoke up. 'Well, look what we have here boys. Lost, ladies?'
One of them snickered nastily.
I was drunk, but not so drunk that I didn't snap to my senses and push Stacey behind me protectively. 'Stay away from us.' I hissed.
They all burst into laughter. The leader spoke up again. 'And what are you going to do, shorty?' Being five foot seven I wasn't exactly small, but in comparison to the men who surrounded us I was a flea.
We would've been screwed if it weren't for the fact that I was a vampire. 'I said,' glaring at the man in front. 'Stay away!' I snarled so viciously that one of the men backed away but the rest snickered again, their ugly laughter sending a tingle down my spine.
Slowly they kept on coming until we were backed up against the wall. Looking around, I was careful not to take my eyes of any of them knowing that if I did, we could both be killed.
The leader in the grey kept on coming and leaned forward so that I could feel his hot, rancid breath touch my cool cheek. Behind me, Stacey whimpered uselessly and my heart shattered as I realised that I'd failed to protect her.
'I'm warning you,' I hissed quietly. He didn't even look a bit scared - not that I could blame him. I wouldn't be either if I didn't know I was a vampire. 'Stay away.' I would be damned if I'd let them get away with harming me or Stacey; I was a vampire after all.
The leader's eyes darkened dangerously as he leaned even closer. 'Don't threaten me, sweetheart.' He whispered huskily as his breath came in heavy pants.
My body was so taut that it would snap in half if I didn't move, and when he touched my cheek I was so swift that when I smashed my fist into his jaw I heard a distinct 'crack.'
Everything happened so quickly and suddenly they were all rushing towards us at once as Stacey screamed for her life. I lashed out at the second one who tried to tackle me to the floor, kicking another in the shin that sent him momentarily dropping to the floor.
Stacey cowered against the wall and screamed my name when the largest grabbed hold of her tiny body and crushed it with his iron grip. I whirled. 'Don't touch her!' I screeched, but the distraction was enough to knock me off balance as the leader who had recovered along with another grabbed hold of me, one of them punching me so hard that I was sent sprawling to the floor.
If that wasn't enough then the one in the grey sent a hard kick to my head which caused the world to swim.
'Indigo!' Stacey screamed and tried to writhe herself free so that she could get to me. Stars clouded my vision and I struggled to move. 'Indigo!' She tried again but was slapped so hard that the sound resonated in my ears. Immediately she went silent.
Feeling a sudden rush of rage, I was about to get up when someone punched me again and sent a rib-cracking blow to my gut. It was too fast for me for me to react to, and I screeched like a wounded animal as I fell to the floor, tears springing to my eyes.
Despite being caught in an iron- grip Stacey screamed my name again as blood ran from her nose, and I whimpered in pain and defeat.
Before I could be pulled to my feet, I heard the sound of ribs cracking as one of the men was thrown roughly against the wall and they wailed like a banshee before going still as their neck was snapped so viciously that their head was left at an odd angle.
From the corner of my eye I could see two men rushing towards the tall, dark figure that had killed the attacker and both immediately flew backwards until they went crashing into the wall opposite.
The final one pushed Stacey roughly to the floor as they tried to tackle the figure, but the figure was too fast and soon the sound of bones being crushed filled my ears, followed by flesh being ripped and torn as their heart was pulled straight from their chest.
Stacey, who was more alert than I, let out a blood-curdling scream as she was lifted up against her will. Too weak to do anything more than lift up my head, I let out a small whimper before feeling myself being gently pulled up into strong arms.
I had time to hear a few soothing whispers before everything went black.
