~~
True to what you told Hajime, you did sleep that night, for longer than usual.
Like always, the light shone through your semi open blinds, waking you up easily as you stretched your barely sore arms. You rubbed you eye before turning to the clock, showing that you woke up with a good chunk of time before the breakfast meeting. You discarded your bed covers and got up to get dressed.
Just as you finished getting ready for the day, you could hear faint commotion outside your cabin. Not directly outside, but still outside.
Peeking out from the blinds on your cabin, you saw two figures arguing outside.
"It's... Hajime and Fuyuhiko..." You thought, sourly. "What bullshit is Fuyuhiko starting this early in the morning with Hajime?"
You heard Fuyuhiko angrily yell at Hajime to leave him alone, something about 'going back to his cottage'.
"But, wouldn't that imply that he's already left his cottage...?"
Fuyuhiko turned, but something Hajime said made him stop. His stop made you notice one thing; a manilla envelope Fuyuhiko held in his hand.
Fuyuhiko turned around angrily, his expression becoming almost murderous, fists clenching and his face becoming red. While the conversation was far away from you, Fuyuhiko was loud enough so that you could barely hear him, "you gonna' tie me up like Nagito!?" he said.
Like Nagito, your lucky streak must've run out, because Fuyuhiko looked over and managed ti find you peeking out of your window. Embarrassed, you quickly closed your blinds and leaned away from the window.
"Huh, now look at that, your little fuck buddy managed to hear us." Fuyuhiko spat. "Do you feel good about yourself? Or, was that your guys' plan all along? Make me this fucking annoyed so early! God!!" Fuyuhiko kept yelling.
"...Fuck buddy?"
"Stay the hell away from me today, Hajime. I don't want to see you or her at all today, you get that? If I see either one of you, I'll fucking murder your asses." He growled, before you (faintly) heard steps walking away.
"...Who the heck is my 'fuck buddy'..."
You stifled a chuckle, deciding maybe this would be a good time to exit and meet Hajime outside.
Carefully stepping outside your cottage and closing the door behind you, you walked up to Hajime, seeing his expression lighten at the sight of you.
"(F/N), good morning." He smiled, shyly putting his hands in his pockets.
"'Morning, Hajime." You took a small breathe, choosing your next words carefully. "So... Fuyuhiko..."
"...Huh?" Hajime questioned, before it looked like a lightbulb went off in his brain. "O-Oh! Th-That, well-" Hajime's face was a light pink as he kept stammering trying to think of an excuse for something.
Well, until it occurred to you too.
"Oh, I'm not worried about the whole...fuck buddy thing...!" You said. "Th-That's not- what I'm really wondering about was, uhm, uh, the..." You snapped your fingers in concentration, "the, the, the... the envelope! Yeah, the envelope he had! You saw it too, right?" You asked, trying to redirect your conversation away from both your embarrassing thoughts.
"Y-Yeah, I did..." He stuttered
"You have any idea what it's from?"
Hajime hesitated for a moment, before emitting a small response.
"...No, I don't think I do." He looked at you. "Do you have any ideas?"
"He's lying again, Fuyuhiko probably played the video game."
"No, I don't either."
"Wow, good for you (F/N). You're a liar too."
"'Wanna get on our way to the hotel restaurant?" You offered, as a minor distraction from your thoughts. Hajime agreed, and you both made your way to the hotel restaurant.
It was silent, but not so much an awkward silence, it was more comfortable.
"Hajime, (F/N), nice timing!" The familiar voice of Mahiru rung out as soon as you and Hajime stepped inside. "I've been waiting for anybody to come by at a time like this."
"Waiting, huh?" Hajime mused curiously.
"Um, I was thinking about delivering this..." Mahiru mumbled.
"Is... this someone's breakfast?" Hajime asked, as the cogs clicked in your brain.
"Oh, it's for Nagito, isn't it?" You asked.
"Yeah, I mean, if we just leave him all tied up, he's gonna starve..." Mahiru chuckled humorlessly. "Like...how long are they planning to continue this?"
"Well, there's no way we can keep him tied up forever..." Hajime stated.
"...Yeah, that's what I thought at first. But maybe it's better if he was tied up forever." Mahiru mindlessly stated.
"...You aren't serious, right." You asked.
"Well, I actually went to see Nagito this morning. I *kindly* brought him breakfast..." Mahiru started. "And then, listen to this! He seriously pisses me off! He said he doesn't like rice so he wanted toast instead! Doesn't he understand the situation he's in right now!?" She exclaimed exasperatedly.
"So that's why you're running back and forth... That must be hard for you." Hajime said, sympathy filled in his voice.
"'Hard'? Do you really thing so?" Mahiru asked, fake enthusiasm dripping out of her mouth. You looked over to Hajime, seeing his face become confused and slightly scared at the photographer.
"Then bring this to Nagito on my behalf!"
You stifled a giggle as Hajime made a noise of confusion.
"I was forced to run back and forth too many times... I'm done being his maid." Mahiru stated. "And not only that... I just remembered that I have a little business to take care of."
Hajime questioned what 'business' was, but the response he got was Mahiru shoving the plate of toast and milk in his arms, leaving before saying "I'll leave the rest to you."
Hajime sighed, and you couldn't contain your giggle this time. "If you don't want to do it, I can. I don't mind seeing Nagito." You offered, and Hajime made a noise of discontent.
"No way am I letting you go alone..." he mumbled, "but, do you mind coming with me...? I'd feel better if you were there."
You tenderly smiled at him. "Of course I'll come with you."
Hajime smiled back, and the both of you descended down the stairs, leaving the hotel restaurant to go to the building next to the hotel.
As you and Hajime stood a few feet in front of the stairs, he abruptly stopped, his grip on the metal food tray getting tighter. You turned back, asking him what was wrong. His mouth gaped.
"Uh... I don't know if I'm well enough to see Nagito just yet..." He whispered, shamefully. First, he needed you to get to the building to give Nagito his food, and now he can't even do that.
He looked up from his hard stare at the ground when he felt your warm hands barely touch yours. He saw your closed eye smile, and could feel himself get lightly warm.
"Don't worry, I can give Nagito his food." You told him, and he immediately grew panicked.
You saw the panic once it rose to his face. "Don't worry, I can handle him. Plus, he's tied up, I don't think he'll be able to do much to me." You reassured. "Seriously. I promise I won't be long. You don't have to wait for me, go enjoy your day, Hajime."
With that, you smiled once more before taking the food tray and walking inside the old building.
You shivered upon entry of the old building.
The last time you entered this building, Byakuya was still alive.
Your shoes lightly thumped against the wooden floor as you made your way to the dining hall. You hesitated in front of the door, all the memories coming back.
As you balanced the tray of food in one hand, the other about to push open the door, something stopped you.
Not something, but... someone.
"No no no! This old building is being renovated. You can't go inside!" The squeaky voice of Monomi exclaimed, as she popped up in front of you.
"But... I'm here to feed Nagito? Unless you don't know he's in here too..." You muttered.
"Ha-Wa? You know about it too, (Y/N)?!" Monomi exclaimed. Her eyes began to softly fill with tears. "C-Cuz... Nekomaru and Kazuichi earnestly told me that 'Monomi's the only one we can rely on'..." She sniffed. "And... it's true that Nagito needs to reflect on his actions..."
You softly sighed. "I agree that he needs to think about what he did, but I'm here to deliver his food. If he dies from starvation, it technically counts as a death, right?"
Monomi started to panic at the words 'murder' and 'starve'.
"Is it okay if I go in and give him his food? I'll be quick, I promise."
"Y-Yes! Make sure you tell him to chew thoroughly before he swallows!" Monomi lectured you, and you giggled.
"You got it".
With that, the dual colored rabbit disappeared, leaving you in front of the door once again.
"Why are you so nervous? It's just Nagito.'
"That's the issue, that's it's just Nagito. He attempted to murder and then led another to murder barely days ago."
"It's just the same boy that was friendly to you that first day on the beach, he wouldn't hurt you."
"If he's not going to hurt you, he may hurt others. Don't take that chance and just leave with the food while you can!"
"God, just shut the fuck up!!" You yelled to yourself, before harshly opening the dining hall doors.
What you saw on the other side slightly appalled you.
Nagito, bound by chain and rope was lying defenselessly on the opposite side of the dining hall. At your arrival, it seemed as if his eyes gleamed and he had a large smile. You light gasped.
"Ah... is that really you, (Y/N)?" His raspy voice called out, "I can't believe you'd take time out of your busy day to bring some food to little old me..." He laughed, "I shouldn't be surprised that'd it'd be you, of all people. Your kind and caring nature makes you the perfect candidate to do so. Wow, I'm so happy!"
His words got you out of your frozen stance, as you took careful steps towards him. "Oh trust me, my day isn't busy at all."
Nagito chuckled. "As you can see, I can't exactly greet you with my full hospitality...but feel free to relax."
You stood in front of him now, his eyes raking over your domineering figure; you set the metal tray down, reverting his attention.
"I'm here to feed you. I don't really plan on relaxing long in this...room." You shivered.
"Ah, I know your kindness for me would run out eventually..." the boy mused, "even you would get tired of me."
"Oh shut it, I just don't like this room." You countered. You then looked at him, still splayed on the ground. "Well, if I'm gonna' feed you I need you to sit up. C'mon, sit on your knees."
Surprisingly, Nagito obliged (quite quickly at that), sitting up on his knees while you grabbed the plate of toast.
"I must admit," Nagito started, as your eyes wandered to him, "I do feel a bit embarrassed that I'm having a girl feed me..."
"Well I was going to come here with Hajime before he decided that maybe I'm more suit to come and feed you than him." You told him.
Technically, you weren't lying. If Hajime got too fed up with Nagito, he'd probably leave the food tray right in front of the restrained boy and tell him to eat it on his own.
But then Nagito would start pleading teasingly, knowing Hajime would crack, and Hajime, feeling guilty and almost sympathetic, would go back to help.
The thought of Hajime doing that is almost enough to make you smile.
"Hm, what's that sweet look on your face for (F/N)?" Nagito purred. You stiffened.
Crap, maybe you did smile.
"Nothing, c'mere." You dismissed, holding the toast out for him to take a bite, which he did. "Monomi told me to make sure you chew thoroughly so that way you don't, y'know, choke and die."
Nagito chuckled. "If I were to choke and die, you'd probably be the main suspect for my death. You would've been the only one here when I died, so that means you'd be the only one capable of moving forward with my demise..." Nagito thought aloud, making you cringe.
"Oh, what a hopeful thing it is to think of me helping you with your steps of greatness, (F/N)! Isn't it amazing? The two of us working together so you can become the greatest you can be?"
"It's not; now stop fantasizing about it and drink." You scolded. "Plus, I wouldn't get framed for your death. Hajime has my account; he knows that I came here with the task of feeding you, and he also knows I'm not stupid enough to actually go through with carrying out a murder." You told the white haired boy.
"Are you sure? Are you sure he wouldn't turn on you in your moment of need?" Nagito spurred on.
"Nagito." You started, sternly. "I am not in the mood for these mind games right now, hear me? You are not going to choke to death, I am not going to be framed for your murder, Hajime would not turn on me... Got it?"
Honestly, you were telling yourself that list bit more than Nagito.
Nagito hummed. "Alright, (Y/N)... but thinking back, what happened to Mahiru? Did she leave saying she had some business to take care of?"
Your movements mildly halted. "Yeah... Did she say something like that to you too?"
"I also heard about the new motive... Twilight Syndrome Murder case, right?" Nagito mused, and you stiffened completely. "I have mixed feelings... I really liked that game a lot."
"C-Cool for you, I guess, but what did Mahiru say to yo-"
"Oh well, safe to say I'm a little disappointed. It's not like you Ultimates to ignore the threat that's standing right in front of you." Nagito mused. "...Are you really planning not to play that game? Do you really think Monokuma will just let that slide?"
"If nobody plays that game, nobody will seek vengeance or reason to kill. Not like someone hasn't already played it." You muttered. "Nobody plays it; nobody dies."
"Aww, but you guys should confront it...! After all, hope springs up when you all confront despair."
"God, he's right but I don't want to admit it."
"Hm? (F/N)?"
"...You got a little something there." You told, eyes unmoving.
"...What?"
"You got something there." You giggled. You reached up and used your jacket sleeve to lightly brush away a few loose crumbs on Nagito's chin; the boy's eyes were widened.
"Aaaand... it's gone now." You smiled at the boys wanderlust expression. "Are you still hungry or anything?"
"...No, I wouldn't want you to do more work for me." Nagito chuckled bashfully. You rolled your eyes.
"I volunteered for it Nagito; you aren't burdening me." You told. "But, if you aren't hungry anymore...'mind if I stay here and spend some time with you?"
"...You, an amazing ultimate, would really subject yourself to taking the time out of your day to spend it with pathetic old me? Have I been blessed by the Goddess that is you?" Nagito thought aloud. You laughed.
"'Course I would; It must get lonely being stuck here... And I kind of feel like just talking, if that's okay with you."
Nagito warmly smiled. "There's nothing else I'd enjoy doing more."
You smiled back, settling next to him rather than in front of him.
"...If you have any questions, I'd be ready to answer them."
Nagito's eyes glazed over with something...unknown.
"I do have a few I'd like to ask you."
—
An hour or two later, Nagito was contempt.
"Thank you for taking the time out of your day to talk to me, I truly don't deserve it..."
"Oh shush," You shut him down, "it was no bother; you're nice to talk to...when you're not all about hope, anyway."
Nagito smiled warmly at you.
"Well, I should get going now Nagito...I can come check on later, if you'd like?" You offered.
"Oh no, I would loathe to inconvenience you more than I have. You should be enjoying your time on this island to the best of your abilities!" Nagito told.
"It's not an inconvenience if I'm offering." You sternly stated.
Nagito flushed pink, before putting on a bashful and small smile. "Then... could you come back before the nighttime announcement?"
You smiled back. "You got it. I'll be leaving now."
The two of you bid your goodbyes, and you peacefully stepped out.
You didn't expect the first thing you heard to be a loud and gleeful call of your name.
You turned your head to the voice. "Oh, hey Sonia!"
The blonde princess ran towards you happily. "(Y/N)!! I've been looking for you everywhere!" She confessed.
"Oh? Why is that?" You asked.
"So we can spend time together! Of course!" She stated, before turning sheepish, "i-if you're okay with it, o-of course..."
You smiled at her. "Of course I'm okay with it Sonia, what'd you have in mind?"
The princess beamed. "Oh, I'm so glad! Would you be okay with browsing the library with me?"
"With you, I'd be happy with anything." You winked playfully. Sonia's smile only grew.
"Let's go let's go!" Sonia cheered, dragging you (softly) by the arm.
The day was beautiful and warm, and the breeze was just enough that there wasn't a contrasting chill. You could even smell the ocean from where the two of you were. It was a perfect day...
If you weren't trapped on an island forced to kill your classmates.
"Do you enjoy reading, Sonia?" You asked the girl, opting to make conversation. She nodded rapidly.
"I do! There is not much more I enjoy than spending my free time reading a good book." Sonia told you. "The way writers brains work are fascinating to me; they are so creative! Watching a story unfold on pieces of paper is so truly magical to me. I love imagining and envisioning all the characters, the setting, everything!"
"It seems like you enjoy the simpler things in life." You commented. Sonia nodded again.
"In Novoselic, I was always stuck to a schedule. Wake up at 6:30 in the morning, be ready by 7. At 7, eat breakfast with mother and father until 7:45, and spend the next 15 minutes talking about my future reign. Then, I would take my daily classes. Fencing, politics, royal mannerisms, ballroom dancing, ballroom etiquette. I'd then eat a simple lunch, and then get back to those classes. I'd start getting ready for bed at about 8:30, and then was scheduled to sleep at 9:15." Sonia explained. Your eyes widened.
"Oh lord." You chuckled. "You must be very patient in order to keep to that schedule, I know I would break it in a matter of seconds."
Sonia giggled. "It's in fact why I enjoy the smaller things in life, such as reading! I can find myself enjoying all genres of book if I have the free time for it...which now, I do!" She smiled.
"Might I take a guess at your favorite genre is?" You asked her. She turned towards you, eyes sparkling.
"Please do!"
"Murder novels of any type."
Sonia gasped. "You're right! How did you know, (Y/N)?!"
"I'll just say a lucky guess with some deduction." You chuckled.
"You're quite observant (Y/N)! We're very lucky to have someone like you." Sonia complimented.
You smiled. "Thank you, Sonia." You looked up. "We're here."
Sonia looked up and smiled, pulling you inside excitedly. You stumbled as she dragged you.
"Oh, I just get so energized being inside libraries!" Sonia squealed euphorically. "Don't you feel the same way, (Y/N)?"
"Honestly? I didn't read much when I was younger...or now." You admitted sheepishly.
"Oh well that simply won't do!" Sonia proclaimed, before grabbing you wrist once again and tugging you into the multitude of bookshelves. "Now then, I'll be giving you all of my personal favorites so you can read them."
"And how many would that be?"
"Thirteen!"
"THIRTEEN!?"
"And I'll give you some more I love so you can expand your literary horizons!"
"This girl is gonna' be the end of me I swear-"
"W-Will it all be horror...?" You asked the princess nervously. "Horror's great and all, but I don't think I can read thirteen-plus books about it..."
"Not to worry! Horror may be my favorite but I enjoy multitudes of books from other genres." Sonia told you happily, as she swiftly pulled out a book from one of the shelves—when did she already get a stack of 4 books while the two of you were talking!?
"This one, for example! One of my favorite romance books." The blonde sighed euphorically while gazing at the hard cover in delight. "Between Two Stone Fountains and a Cherry Bush is set in medieval Europe, where a princess finds herself in love with one of her maids. It follows them together with chapters switching points of views every chapter so you can simultaneously follow both of their thoughts on each other and how their relationship will come to be. It's an homage to the forbidden love trope, considering the time it's set in, and the difference in classes and work they're in. It's one of my favorites!" Sonia squealed as she enthusiastically set it at the very top of the book stack.
"One day I hope to find a love as pure as Amarah and Lucie!"
"Oh you definitely will, Sonia. I mean, look at you." You gestured towards her with your hand, as she tilted her head at you.
"Look at me?" She repeated.
"Yes! I mean, you're literally gorgeous, your personality is like a breath of fresh air in the spring, and not to mention you are a literal princess. It would be easier for someone to fall in love with you than it would be to actually kill someone." You told her, chuckling to yourself as you finished your statement.
You heard something hit the ground with a *thump* (more like multiple things hit the ground with a *thump*).
Confusedly, you looked towards the blonde, seeing her...frozen.
Her arms were bent at a ninety-degree angle at her side, her wrists flat in order to carry the books.
Said books were what was now on the floor.
Her face was a shade of pink, akin to cherry blossoms on her pale créame skin. Her eyes were wide and dilating, and her petite mouth was agape.
You tilted your head at her, "What?"
It seemed at the sound of your voice, Sonia snapped out of her small daze, although the sparkle in her eyes didn't leave.
"Do...Do you really think someone could love me like you say...?" Sonia asked, voice gentle as a breeze. "...Do you really think all those things about me as well, (Y/N)...?"
You shrugged. "I do. If I didn't mean it, or believe what I said, I wouldn't've said it." You told the princess truthfully. "I don't say things I don't mean, that's not how I roll."
Sonia inaudibly gasped, her hands clutching at her chest. She began lightly shaking, and you feared you done something to upset her. Your expression turned worried.
"S-Sonia...? A-Are you okay? D-Did I do something wro-"
You were swiftly stopped by the girl running and embracing you in an abrupt hug. You made a soft sound of surprise, which, in return, made Sonia tighten her arms.
"S-Sonia?" You squeaked.
"Thank you for saying all those things about me (Y/N)..." Sonia whispered in your ear. You chuckled.
"Of course... All I said is true. At least, in my opinion." You smiled to her, and she gave a bright one back.
Sonia stepped back and bent down, picking up the rest of the books she dropped in her arms.
"Now, back to the books!"
—
Sonia spent the entire rest of the morning recommending (physically giving you) books to read, and you started reading the one she was most passionate about— Between Two Stone Fountains and a Cherry Bush. Sonia also managed to find a scrap piece of paper and pencil to write down all the names of the other books.
"Even her handwriting is beautiful, what the hell?"
You walked back to the hotel, reading the list of books Sonia gave you. In hindsight, not a very smart decision. Reading while walking, that is.
"The Bidding, Abbey, 16 Mirrors, Matilda, Blue Light, Aphasia, Red Moon, Holy Ghost, Valley of the Dolls... Sonia has a particular taste in books, huh?"
Another not-so-smart decision you made was thinking back to what Sonia told you before you decided to take your leave.
While walking.
"By the way, (Y/N)! I'm planning on have a little meetup for just the girls on the island! It's tomorrow at the beach-house on the second island! It'll be around 4 in the afternoon...I do hope you'll come!"
"Of course I'll come, Sonia. I'll see you tomorrow then!"
Like I said, walking while both reading and while being in your head isn't a good choice, especially when you accidentally collide with another body.
You stumble backwards, immediately going to put your hands in front of you, opening your mouth to ready an apology, but said person in front of you beat you to it.
"I-I'm sorry!"
"That voice sounds really familiar..."
"Of course it's going to be familiar, there's only 14 other people on this island, and you know them all."
You looked up, seeing a comforting pair of light green eyes already looking at you worriedly.
"Hajime?"
Said boy stuttered, face heating up. "(Y-Y/N)! I am so-so sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you I just wasn't looking-"
You giggled, waving him off. "Oh, Hajime! I wasn't looking either, in hindsight, I really shouldn't have been walking while reading something..." You chuckled, rubbing the back of your neck. "Let me make it up to you, let me hang out with you...?" You asked, albeit nervously.
"You want to hang out with...me?" Hajime asked, shakily. You nodded enthusiastically.
"Yeah!" But you stopped, upon noticing him being silent. "B-But only if you wan-"
"O-OH! I-I'd really enjoy it!" Hajime interrupted you before you could say something else.
You giggled under your hand, walking towards Hajime and grabbing his wrist, pulling him in the direction of the hotel. The light-brunette babbled in surprise, but you only looked back at him and flashed a smile.
"Is there anything specific you have in mind? If not, we're going to my cabin. Or we could sit by the pool. I'm easy." You told.
"Your cabin sounds nice right now..." Hajime responded, quietly.
"My cabin it is, then!"
One brisk walk and a few minutes later, you were opening your door and welcoming him inside. Hajime walked in, taking in account all of the working equipment you had, all messily splayed out.
"Uh, sorry if my messy tendencies are noticeable..." You chuckled, nervously.
"N-No! I-I'm just admiring the state of your work, actually..." He responded, as you closed the door behind yourself walking in.
You smiled, and walked over to your bed patting the empty space next to yourself, urging him to take said space. He took it, threading his fingers against the sheets.
"So, how've you been? You doin' okay?" You asked him, leaning back against your pillows, peering at Hajime.
"I'm okay. I hung out with Gundham earlier... Man, he weirds me out."
You laughed softly, throwing a pillow you weren't using at the boy, hoping he'd take the hint and lay down next to you.
He did not.
You tilted your head in amusement. "I actually really like Gundham. He might be a little...abnormal, but he has all the best intentions in mind."
Hajime deadpanned at you, placing the pillow behind his head. "You only say that because he has a preference for you." He grumbled, falling back on his side to still face you.
You laughed melodically. "I say that because he's my friend and he's a nice person when you do get him to like you." You took one of the pillows you were on and moved it so you would be next to Hajime. You rolled on your side. "Just like you."
Hajime's eyes widened barely, and his cheeks turned into a love-struck pink. "...Please don't compare me to Gundham. I really do just think he's weird...."
You sighed dramatically, making the boy next to you chuckle. "How are you doing, then? Any reason you were so distracted when I bumped into you?"
You rested your hands behind your head, elbows outward. "I hung out with Sonia at the library, and she gave me an entire list of books she likes...all of which are horror or thriller."
You could see Hajime shiver out of the corner of your eye, making you laugh.
"But I actually started reading her favorite book. It's about this forbidden relationship between a princess and her maid... It's really good. Right now, the princess, Amarah, is noticing how her feelings for one of her main maids, Lucie, are a lot stronger than they should be. Lucie, on the other hand, has been in love with Amarah since they started working for her. Considering this story is placed within mediaeval days, their love is meant to be forbidden, in power difference and in sexual orientation." You told him, as you finally looked back at him to make eye contact. "Pretty cool, no?"
Hajime didn't respond to you for a while, only maintaining said eye contact, softly.
"Hajime's...really handsome up close..."
"Hajime?" You waved a hand in front of him.
"Sonia recommended you that book, huh?" Hajime spoke, but it looked like he was saying it to himself.
"It's a very sweet book so far, I can see why she likes it so much."
"Think...I could read it after?"
Your eyes widened in surprise, and so did Hajime's, as if he didn't anticipate those words coming out of your mouth.
"I-I mean-"
"Damn Hajime, I didn't know you were into romance." You teased, giggling at the boys red face.
"H-Hey!"
You laughed even more, head falling back on your pillow as you heaved a euphoric sigh.
"...Sorry if this is weird, but..." You turned towards Hajime, giving him a small "hm?" to let him know you were paying attention.
"...Do you think you can tell me more about what you do? When I found out more about what you do, I got interested..."
You smiled at him. "Gladly! So it starts out with..."
—
You ended up blabbering to Hajime about your ultimate until right as the sun was making it's daily descent past the horizon. He gladly took up every piece of information right next to you, heads resting on pillows laying sideways on your bed.
Hajime didn't think he could get this much comfort from hearing one person talk so passionately and excitedly about one thing for hours, but he also didn't expect to be stuck on an island with world class Ultimates of the world being forced to kill each other.
The world continues to surprise him.
"This has been really nice, Hajime..." You breathed out, calmly, eyes half lidded with slight exhaustion. "But you should probably get going. The nighttime announcement is gonna' ring soon, and I actually have to meet with someone before then."
Hajime frowned. "Kicking me out, (Y/N)? I thought you liked my company..." He said, although the teasing glint in his eyes made a different point than his facial expression.
You chuckled at the boy, shoving his shoulder lightly with your hand. "Oh shuddup, dork. I just don't want you to get in trouble."
Hajime put his hands up in mock offense, chuckling. "Fine, fine." He muttered, while reaching his hands up above his head in order to stretch his sore arms. He walked to your door.
"I'll see you later (Y/N), alright? Be safe with whoever you're meeting..." He mumbled. "And have sweet dreams."
You giggled, raising your hand to wave him off. "Bye Hajime~"
After hearing your door click close, you flopped your arms at your side.
You were really tired, but you told Nagito you'd visit him before the nighttime announcement, and that was going to be soon.
"No time better than now, I guess."
You heaved yourself off the bed with a small groan, stretching out your arms and back.
You quickly left your cabin and made your way to the abandoned building.
It was almost as if Nagito knew exactly when you were going to arrive, because by the time you opened the large doors he was already sat up.
When he noticed your presence at the door, he gave you a smile. "(Y/N)! I was awaiting your arrival. I'm glad you decided to come."
You nodded, making your way inside the room and kneeling down next to him. "How was your day?"
"Uneventful...not much you can do when you're bound by chain, heh." He told you. "Enough about my pathetic ventures, how was your day~?" The boy purred.
"My day was good. I went to the library to Sonia, and then I hung out with Hajime."
"And how was that?"
"The library was great. Sonia truly is a pure hearted soul."
"Ah, I'd expect nothing less from the Ultimate Princess! And how was Hajime?"
"Hajime was also great. He asked me about the logistics of my own Ultimate, and I gladly told him everything he wanted to know."
"Your ultimate truly is one of the more complicated ones out there, and thus one of the most interesting." Nagito commented. "A wonderful, interesting, hopeful ultimate talent for a wonderful, interesting, hopeful human being."
You shifted, uneasily, but still gave the pale boy a smile. "Thank you, Nagito."
"Would you mind also telling me more about your ultimate? I've always been very intrigued by you." Nagito asked, almost purring.
You pursed your lips. "Maybe another time, okay? The nighttime announcement is going to play soon, and I want to be back in my cabin by then."
"Or are you going to play the video game motive?" Nagito asked, catching you off gaurd. You worriedly turned your head towards him.
"What?"
"Are you anxious to get out of here so you can play the motive? Are you perhaps planning to kill someone?" Nagito asked, an amused smile becoming on his face. "Don't worry, I won't tell your secret~"
"I-I'm not going to play that motive."
"But you're really curious about what it is."
"Hm, that's disappointing," Nagito frowned, "you know I'd gladly help you with carrying out a murder. I'll even help you in the trial so you can leave this island, you know."
"I know. That's what you tried to do." You grumbled. "But I'm not playing the motive."
"Alright." Nagito shrugged his shoulders. "...But will you come next morning to feed me? I do quite like your company, (Y/N)."
"I will, don't worry." You smiled, timidly. You stood up from your crouching position and making your way toward the door. "Bye, Nagito. You see you in the morning."
"Bye (Y/N)~"
You left the abandoned building, your boot soles reverberating against the hollow wood floors.
*Ding dong, bing bong*
"Nighttime announcement time."
"Ahem... Hope's Peak Academy's School Trip Executive Committee has an announcement to make..."
"I've heard this fucking thing a million times already..."
You speedwalked to your cabin, just as the nighttime announcement turned off. You heaved a sigh and shed your jacket, getting ready for bed.
But, like always, sleep didn't come.
You lied awake for at least thirty minutes.
"Why am I still up, I did everything I wanted to do today..."
"Except..."
You turned over onto your stomach, suffocating your face into your pillow.
"I'm not playing that dammed video game."
"You won't rest until you do."
You tugged at your roots.
"Twilight Syndrome Murder Case, huh..."
"...Fuck."
You had enough of thinking for the night.
You're going to go play the motive game.
You threw back your covers and tugged your jacket back over your frame. You stepped into your boots and haphazardly did your laces before pushing your cabin door open and stepping out.
While on your walk, you also saw Chiaki, standing. You meekly approached her.
"Oh, (Y/N), hi." She greeted you, a sweet smile on her face. You waved back. "Where are you going at this hour? The Monokuma Announcement was barely just made..."
"Uhm..." You crossed your arms around your body nervously, wordlessly trying think of an excuse. "I...I just needed some fresh air. I felt...stuffy..."
"Ah, I hope you're alright. Wouldn't want you getting sick, you know." Chiaki told you.
"Thanks Chiaki...you go get some sleep."
"Bye (Y/N)," She waved as you were on your way.
"Oh, by the way..." Chiaki soft voice rung through the quiet night, "Tell me if you see Hajime."
"...Hajime? He's out too?"
"...I will. Night Chiaki."
"Night Night."
You weren't totally lying to her, but she could tell your real intention was to take a walk to the game motive.
The walk was cold, silent, and tense as you mostly kept your eyes on the ground, the crunching grass and stones against your feet and the wind against your ears being the loudest things you could hear.
When you got to the park, the large rotating bomb in your field of vision, you minorly relaxed.
"...Hajime?"
"Hajime?" You called out seeing as a figure in front of the video game motive already. Said figure tensed before turning around.
"...(Y/N)?"
You gave a meek nod before walking towards him, settling yourself next to him in front of the arcade game.
Neither of you were going to acknowledge the fact you mutual lied to each other about not going to play the game, but maybe it was better that way.
The screen was already lit up as you went to stand next to the boy, him being the one whos hand was on the joystick considering he had gotten there before you. Luckily, he hadn't started the game.
{Twilight Syndrome Murder Case:
Investigation Edition.
Press START}
The words read, in a yellow font. The pale blue light of the game reflected back onto yours and Hajime's bodies. It had a strange, old-fashioned vibe to it.
Hajime pressed the ENTER key on the dashboard, and the screen faded to a red screen with black lines all over it, imitating a horror screen. The dirtied, white font on said screen read "Day 2".
"We went immediately to day two... why not day one?
As the red screen faded, there was a girl standing alone in a hallway. Long, straight black hair, a brown sweater vest, a pink skirt, and black knee high socks.
"By the way, (Y/N)..." Hajime spoke. "...It said this game was based off of non-fiction."
You looked at him slowly, seeing as he was already looking at you.
"Maybe that's why this is a motive. It could have something to do with the people on the island. Something that maybe...we forgot..."
You nodded slowly at the boy in understanding. "...Might as well keep going with it. We're here now..."
Hajime slowly nodded, pressing on a button.
This was going to be a long, long night.

ZOO WEE MAMA
this one took a small toll on me ngl!! after not writing barely anything for almost 9 months then cramming about 4k words in one night, but tbh it was worth it for u guys!!
anyways, proposition!
as you guys probably know, this is my first fan fiction written on wattpad (but definitely not the last). i'm not the biggest fan of danganronpa, but i'm still going to continue on with this fanfiction because of the special place it holds in my heart.
...so what would you guys think if i also started another book?
throughout the 2 (?) years of being a fanfiction writer, ive come up with a lot of good ideas for other stories (some being more danganronpa)
i can give you all the premise of some of them if you'd like! i have a multitude of interests and am always thinking.
here are some rn!
danganronpa trigger happy havoc: in which the daughter of a government official is put into a killing game, and is determined to make it out alive, whether it be with everyone else, or not.
danganronpa v3 killing harmony: in which an unwilling girl is put into a killing game, but will put her life on the line to make sure nobody dies.
worlds end club (the best game ever btw!!! also made by the creators of danganronpa and is 10x more amazing go check it out i beg!!!): in which the self proclaimed "bodygaurd" of the go-getters club makes sure to keep the others out of harms way in the tokyo apocalypse, even at the extent of their own health. (made this one w my best friend btw they're a slay i love them)
tokyo revengers (mitsuya takashi): in which the head of the sewing club pines for a member of the light music club.
soul eater: in which steins daughter/child helps teach at the DWMA, shenanigans still ensue.
deathnote: in which L calls a european detective to hire on the kira case in japan. the catch? the detective is also a deathnote haver.
my hero academia (something else im not a fan of but i wanna write this still): in which UA offers an stubborn, anti-hero society girl a spot in the top hero course as a way to get her out of the experimentation lab she is also unwillingly a part of. (tbh even if yall dont vote this one im still gonna do it im not letting go of this idea)
twisted wonderland (TWST FANS HMU!!!!!): in which an unwilling, tired, overworked art student gets isekai-ed against their will. they don't have time for this, and why is everyone suddenly hitting on them? get them out.
that's all of em!! please vote! i love this fanfiction but i wanna write other stuff for yall too :))
i really do hope you all enjoyed, and thank you all for staying with me. my school year is almost over and i'll have a lot of free time in the summer (school was the main reason i couldn't write at all)
i love everyone sososomuch and i hope everyone has an amazing rest of their day! stay safe, besitos <3
