Chapter 16 - It All Gets Ruined
When the limo parked in the long driveway I was puzzled to see a sleek pink sports car parked haphazardly near the front steps.
There was an uncomfortable silence as I tried to think who the owner of the car could be and coming up with nothing, and as if sensing some sort of disaster ahead, Stacey tactfully decided to wait in the limo for me to go inside and "check" if everything was alright. Her words.
I knew that I should've been slightly annoyed by that statement, but we both knew all too well of Adrian's previous playboy reputation and even I knew that perhaps it would take a lot more than marrying me to end it.
Clenching my jaw and biting down a reply, I nodded at her and told her to wait there.
Since I had a key to the house, I'd made it crystal clear before I left that I could let myself in and that's exactly what I did.
Hesitantly, I swung the door open and was greeted with the usual empty quietness of the house. It seemed that everyone who worked here had either gone home or up to their rooms and careful not to disturb the peace, I softly shut the door behind me and crept towards the kitchen.
There was no one in sight.
I was about to creep upstairs to my room (and possibly Adrian's) when I heard a small sound coming from Adrian's study.
Swiftly, I stalked down the hallway and stopped when I was a few feet away from the study's door which was slightly ajar.
'You know I want you and I've been waiting a long time for this...'
The voice was unmistakably feminine and was like music to my ears, much to my regret. Whoever it belonged to must've been attractive - the way they spoke with such confidence and seduction suggested so much.
Leaning much closer, I saw the back half of Adrian who was looking slightly flustered as a well-manicured hand ran slowly up and down his chest.
Something twisted sharply in my stomach at the sight, which increased as I noticed that he was doing very little to pull away from it. I almost revealed myself right then and there to break them up but held myself back.
'What's the matter, baby?' The hand paused. 'You OK?'
Adrian sighed. 'Ashley...'
Ashley.
My fists clenched as I remembered the caller display on Blondie's phone and of her warning telling me to back off. So Ashley was my competition, I thought to myself.
Ashley the bitch.
It had a nice ring to it.
My heart thumped wildly as the slender female figure, wearing nothing but a lacy black bra, almost straddled him with her closeness 'Come on,' she cooed. 'Do this for me.'
Ugh.
When she kissed first his chest and then his lips it was like the world shattered and my vision narrowed until all I could see was their lips which were in contact.
Heart thudding, I watched as Adrian didn't protest and without warning, he slammed her against the desk leaving a dent and kneaded the red head's breasts gently through the fabric of her bra.
She let out small gasps and moans which reminded me of a baby kitten, and clenched her legs tightly around his waist.
I watched, feeling repulsed as he lowered his face to her breasts and unclasped her bra before doing the unthinkable.
His lips touched her bare skin and as he took her in his mouth I was fuming.
The phrase "seeing red" didn't even come close to what I was feeling. Heck, I was this dick's soulmate and was supposed to marry him in less than three months and here he was suckling on another girl's breasts.
The fucking nerve.
I couldn't take it anymore when he began to trace his hand lower and lower until he was rubbing and kneading her core, and kicked the door open.
They both jumped startled, and the look on Adrian's face would no doubt haunt me for many nights to come.
Never had I known someone could hold so much guilt in one expression.
The fiery red-head on the other hand looked positively outraged. Her green eyes burned with a heat containing a quickly fading lust, and something else - disgust.
'How long have you been watching us?' She spat out.
I felt like I'd been slapped.
True, if that were me I'd be just as mad as she was if not more at the possibility of a peeping Tom and I suddenly felt sick and disgusted with myself for having stood in the doorway for so long. Never mind the fact that I wouldn't be with someone else's man in the first place.
'I...' My mouth quickly snapped shut as I thought of nothing but of Adrian's betrayal and momentarily stopped breathing.
First Carlos, and now Adrian.
I was no wuss but seriously I didn't know how much more I could take.
Looking only at Adrian I told him that I was leaving - feeling too tired to be angry - before scrambling to get as far away from the crime scene as possible.
After what I'd just witnessed, I desperately wanted to bleach my eyes or perhaps just gouge them out but sadly neither was possible.
I was immensely grateful when Adrian didn't follow me, probably so that he could finish what he started in peace, I thought bitterly, before pulling out a medium sized suitcase from under my bed and hurriedly packing my essentials.
Being a vampire meant I was finished in no time, and I only felt a tiny bit of remorse as I left behind several things that I would no doubt be unable to take with me.
Using all my strength, I carried my suitcase down the stairs and quickly dragged it towards the limo before Adrian could snap to his senses and chase after me.
When I shoved it into the boot, Stacey just looked at me in quiet understanding as I demanded the driver to drive back to her's.
Not wanting to risk my parents knowing where I was, I gave Stacey my key and told her to get my stash of money out from my bedroom as well as my credit cards which I was going to ask her to bring over at a later date, and she did as I asked.
An hour later she came back with the items before looking at me in concern. 'Where are you going now?'
I was still sat in the limo with the window wound down so that we could talk.
Giving her a pained smile I told her that I was going to find somewhere quiet to stay and made her promise not to tell her parents or mine about any of this.
She bit her lip looking at me thoughtfully. 'Let me come with you.' She finally said. 'I want to make sure you'll be safe.'
I patted her hand. 'I'm a vampire, Stacey. I'll be fine trust me.'
'But where will you go?' She blurted out again before she could stop herself and bit her lip with a frustrated expression. 'Please just let me come with you.' She pleaded.
I shook my head. 'I'll call you to let you know I'm safe when I can find a decent hotel. I'll be fine and remember--'
'Don't tell anyone where you are or where you're going.' She cut in for me looking very much fearful. And pissed.
I sighed. 'I'll be fine.'
She didn't say anything before pulling me in for a long hug as best she could through the open window and wiped my tears away when she pulled back. 'I'm so sorry, Ind.'
I shook my head again. 'You have nothing to be sorry for.' I smiled at her before my voice could break. 'Now go.'
She reluctantly went back into her house and the minute her door was shut I instructed the driver to take me to the nearest city which happened to be thirty miles away.
Perfect.
Thankfully, he didn't ask any questions and just gave me a curt nod when I ordered him not to speak of any of this to his boss. I could only hope he would listen.
We drove for nearly an hour until it was nearing sunset and when I entered the classy four star hotel which was situated in the city centre, I'd never been more glad for having money and a lot of it.
The fees were extortionate but I could easily afford to stay in the same hotel room for a few weeks which was what I was planning to do, before I moved on to somewhere else.
As the receptionist handed me the key to my room, I slowly made my way up to the third floor and opened the door to my room to see a large; plush king-sized bed with red sheets centre the room.
Never had I seen such a welcome sight and I abruptly lay face down on the mattress as the tears of betrayal leaked across my cheeks.
Too many times had my heart been shattered when I should've had my guard up and there was no way that I was going to let it become shattered again.
The only way I could prevent that from happening is if neither Adrian nor Carlos could ever find me, and if that meant leaving home prematurely then that was what I would do to keep myself safe.
Sighing, I turned over a faced the ceiling. It was time to look for a future living amongst the humans.
Uh-oh. Not even I knew it would come to this. How do you think she will cope? And most importantly: how long until someone finds her?
