JOY
"So what time is this party of yours," I ask as I set the last of my boxes on the ground of the wide living room.
Our dorm was one of the larger ones on campus. My parents wanted to make sure that I moved into a place that was comfortable for me. With its wide living area, kitchen, and two bedrooms (which included bathrooms for each), I would say I was very comfortable where I was.
"It's around nine. They said I could bring people, do you want to come?" Taegan looked up at me from searching through her boxes. "You could probably find a hookup buddy." She wiggled her eyebrows.
I snorted. "I'm not going that far."
"You could."
"I won't."
"You might."
"Probably." I giggled. "And what about you?"
Taegan shrugged. "Whatever happens, happens."
"If it happens to me, it happens to you."
"Threesome?" She laughed and I choked. "Nah, you're too straight for that."
I huffed. "Whatever. I'll go to the party though. Classes don't start till next week anyway."
"Great!" Taegan smiled wide. My best friend was so pretty. "Let's be ready by eight thirty?"
I nodded, mirroring her smile. "Let's hurry and put our boxes away."
***
"How do we look?"
"Sexy." Taegan winked. "Very sexy." I laughed as she checked herself out in the mirror, blowing her reflection a kiss.
I wore a white mesh corset top with spaghetti straps and cream pleat pants. I paired it with white boots and a gold necklace. Taegan wore a brown, leather, cropped tank with matching leather pants and her signature black boots to match.
"If we don't have people hitting on us tonight, something is wrong with the world." Taegan glanced from our reflections in the mirror, to me.
"But I thought we agreed KAM." My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Who said men were going to hit on us?" Taegan fluffed up her curls and whispered one more confidence boost to the both of us before she said, "Let's go before we stare at ourselves all night."
The party was loud, as expected.
It was like the parties you saw in the coming of age movies and parties described in books. People danced with each other. Some were obviously drunk and others so sober it was like they didn't want to be here.
"Want a drink?" Taegan yelled over the music and conversations of the crowd.
I nodded and she smiled, giving a thumbs up before finding her way over to the drinks.
I waited by the entrance for awhile, then began to scrunch my way through people with a muttered "excuse me" as if they'd listen and part the way for me. Unfortunately, they didn't, and I was forced to uncomfortably squeeze and push my way to a chair.
I was finally able to sit down on a vacant seat and watch the crowd. The parties I knew were less chaotic and the people there dressed in business party attire, and quietly chatted with each other with occasional smiles and soft laughs.
"You seem like you don't want to be here."
I looked up to a man covered in tattoos and piercings. He screamed trouble.
"I wouldn't have come if I didn't want to." I retaliated. "My friend knows better than to force me to do what I don't want to."
"She sounds like a slave."
"She's considerate of my feelings." I eye the man who now smirks in the seat next to me.
"What's your name, princess?" He rests his chin on his hand.
"What's yours?" I refrain from making eye contact and instead turn to the crowd.
"Kim Namjoon." He held out his hand for me. "Remember my name cause you'll be screaming it tonight."
I choked on air, starting to cough as Namjoon laughed. "I'm just kidding. I'm not like that." He started to softly pat my back as I coughed.
You sure act like you're like that.
"Are you okay?" He chuckled and I could see his dimples even under the small amount of light in the room.
"I'm fine, thank you." I shrugged his hand off my back.
"Am I going to have the honor of knowing your name, princess?"
"First of all, don't call me that."
"Hey." He put his arms up in defense. "You gave me no choice but to give you a nickname."
"My name is Joy." I forced a smile on my face.
"Pretty," Namjoon said. "You and your name."
I sucked in a breath. Flirt alert.
"Joy! I wasn't sure what drink you wanted, so I got like three... who's this?" Taegan smirked after glancing at the tattooed up man next to me.
"Kim Namjoon," He smiled up at Taegan. "You need help with that?" He signaled to the drinks in her arms.
"No, thanks." Taegan handed me two red cups.
"Are you guys freshman? I haven't seen you two around before."
In other words, he hasn't had sex with us before.
"Yeah, we are," Taegan replied, taking a large gulp of her drink. She downed it like it was normal for her to do.
I stared into my cup. "What drink did you get me?" I looked at her.
"I told them to surprise me, you know something simple." Taegan shrugged and smiled. As much as I loved her she was a bit reckless.
I rolled my eyes before smelling the drink. It was sweet with the hint of alcohol. I took a sip. It was sweeter than I had thought but tangy at the same time.
"Are you not an alcohol person?" Namjoon chuckled at me again.
"She grew up drinking warm teas and lattes in a mansion," Taegan joked. "That's why."
"Ah, so you are a princess, princess," he said.
"Don't you have girls to attend to?" I asked.
"They're not here yet." Namjoon smiled, making me stare at his lip ring.
I scoffed, shaking my head. "You know, if you're little act is trying to get us to leave with you tonight it won't work." I looked behind me to where Taegan was, but she was gone — "well it still won't work."
"Who said that was what I was trying to do?"
"You act like it. And look like it."
"Haven't you ever heard the saying don't judge a book by it's cover?"
"Yes, but you don't even have a cover to open and look inside. Past those dimples, it's all man whore."
"You like those dimples though, don't you, princess?"
Dang it, I do.
"No, I don't." I crossed my arms.
"You're cute when you're in denial and the truth is so obvious." Namjoon snickered.
"You're bothersome."
"Awe, you like me already." He leaned his head forward.
I raised an eyebrow, actually turning to look at him.
"So besides being adorable, what do you do for a living?" He stared back at me.
I scoffed, multiple times, slightly laughing from second hand embarrassment. "You're an idiot."
"Can I be your idiot?"
"Never."
"Never say never, princess."
I sighed, sitting back in my chair. "So what are you? You asked if we were freshman, but what year are you?"
"Second year, sophomore." He sat back in his chair, too. Then it was silent until, "Want to dance?" He sat up again, staring at me.
My eyes widened. "No, it's okay."
"Awe, come on, princess. I can teach you if you don't know how." Namjoon smirked.
"I can dance," I argued. "In fact, I took dance for a few years." I lied.
"Really?" He asked with a hint of sarcasm in his tone. "Then show me what you got."
Am I really doing this?
And I found myself on the dance floor with Namjoon. Throwing my head back laughing, holding onto his hand while I awkwardly twirled.
And I was sober. What the hell?
