~~

It was decided. You, and everyone else had voted for Teruteru.

"Correct!" Monokuma cheered. "That's right! This time, the blackened responsible for killing Byakuya Togami is Teruteru Hanamura!"

"N-No...nonononononono...!" Teruteru babbled.

"A-Are you serious...!?" Fuyuhiko seethed. "Out of all these people... Are you saying a ponce like him is the one who killed Byakuya?"

"B-But..." Nekomaru strained. "WHYYYYYYYYY!?!? WHY DID YOU KILL HIM!?!?"

"I-It was a mistake... I'm telling you it was just a mistake..." Teruteru murmured. "I...was only trying to save you guys... I was only trying to stop Nagito from murdering one of you!"

"What...?" You mumbled. "'Trying to stop'... What do you mean?" You asked, as the accused stayed silent.

"I spent all morning in the old building preparing the dishes for the party... a-and then... I heard a weird laughter near the dinning hall...and when I peeked over there... I saw him." Teruteru confessed. "I saw Nagito, in the middle of cleaning duty, putting the knife under the table...! I-I had a bad feeling about it...so I continued to watch what he was doing... And I saw him place the irons he bought in the storage room...and mess with the air conditioner timers... Plus, he was grinning... Just grinning by himself the whole time... S-So...I questioned him... Wh-When that happened...he...!" He said. "H-He told me he wanted to start the killings, and that it would be pointless to stop him... He said he had such great admiration for us all, that he wanted to see us overcome this despair..."

"N-Nagito...what is the meaning of this?" Hajime asked. "E-Explain it to me! I don't understand...anything about this story at all!"

"You see, if you have a favorite boxer, don't you want him to fight against a strong opponent and win?" Nagito said.

"You better not compare us to that." Fuyuhiko growled.

"Huh? Am I wrong?" Nagito questioned. "It's a given that trials are necessary to become strong, and the harsher the trial, the stronger you become, no? For mere humans, killings are simply a tragedy, but...for worthy humans, a trial such as this can elevate their status to an even higher level. It's amazing to me that someone as untalented as myself can become that trial! There's no point in someone like me surviving... It's far more significant for me to die as everyone's trial. There's no greater honor than becoming the foundation so that your values may ascended to brave new heights!"

"S-Stop it... You're seriously...starting to piss me off..." Kazuichi mumbled.

"I-I don't understand at all! Are you saying you basically wanted to commit murder for fun!?" Mahiru exclaimed.

"It's not the same as someone killing for fun, but...I guess it'd look the same in your eyes." Nagito laughed. "I have no intention of surviving and leaving you all do die."

"Is that why...you didn't mind when Teruteru discovered your plan?" Hajime asked.

"Or perhaps that was intentional too?" Chiaki wondered.

"...Huh?" Teruteru muttered.

"Nagito wanted to involve us in the killing... Plus, it'd be better for him if the mystery was more complex..." Chiaki said. "Is that why you blatantly revealed your plan to Teruteru? You expected to pique Teruteru's curiosity... And you looked forward to the mystery becoming more complex."

"Well...you're basically right. It's true I was looking forward to that. That's why I took the time to tell him about the secret passage I found while I was cleaning..." Nagito confessed.

"That was your doing as well!?" Gundham exclaimed.

"I just casually mentioned it: 'Oh, it's dangerous if you fall, so don't get too close to it.'." Nagito said.

"U-Ughhhhhhh..." Teruteru muttered.

"This dude... He's seriously bathshit crazy! He's insane!" Kazuichi yelled.

"Th-That's right! That's why I tried to stop him, you know!" Teruteru exclaimed.

"But why...why did you kill Byakuya instead?" Sonia asked.

"I-I don't know!" Teruteru cried. "Because...Nagito was the one who was supposed to take that knife... Th-That's why...I aimed and thrusted the iron skewer there... But why is Byakuya the one who died!? It was supposed to be Nagito, not him!"

"Byakuya...probably tried to stop Nagito from grabbing the knife..." Hajime said. "And then...in place of Nagito..."

"...That doesn't sound right." You interjected.

"Huh?" Was the only noise that came out of Hajime.

"I was thinking the same thing." Chiaki said. "Byakuya was probably trying...to protect Nagito."

"Wh-What did you say!?" Nekomaru exclaimed.

"Cuz...Byakuya said so, didn't he?" Chiaki wondered.

"Byakuya promised that as our leader, he vowed to keep us safe." You reminded.

"C-Could it be...? In order to keep that promise...?" Mikan stuttered.

"Since Byakuya was wearing those night vision goggles, it's very likely that he saw someone moving under the floorboards." You said. "And that someone was...aiming for Nagito.

"S-So Byakuya gave his life trying to protect Nagito? Even though he was trying to take the knife?" Mahiru asked.

"I see... Byakuya is amazing..." Nagito chuckled. "To keep his promise to protect everyone, he actually threw his own life away... And yet... I never expected an ending like this... Such despair!"

"Wha-!?" Hajime exclaimed.

"But...we shouldn't let him die in vain. I'm sure everyone will become even stronger by overcoming this despair." Nagito said, as he hugged himself, tightly.

"Could it be...? You knew Byakuya would protect you, so you set him up to fail?" Peko questioned.

"...Of course not. I'm not that good at calculating. I just took some precautionary measures. The results of that were going to be my fun for later... Just kidding." Nagito said. "But I never expected it would turn out like this. I never thought I'd be the one to survive. But since it was my life that had been saved, I didn't want to just waste it... So that's why I decided to help Teruteru."

"Why...the hell would you decide to help him?" You questioned, in disbelief.

"Well, because... Teruteru decided to commit his crime because he also had strong hope, right?" Nagito mused. "Which means his actions were motivated by hope... If he was willing to go that far, I thought he might truly be the person whose existence I was waiting for. I thought he might be the hope that could defeat any type of despair. In order for me to confirm it, I decided to help Teruteru!"

"Wh-What do you mean, 'confirm'!? Just stop it already!" Hajime yelled

"Plus...I couldn't really help myself when I also empathized with Teruteru... After all, he wanted to kill me but ended up killing Byakuya instead, you know? If I left him in that confused state, this trial might have been ruined, right?" Nagito said. "But in order for our hope to grow, this trial was absolutely necessary. That's why... I decided to help him! I told him, 'I don't care if I die, so you should just focus on escaping this island...'. Those were my exact words to him before the investigation... Isn't that right, Teruteru?"

"Ugh...ughhhhhhhh...ughhh..." Teruteru squirmed.

"In the end, my help just wasn't enough, and this turned out to be a bad ending for Teruteru..." Nagito sighed. "But you should be proud of yourself. You will not die in vain! You will become a splendid sacrifice for everyone else so that their hopes can grow even more powerful!"

"S-Sacrifice...!?" Teruteru screamed.

"S-Seriously, stop it already! I'm gonna go crazy just listening to you!" Kazuichi yelled.

"Hey, is it really okay for us to leave this crazy bastard along like this?" Fuyuhiko wondered. "Isn't it better if we just fucking kill him off!?"

"Kyaaaaah! 'Kill,' he said! High school students are sooooo violent these days!" Monokuma cried.

"You are *literally* the one who put us in this situation..." You sighed. "You're a fucking instigator!"

"Oh well~! I am what I am!" Monokuma giggled, sadistically. "But the person who's gonna get killed now isn't Nagito. It's Teruteru."

"...Eek!" Teruteru squeaked.

"Puhuhu~, you didn't forget, right? Cuz I told you already at the beginning, right?" Monokuma asked, faking innocence. "If the blackened loses...a fun punishment awaits them."

"H-Hold on..." Teruteru stuttered. "Th-That was...how should I put it...an accident...Um...an act of self-defense... Uh...not intentional... Anyway...I feel it's possible it's not my fault."

"It doesn't matter if it's an accident, self-defense, or intentional, a murder is still a murder!" Monokuma yelled. "If you kill someone, that's murder!"

"B-But... Isn't there anything like sympathy judgements, extenuating circumstances...or maybe even a probabtion...?" Teruteru spewed, begging for some sympathy over his actions.

"I don't accept any of those claims!" Monokuma yelled again.

"H-Hey! Save me you guys! I was only trying to stop Nagito...so...!" Teruteru begged as he turned to everyone else.

"But be honest... After learning about Nagito's plan, you saw an opportunity, right?" Monokuma chimed. "You probably thought nobody would find out if you killed him after messing up his plan, right...? That's what you thought, right?"

"Y-You're wrong! I—!" Teruteru cried.

"There's no way a person who has no malice...would kill someone like that." Monokuma said.

"...Ugh!" Teruteru gasped.

"In truth, you were just desperate to kill Nagito...and willing to sacrifice everybody else to survive, right?" Monokuma asked. "Just be honest already...at least, in the end.

"Ugh, ugh, ugh, ughhhhh..." Teruteru strained. "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!"

"T-Teruteru...!" Sonia gasped.

"If only you didn't try to kill Nagito... Byakuya would still be alive..." Mahiru stated. "Why did you try to commit murder!? Answer me, Teruteru!"

"U...Ugh..." Teruteru gaped. "I...I just...I wanted to go home...I needed to go back home no matter whaaaaaaaaaat!" Teruteru yelled. "Because...she's waiting for me... Momma...is waiting for me at home. She's waiting all by herself...for the day I graduate Hope's Peak Academy and come home." He said. "I...promised...I promised her I'd become a full-fledged cook and save the Hanamura Diner. Momma...is waiting for me to keep that promise. Even though she's sick...and alone...she's still waiting for me." Teruteru explained. "That's why I needed to go home!"

"T-Teruteru...!" Sonia cried, as small drops of tears threatened to fall down her face.

"But...our memories have been stolen." You said. "It's been...*years* since our first day at Hope's Peak..."

"Th...That's right..." Teruteru muttered, before a worried expression overtook his features. "Then what happened to the Hanamura Diner!? What happened to my mom who's still waiting for me!?"

"So you did believe what Monokuma said..." Peko expressed.

"You were saying all along... 'It's okay...I'll never believe something like this...'". Kazuichi muttered. "So WHY!?"

"I-I still don't believe it!" Teruteru cried. "There's no way I can believe it... It...it has to be a lie... That's why I wanted to go home! I wanted to...go home and confirm it... I wanted to make sure...it was all just a lie... I wanted to make sure that I still have a place to call home!"

"Gh...! Teruteru...you...!" Nekomaru strained.

"I don't believe it... I don't...believe...it..." Teruteru muttered, mindlessly.

"Y-You... You can't say you didn't believe it..." You sighed. "Because... if you really didn't believe it, then you wouldn't have tried to commit a murder in the first place..."

"I-I...wanted to confirm by any means necessary...I had to do something...That's when I heard Nagito's plan." Teruteru said. "I-I found out he was going to kill someone if I left him alone... That's why... That's...why..."

"Sooooooo you wanted the first kill?" Monokuma interjected.

"I'm sorry...you guys..." Teruteru whispered. "It doesn't mean I wanted to sacrifice any of you. But...it was the only thing I could do... And...I ended up killing Byakuya...instead of Nagito... Ah...I see..." Teruteru muttered. "I think I'm the one...who went crazy."

"T-Teruteru..." Hajime mumbled.

"I see, I see...interesting. But..." Monokuma wondered. "As far as motives to kill are concerned, wanting to see your mom is boooooooooooooooring."

"Wha-!?" Hajime gasped.

"Sooooo... It seems there's no point in basking in the afterglow, so let's hurry up and begin the punishment!" Monokuma laughed vicariously.

"N-No! You can't!" Monomi yelled...earning her a punch to the face by Monokuma.

"Jeez! Get outta my way!" He groaned. "There...now that the annoying little sister has been dealt with, let's get back to business..."

"H-Hold on a sec..." Teruteru stuttered. "I'm not asking...for forgiveness anymore...B-But...at least..."

"Now then, I've prepared a veeerryyy special punishment for Teruteru Hanamura, the Ultimate Cook!" Monokuma declared, blatantly ignoring the pleading chef.

"Call me 'Chef'! No, wait, that's not what I—!" He quivered, violently. "P-Please... Please tell me at least... What happened to the Hanamura Diner...to Mama?"

"Let's give it everything we've got! It's...PUNISHMENT TIIIIIIIME!" Monokuma declared happily.

"L-Lies... I won't believe this..I...won't...believe...it...!" Teruteru said. "...MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

And as soon as that horrifying, blood curdling scream from Teruteru finished ringing in the depths of your ears, Monokuma had taken out a wooden mallet and hit it once on a big red button. On the giant screen above everyone, there was a pixelated Monokuma dragging away a pixelated Teruteru, who seemed to be crying. The text under that said

'TERUTERU HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY. TIME FOR THE PUNISHMENT!'

Soon after, a very large chain had shot out of a giant door in the trial room, and made a straight beeline towards Teruteru. A giant cuff had grabbed him right on his neck, and began dragging him away from the stands, and towards the door the chain was coming from. Teruteru's face was devoid of all traces of hope, and he was desperately reaching toward you all, as multiple droplets of sweat, and maybe even some tears. A few seconds later...the door shut on him. And then, the screen projected something new.

"Deep Fried Teruteru"

"Ultimate Cook Teruteru Hanamura's Execution: Executed"

As soon as that was taken off the screen, the camera panned to show Teruteru restrained on what looked like...the beach. In the sky, there was a helicopter, being flown by another Monokuma. A button had popped up in the said button, and, of course, Monokuma had pressed it. From there, two missiles came out from the sides, and were shot directly at Teruteru.

As soon as they were deployed, they made their mark to hit Teruteru...which they did. The giant explosion of those missiles wafted over the entire screen, minimizing your vision as to what happened to Teruteru. As soon as the explosion cleared, there seemed to be a dazed Teruteru covered in a golden yellow substance...most likely butter.

Then, the camera panned back to the Monokuma-copter in the sky, where another button shot up after the previous one. Monokuma pressed the button once again, and there, under the helicopter, was another giant missile, the size was basically the two previous missiles combined. The missile, once again, shot straight for Teruteru, and made an even bigger explosion than before.

Once that explosion had cleared, Teruteru was now covered in a seemingly grainy, white substance, which had began clumping due to the butter already covering Teruteru. The new powder was most likely flour, and Teruteru coughed some of its excess out.

The helicopter then took off, while connecting a chain to where Teruteru's post was. As soon as it had connected, it began flying off, over the ocean, dragging Teruteru along with it.

After a while of flying, the camera panned over a massive volcano, as you softly gasped as you realized what was about to happen.

The helicopter stopped right above the boiling, bubbling volcano, and after a few, stress-induced seconds...the helicopter had let go of Teruteru's chain, dropping hims right in the lava. The sizzling of Teruteru's now cooked body went on for longer than your mind can handle, the camera only facing the cooked, dead body of Teruteru. After a few seconds, the sizzling had ceased, and the giant monitor everyone was watching the execution on started flickering, and almost glitching.

That was the end.

Teruteru Hanamura...was now dead.

"YAHOOOOOOOOO!!! EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEME!" Monokuma cheered, interrupting the moment everyone had just had, of watching someone who was previously with you all, get cooked into a tempura.

"Kyaaah!" Monomi cried.

"Phew! The adrenaline is rushing through me!" Monokuma huffed.

"T-Teruteru!" Mikan yelled, horror-struck.

"Gh...oooohhhh...! A-Are you...fucking serious...ughhh...!" Kazuichi strained.

"Ah...aaaahhhh...aaahhhhhhhhhhhhh...!" Ibuki exclaimed.

"Wh-Why...? Why...did you do something so cruel?" Sonia cried.

"Huh? Didn't you learn when you were in elementary school? If you badmouth someone, the teacher writes it in a note, and makes whoever you badmouthed read it to you in front of the class..." Monokuma said. "When that happens, only then do you think about how it feels to be badmouthed. The same applies to murder."

"No it fucking doesn't-"

"Y-You're the one who drove him to do it!" Mahiru yelled at Monokuma.

"Ugh...so cruel... This is just too cruel...!" Mikan uttered, wiping the falling tears from her eyes.

"Well, it can't be helped. Rules are rules and this is the killing rule after all!" Monokuma chimed.

"What...rule..." Hajime muttered. "You're the one who's breaking the rules!"

"Huh? I can't just let that slide... What do you mean?" Monokuma questioned, a slightly brightening hue wafting over his red eye.

"You said that after the killing started, you would give us our school memories back!" Hajime exclaimed. "Wh-Why...why didn't you tell Teruteru about his mom or his diner!? He had a right to know!"

"Yeah...us too... We all have a right to know...!" Fuyuhiko grumbled. "Hey! Hurry up and tell us! What did you mean earlier when you mentioned our 'school memories'?"

"Oh yeah, I did promise to return your memories after the killing began..." Monokuma giggled, innocently hiding his mouth with his paws.

"Huh? You're gonna do it? But...telling them is kind of..." Monomi trailed off, as Monokuma kept on giggling.

"Oh..." You muttered under your breath, as the expression on your face morphed into one of annoyance...and anger. "You ass-hat!"

"(F-F/N)! W-What is the matter?" Sonia questioned, surprised by your sudden outburst.

"He said he'd give us back our memories when the killing started...but he never specified when." You said, as you turned back to Monokuma. "You little shit-bag! What the hell is wrong with you!?"

"AAAHAHAHAHAHA~! That's right!!" Monokuma yelled.

"Wha-...!?" Fuyuhiko stuttered.

"Th-That's not fair!" Akane exclaimed.

"Of course, I'll keep my promise to return your memories someday." Monokuma rung. "But...it's still not clear when 'someday' will actually be... Bwah-hahahahaha!"

"You really are a little shit... What the hell is wrong with you!?" You exclaimed. "So what, it's gonna be when only six of us are left alive and *that's* when you'll give our memories back!? When the majority of us are fucking dead because you like to play us like a game of FUCKING CHESS!?" You yelled, extremely aggravated with the new circumstances.

"Chess is a game of strategy and taking the opponents other hand... And I'd say I'm winning so far! Puhuhu~!!" Monokuma laughed all too innocent, before disappearing into the ground below, making you grumble.

"I must excuse myself as well! Th-There's something that I need to do!" Monomi panicked, as she disappeared as well.

"Wh-What the heck...!?" Kazuichi uttered, grasping at his beanie.

"That's not fair! They both ran away!" Ibuki exclaimed.

"Little fucking dirtbags...goddamn cunts..." You grumbled under your breath.

"M-Monokuma had us wrapped around his finger after all...!" Mahiru observed, face twisted in remorse. "Teruteru...you stupid...!"

"An ending like this is just full of despair... A seriously tragic despair..." Nagito mumbled. "But still, at time like this... As the symbols of hope, you guys need to keep doing your best!"

"You...why're you smilin'?" Akane growled.

"How can you smile in a situation like this, you creep!" Ibuki panicked.

"Hold on...I'm sad too, you know...Didn't I tell you?" Nagito said. "From the bottom of my heart, I truly love you all. You Ultimates who inspire hope...and your splendid talents. There's no way I can be happy when we've lost such a talented individual."

"Don't go sayin' creepy shit! I'll fucking kill you!" Fuyuhiko raged.

"...Please, kill me any time." Nagito smiled, purely.

"...Huh?" Fuyuhiko uttered.

"If you hate me, I don't mind killing you killing me! I've already prepared myself to become your stepping stone!" Nagito ranted. "If absolute hope can be born from that...then my life is nothing special."

"You...how messed up are you...!?" Nekomaru exclaimed.

"However, if you're going to kill me, make sure you discuss it with me beforehand, okay?" Nagito mentioned. "You see, if you do that, then I can cooperate with the killer."

"Are you really insinuating that you would help your own killer...?" You questioned.

"It's really not that big of a deal. If you're students of Hope's Peak Academy... If you're the symbols of hope who possess the chosen talents... Then it shouldn't matter to you guys at all if I cooperate with the killer, right!?" Nagito said.

"Hmph... Declaring so confidently that you'll side with the killer... I don't trust you in the Angel's vicinity..." Gundham grumbled.

"Maybe this was his plan all along." Hiyoko seethed. "Since he's willing to work with the killer, he wants us to think it's better for us not to kill him..."

"Well, I don't mind what you think of me..." Nagito sighed. "In actuality, thanks to Byakuya, I'm starting to feel a small desire to live. Mostly, I just want to watch everyone destroy all the despair that comes for you, one after the other...!" He monologued. "Ahaha, just kidding!"

"Hey, can I punch ya? I just won't be satisfied till I punch ya!" Akane growled.

"Fine...let's stop this already... It's just going to be a waste of time...if we keep dealing with him...!" Hajime said.

"Huh? Even Hajime hates me now?" Nagito questioned.

"Yeah... I agree..." You sighed. "We just- we need to stop and leave..."

"(F/N) too!?" Nagito gasped. "That stings... I felt the three of us had a bond since the first day on the beach... I believed we were all similar in different, unique ways..."

"Don't put me in the same category as you!" Hajime yelled.

"But it's true. Monokuma said it himself... We don't know anything about each other's true nature." Nagito stated. "No, if it's true that our school memories were stolen, it's the same as not knowing our true selves, too... Especially for Hajime, right? Someone who can't even remember what his talent is..."

"...Akane...please feel free to punch him." Hajime uttered.

"Alright! Can I punch him, (F/N)? Please!?" Akane asked, as if she was charging up right as she was asking for your approval.

"Yeah. Go right ahead." You said plainly.

"W-Wait-!?" Nagito stuttered.

"P-Please stop this at once!" Sonia cried. "Nothing will come from fighting like this. There...there is something else that we must do."

"Something else...?" Kazuichi questioned.

"We must not argue with each other in a place like this. There...is something more important we must do." Sonia stated.

"Which is...? You prompted.

"Do our best." She stated. "We must leave here...and get some rest. And then...we shall all work together and do our best. Do our best so we never have to come back here again. That is what...I believe we must do right now..." Sonia said. "I am sorry... If only I was a better motivational speaker..."

"No, Sonia...you're right. We just need to leave and get some rest...and from there on, we all need to do our best to insure that *this* doesn't happen again..." You said.

"If we do our best...it's definitely going to pay off, right?" Kazuichi said.

"But...what do we have to work hard at?" Fuyuhiko questioned.

"I do not know, but we must do our best!" Sonia smiled.

"...Jeez, I don't get you at all. Are you some kind of moron." Fuyuhiko muttered.

"Nah uh-uh, I'm not letting you say that to Sonia. She's trying to uplift our spirits and telling us to do our best, and if you wanna wanna be a pessimistic little shit then do so on your own time. But, don't bring Sonia down." You ordered sternly, as you looked back at Sonia, who seemed to be glowing a pink hue. You mouthed to her 'You're doing great, don't listen to him.'

"What matters right now is that we all hold on to the feeling that we have to do our best." Chiaki said. "So...let's do our best. Let's make sure a killing like this never happens again."

"It's scary but...doing our best is our only option. There's no way I'm doing what Nagito said." Mahiru spoke.

"All right! I dunno what you're all talkin' about, but let's do our best for now!" Akane exclaimed.

"Very well... Even if we are not able to change the future, I guess I should at least change my tomorrow..." Gundham said.

"Damn fiend...I won't give up until the very end! I won't die in vain..." Nekomaru stated. "I'll give my entire existence, my entire power, my entire body and soul, and fight to the very end!"

"Yeah, you're right... Let's definitely work together and leave this island!" Hajime exclaimed.

"We...We got this. We'll stop any other killings...and we'll find our way out of here, as long as we all do our best." You said. "But, for right now...we need to leave this place, and get some sleep...we'll all reconcile tomorrow."

And at that, everyone began filing out of the trial room, leaving the souls of the two people, dare even say, your friends that had died that night, Byakuya and Teruteru. Nagito referred to them as  sacrifices, but there's no way an unjust murder can be compared to something as hedonistic as that. Everyone filed out from the exit of Monokuma Rock, and headed back to the cottages, where everyone could hopefully get some sleep. Obviously, the feeling of regret wafted over everyone's body as they passed by the now empty cottages of Byakuya and Teruteru.

Softly entering your cottage, the first thing you did was flop backwards on your bed, heaving one of the hardest sighs you had since you had come to the island. It took almost all of your strength to heave yourself up from the cushion and change out of the dress Mahiru gave you, making a mental note to remember to return it the next chance you had. You finished as fast as you could, immediately flopping back onto the bed and pulling the covers completely over your head, as you tried to situate yourself in a comfortable position after everything. As soon as you found a comfortable position on your side, you closed your eyes to try and succumb to the temple in your mind.

You couldn't sleep.

It had been hours since the class trial, since Teruteru's execution, and you had just been laying awake in your bed since then.

"Fuck this, I'm gonna go take a walk..." You thought, as you pulled the covers off of your body with a small 'huff'. You quickly pulled on your boots, without the mind to tie the laces. It didn't matter anyway, you wouldn't trip because. Your laces were short.

You exited your cabin, trying not to make too much noise as you almost slammed your door shut. A small exhale escaped you lips as you walked away from everyone's cabin, and towards the island's beach.

Even though you had the initial thought of going for a walk, as you approached the intersection where the sand met the sea, the small cap where the waves wouldn't wash over the sand anymore, the small barrier between the damp sand and the dry, grainy sand, you just...stood. (🧍🏻‍♀️)

You stood there, watching the waves almost reach the tips of your soles, but never once doing so. This time, an extremely heavy exhale left you, almost becoming a whine at the very end, as you closed your eyes.

The beach was supposed to be a calming place...a place where others could enjoy themselves. A place where you have fun with your friends, or take a vacation to relax. But, now, the beach seemed like a place with a death wish.

You sat down, not caring about the annoying sand that would stick to your butt, as you pulled your knees to your chest, and rested your chin on your knees.

"Fuck..." You sighed. "Where did it all go wrong?" You whined, pressing the palms of your hands to your forehead, as you shook your head from side to side slightly.

In the background, against the crashing waves, and your annoying thoughts, you heard what you thought was...rustling, and someone else walking.

You turned around, looking over your right shoulder, and seeing nothing. You looked over your left shoulder...and there someone was.

"Are you just watching me, Hinata?" You questioned, almost comically. Hajime thanked the dark night sky that you couldn't see the way his entire face heated up as he was caught.

"..." He stayed silent. "What happened to calling me Hajime?" He tried to laugh off.

You chuckled back, looking back into the horizon where the sea looked like it ended, listening to the calm waves.

"So...what're you doing out here?" You asked, still looking out into the waters.

"I could ask you the same thing..." Hajime murmured.

"I asked you first." You laughed, although anyone could tell it was clearly forced. "... I couldn't sleep... I don't know what it is, but I just...couldn't."

"Yeah, I couldn't sleep either..." Hajime said, while you still looked at the seemingly never-ending sea. There was a small moment of silence, before there was a small rustling of clothing on your left.

Hajime had moved from his not-so-conspicuous place next to a tree, to right next to you.

"I hope you don't mind me sitting next to you." Hajime said.

"I don't mind...the company is kinda nice." You smiled, Hajime doing the same. You both stayed there for about a minute, a comfortable silence taking over.

"...What do you think's gonna happen?" Hajime asked.

"...I don't have a clue." You said. "It's not all that impossible that someone would try to kill someone again..."

"W-What are you saying!?" Hajime gasped.

"Even though Teruteru was 'set up' by Nagito... He still decided to try and kill him out of own free will." You said. "And, we also don't really know everyone's true natures...take Nagito, for example. We didn't know what he was really like until this class trial...and what it was was...concerning."

"Yeah...speaking of which, what are we even going to do with him...!?" Hajime asked, almost panicking.

"I- I don't know. Monitor him or some shit??" You shrugged. "He would definitely try to kill someone, based on what we found out... I think it'd be best if we kept tabs on him for now."

"So, like...restrain him?" Hajime muttered.

"Wh- No!" You laughed, making Hajime chuckle softly too. After you came down from your laughing moment, a small chill of air wafted over you and Hajime, making you cover your bare arms. In your spur of decision to take a walk, you forgot to grab your jacket.

"Why did you not bring your jacket with you before you came?" Hajime chuckled.

"Oh leave me alone... My original decision was to go on a walk, and it was extremely spontaneous." You responded, before giving him a side eye. "You did really good in the trial by the way... You saved my ass."

"Th-Thanks... But you did a lot of the work, too." Hajime said. "Your thought process was super well thought out, and you presented your evidence super well... I only really helped at the end..."

"Hey hey, no self depreciation here." You said. "If it weren't for you, Teruteru would've continued with his mindless reasoning as to how *I* was the killer... If you hadn't presented you're...evidence, then it's a strong possibility that all of us would be dead."

"I guess you're right..." Hajime sighed.

"...I don't like the evidence you presented though." You grumbled. "Why is the fact that Nagito fell on top of me  the thing that proves my innocence over like...so many other things!?"

Hajime laughed. "I mean...as long as we're all alive."

"Yeah..." You muttered, the slightest of smiles on your face. Both you and Hajime stayed sitting there for some time longer. The company was something both you and him didn't know you would need at a time like this, after two of your friends had just died.

After a while, you yawned, and Hajime noticed.

"We should go back to sleep now..." He muttered, as you waved your hand in a 'no' motion.

"Nono...it's fine... I never cared about sleep, anyway." You smiled softly.

"Yeah...but I do... A-And I care about you now, too..." Hajime muttered.

"That's sweet... I care about you too... Gotta make sure you don't die, ya'know?" You said, making both of you chuckle.

"But, seriously... We should get back to our cottages..." Hajime said.

"...Look at the stars." You said so softly, it was almost a whisper.

"Huh...?" Hajime muttered.

"Look." You instructed, as Hajime complied. However, his slightly blank-confused face didn't look like your loving, calm gaze. "I don't see it." He said, so plainly, so monotonously that it was almost comical.

You sighed, and looked at him. "Follow my hand, m'kay?" He nodded, as you pointed your hand directly where you were looking. You looked back at him as you finished, and he still had a confused look on his face.

You softly laughed, then sighed before just taking your own hand, and just grabbing Hajime's hand. You couldn't see it, but he was embarrassed and flustered by your sudden move, as you carefully moved your hands directly where you were staring at... And there, he finally saw it.

Amongst the starts, there was a pair of two, that were shining brighter than the others. All the other stars looked amazing amongst the dark blue utopia that was the night sky, but those two that were shining so brightly just stood out much more than the others. It almost made the sky feel...complete.

Hajime now understood why you looked so peaceful looking at those two stars. You both let your hands drop, and the landed in the exact same place, but neither of you focused on that at the moment, but just on the glistening stars in the sky. "The two..." He muttered.

"Yeah..." You responded softly. "They shine so much brighter than the rest, but, alltogether...is just seems so nice."

"Those two stars...they're kinda like...you and me..." Hajime muttered, with the slightest hint of questioning in his voice.

"...Are you trying to flirt, Hajime Hinata?" You questioned, the slightest hint of teasing in your voice.

"N-No...!" He blushed, as you only laughed softly, slightly squeezing his hand that was under yours.

Now, Hajime really took in account what was going on. When you took his hand to point him to the stars you were looking at, you had to slightly shift closer to him. When your hands both dropped, yours had fallen on top of his, hence the way you were now softly squeezing it. But...he stopped caring as he saw you calm face, looking at the beautifully painted night sky. He looked with you for a few minutes more.

Of course, after those few minutes, he had to break the silence.

"Okay...we should actually go back to our cabins now." He said, looking back at you for any sort of reaction.

"...Fine." You said, softly, as you slowly got up from your sitting position. You brushed off the access sand that stuck to your bottom. As you were done, you reached your hand out to Hajime, who was still sitting down. He took it, doing the same thing you did.

And, at that, the two of you made your ways back to your cottages. At the intersection where the both of your would part, you stopped him.

"I'll see you at breakfast...right?" You asked, smiling.

"Yeah... As long as I see you there, too..." Hajime said, bashfully.

"You know I will..." You chuckled. "See you in a few hours, Hajime." You waved goodbye, as he did the same.

You softly opened and closed the door to your cottage for the second time this night. You smiled happily at your new memory with Hajime, feeling as this was a nice, intimate way of bonding with someone.

You laid down in your bed, again, fixing the blinds so that the golden morning light would hit you at dawn so you could wake up. At that, you closed your eyes with your new memory in mind.

If only you knew Hajime was doing the exact same thing you were.
