CHAPTER TWENTY - NINE
JEONSHESUS ily

JUNGKOOK
By the time Joy had run off I felt lonely again. Not literally lonely but I felt bored and trapped right back in that bubble. I didn't want to study or go tutor more pot heads. I didn't even want to read in the library for that matter.
Reading alone wasn't that exciting...but with Joy, it felt all too exciting. I sighed, staring at her back instead of her pretty smile. How her hair just looked so neat made me want to run my hands through it.
I couldn't see her anymore once she turned the corner but I heard the shouting.
That's when it hit me: how selfish and fervent I sounded. To be wanting to read with my best friend's girlfriend. Twirling her around and hugging her just to see her addictive smile.
I felt the raindrops and decided that my time had expired for today and it was time for me to start minding my own business. The only building I could take cover in was the girls' dorm.
I rushed inside along with the other passing students and started to regret not voting to have a lounge in this place. I was stuck walking around in the hallways, girls staring and gawking at me. I knew my red hair looked good but I didn't expect it to be that good.
I mean, it was fading regardless, turning into a light pink. I was so focused on my hair that I didn't notice the person calling out my name.
"Jeon Jungkook."
I looked up and it was Ezra. "Ezra Birmingham." I said playfully but the look on her face right now wasn't a happy one. She looked pissed, maybe even beyond that. She was drenched from head to toe so I'm guessing she just walked in.
"We have to talk."
"Are you sure you don't want to dry off first?" I asked. She inhaled sharply and brushed her hand through her hair.
"No, I don't want to dry off. What I do want is for you to tell me how the fuck you could ditch me for the rest of the night, hmm?" Her hands were on her hips now, nostrils flaring and her foot tapping against the floor aggressively.
"What do you mean ditch—Oh snap."
I ditched her and had completely forgotten. I froze up and Ezra gave me this death stare that would normally eat me alive but right now I'm just embarrassed that I did it.
"Ezra, I had totally lost track of time. I didn't mean to—"
"You never mean to do anything, Jungkook! You're too fucking perfect to see that you fuck up at trying to be perfect. Get that into your thick fucking skull."
I opened my mouth to say something but Ezra cut me off.
"I'm not done yelling at you yet!" She held her hand up. "Not only did you ditch me, you ditched me for that prissy brat."
I exhaled. "I get it. You hate her. That doesn't mean I have to hate her, too," I said and she crossed her arms. "Look, she needed help and I helped her out. That's it."
"Yeah, sure that's all you did." Ezra mocked me with her facial expressions and I internally rolled my eyes. "You were with her all night and didn't come back like you said you would."
"Ezra, I'm sorry and I'll make it up to you, I promise. I don't think you need to make it such a big deal."
"I think I'm acting pretty rational right now!"
"Yeah, yelling at me for a mistake is totally rational!"
"Yeah, Jungkook, because mistakes are something you've never made towards me." Her expression turned from angry to wistful. "It's like I'm not important to you anymore and being an important person in your life is important to me." She pointed to herself as her voice broke. "I don't want an apology or some reason to forgive you."
I took a step forward. "Ezra, you're still important to me. But other people can be, too."
Ezra scoffed and stepped closer to me, until she was just a lean of the head away. "I want to be important to you in a different way, Jungkook. In case you haven't gotten the memo, you're not just a friend to me anymore."
Oh no. Is this where I have to break her heart by telling her I don't feel the same?
"I thought you had the same thoughts and feelings towards me." Ezra giggled. "I mean, we haven't been just friends these past few weeks and—"
"Ezra, stop." I whispered, looking at the ground.
"And I feel like we could be more if you just—"
"Ezra. Stop."
"What- what is it?" She asked, her voice full of doubt.
"I got the memo." I looked up and into her eyes. They were sad. "And I really — I really thought that I really liked you too."
She took a step back.
"Ezra, wait." I held my hand out.
"What do you mean liked?" Her face looked pale. My consciousness was screaming, telling me to take back my words but my heart wanted me to tell the truth; to scream it in her face.
"Well it's in the past tense so—"
"So you've been leading me on this whole fucking time, Jungkook!?" She was yelling now, catching the attention from everyone passing by and the embarrassment was crawling up my neck. I hated this. I didn't want to do this the way we were right now.
"I wasn't leading you on. You pushed your feelings onto me out of nowhere."
"But you acted as if the feeling was reciprocated."
"They were at one point but," I scratched my head and looked around. "Things got complicated."
"Things got complicated?" Ezra said in exasperation. "Let me guess. That prissy
princess started to spark your interests."
"Don't talk about her like that." I continued to look away.
"Oh, did I hurt her feelings from all the way over here?" Ezra pouted mockingly.
"Ezra, seriously quit it. Just because you don't get your way doesn't mean you throw it on me."
"But- but I thought you liked spoiled brats." Ezra grinned cunningly.
"Why do you have to act like that?" I asked in a soft voice. I saw her face falter for a second. "I know you're just upset."
Ezra looked away. "I have every right to be very upset with you, Jeon Jungkook."
"But no right to say anything about Joy."
Ezra looked me in the eye. "I have nothing else to say anyway."
"Then end of conversation." I pressed my lips together in a line then finally let out a sigh as she turned her back from me and walked away.
Did I just lose my best friend?

THIRD PERSON
"Mm, mm," Taegan softly pushed Penelope off of her. "Need a breath." She laughed, her hand still on Penelope's shoulder.
Penelope sat up as Taegan let go of her and began to put her hair up. Penelope just stared as Taegan's fingers wrapped strands of her hair together, exposing her neck and collarbone area.
Penelope couldn't help herself as she scooted closer to the girl who'd been captivating her. Her eyes were stuck on Taegan's bare neck as Penelope felt the urge to kiss it and trace her lips down to Taegan's collarbone. And even further down Penelope wanted to go.
"Penelope." Taegan said sternly.
Penelope looked up into Taegan's eyes and she laughed again.
"Phone's ringing." Taegan nudged her head to the nightstand beside her bed where Penelope's phone was buzzing.
"Oh," Penelope looked that way. "Right." She reached towards her phone, flipping it over and reading the contact.
Ezra was calling.
"It's Ezra." Penelope told Taegan. "I'm going to take it." Taegan nodded and Penelope pressed the accept.
"Hey, what's up—"
"I need you," Ezra's voice broke and Penelope's heart dropped. "Where are you? Can you come to the dorm?"
Penelope grabbed her jacket from the other side of the bed. "Yes. Yes, I'll be right there." Penelope walked out of the room, still holding her phone to her ear as Ezra continued to sniffle and cry.
Penelope was so focused on the girl through the phone that she forgot about the girl she'd been with the whole night.
She just left... just like that, without a goodbye. Taegan felt a familiar wave of sadness pulling on her heart: to be left for another. She stared at the blank space in front of the door that Penelope had just walked through. She missed the moments before that phone call had come through.
Of course Ezra was more imporant... they'd known each other for so long. Taegan would do just the same for Joy, right?
Still, the ache in her heart pressed on until she was able to close her eyes and get rest.
