CHAPTER SIXTEEN

THIRD PERSON

"Is this a party? Or like... an exclusive hangout?"

Namjoon laughed, "We can call it an exclusive hangout. Just my guys and a few people they wanted to invite."

Joy nodded, staring out the window. Her stomach was turning. "Kind of nervous," she muttered.

"Why, princess?"

"I want your friends to like me." She looked over at Namjoon in the drivers seat. He glanced over once or twice, still continuing to pay attention to the road.

"They will," He sent a reassuring smile towards
Joy, bringing the back of her hand up to his lips. "Or else I'll kick 'em where the sun doesn't shine." He joked, putting a small smile on her face.

It only took five minutes by car to get to the fraternity house from Joy's dorm. It was a red building with a white door and a porch wrapping around the front. Other cars had already taken up the driveway so Namjoon parked across the street.

There was music when they got inside, but it had a softer vibe to it.

"Ready?" Namjoon asked, taking her jacket and hanging it in the closet. Joy nodded and he took her hand, leading her to the main living room.

Two guys sat on the couch, all of them chatting amongst each other. With drinks in their hands they laughed, warmhearted with each other's presence.

"Yo!" Namjoon said in a lighthearted tone, giving each of his friend's a pat on the shoulder and a shake on their hand. Joy stood behind him, awkwardly smiling towards them then sitting beside Namjoon across from the others.

"So you're Joy," A ginger haired male said. He wore a green crewneck and brown sweatpants. A set of glasses sat on the bridge of his nose that crinkled up when he smiled. "Namjoon hasn't shut up about you since that first party."

Joy smiled, Namjoon chuckling beside her.

"I'm Klaus. This is Jaebum." Klaus pointed to the dark haired boy beside him. To everyone who didn't see him smile, he seemed to scream danger.

"Nice to meet you guys," Joy said. "To be honest, I was a bit nervous coming here but you all seem so sweet."

"They seem sweet," Namjoon commented.

"That's cold," Jaebum gulped down the contents of his cup.

"You pulled a good one, Joon," Klaus smiled, eyeing Joy. "Might have to show me her friends."

"Oh back off, Klaus," Jaebum laughed, pushing the ginger back against the couch. "She's terrified of you already."

"Oh no it's alright—"

"Oh my lord, is that her?" a female voice said from the kitchen.

Joy looked over to see two girls standing beside each other. One stood taller than the other, brown waves and a bright smile. The other had ash gray hair that matched the light tone of her skin. She was the one who spoke.

"She's gorgeous," The brunette said, walking over and pulling Joy up from her seat on the couch. She twirled Joy around, getting a good look at her. "I'm jealous, Namjoon."

Klaus made a vomiting sound behind the two.

"Homophobic much?" The ash gray girl asked with a smile, coming over to Joy. "I'm Yuna, this is Valerie."

"You can call me Val," Valerie commented, sitting the three of them down beside each other.

As the guys conversed, Valerie and Yuna took the opportunity to get to know their guest.

"Val's a psychology major and I'm in acting!" Yuna explained. "Although, I believe she's only in psychology to figure out her own mental state." Yuna whispered loud enough for Valerie to hear.

Valerie hit her friend, laughing. "I am perfectly fine! I'm in psychology to help you out, so I have no idea what you're talking about."

Joy chuckled beside the two; they reminded her of Taegan and herself.

"I'm a writing major," Joy replied after the girls asked her about what she was studying. "A life long friend of mine is here with me, too."

"What's her name? We should all hangout sometime!" Yuna clapped her hands happily.

"Her name's Taegan, I'm sure she would be happy to go out! We both need more friends," I chuckled. "Namjoon has so many I need some myself."

"Speaking of him, he's never been so happy around a girl before." Valerie nudged Joy's shoulder. "I'm glad he's doing better."

"Was he not okay before?" Joy asked, trying to smile. The thought of Namjoon not being in a good place was hurtful to her. She cared about him a lot and wanted him to smile the way he always did around her.

"It's not that he wasn't okay, he just didn't treat girls the way he treats you," Yuna said.

"What do you mean?" Joy pressed.

Valerie and Yuna looked between each other. Was there something Joy missed? Something Namjoon didn't tell her about him?

Yuna told Joy, "Namjoon was in a rough spot when he was a freshman. Notorious for picking and dropping girls the week after. Sometimes even the day after. Once the girl was attached he just let them go."

"He's different around you though," Valerie said, looking at Yuna and then Joy reassuringly. "He never talked about his girls around us until you. His face never lit up around those past girls like it does with you."

"So you have nothing to worry about." Yuna nodded, adding onto Valerie's reassurance. "And you have us to look out for you now." The two girls smiled.

Joy smiled back, shaking her head okay, though her stomach began to turn in fear. It had been almost a month since Namjoon and Joy started dating. If she was anything like a 'past girl' she would have been dropped already, right?

Maybe she'd question him about his past on the way back to the dorms. Then again, she didn't want to pry, and also hoped that he would tell her willingly, without fear of judgement.

What brought him to do that to those girls though? Who would be so cruel as to give someone so much adoration and happiness with the intention of letting them down in the end?

There had to be a good reason for it. Would it be okay for her to ask? If she didn't ask, would he ever tell her?

When the couple said goodbye and got into their car, Joy couldn't bring herself to ask. Maybe another time, she told herself. An appropriate time wouldn't be this one. They were coming home from a fun evening.

The girl from the cafe's words echoed in the back of Joy's mind.

It took awhile for those two sentences to stop haunting her. It had been a week since she encountered Jungkook and his 'friend' yet those words were clear as day inside her head.

"Oh, she doesn't know."
"You're not his only girl."

Resting her head on the window as Namjoon drove, her worried thoughts continued to take over her head. She made a note to herself to ask Taegan if she should mention the situation or not.

She trusted Namjoon, though. He would never do anything to hurt her.

Right?
