8.

As we walked to my house, Chris began to seem a little happier. I knew that Joseph wouldn't be very happy if he knew I had a boy in the house while he was away, but he didn't have to find out. And he wasn't going to.

When we got to my house, I led Chris up the front steps, before unlocking the door.

I opened it, giving him a small smile before motioning for him to go Inside.

He hesitated, then stepped inside, immediately looking around.

I came in behind him, shutting the door again.

"Your house is nice." He smiled at me.

I took his hand, leading him over to the hallway, which I pointed down.

"Is your room down there?" He asked.

I nodded, before beginning to pull him down the hallway.

He giggled as I did so. "Wait, you're going too fast!"

I stopped abruptly once I reached my bedroom door, and he accidentally ran into me.

I smiled at him, before opening my door and taking his hand again, leading him in.

He looked around, a smile growing on his face.

"I love it in here!" He exclaimed, dropping his soaking wet backpack on the floor. "It's so...you!"

He looked at my posters, pointing at the U2 one. "I love U2!"

I nodded, reaching into my pocket to feel the list of his likes and dislikes he had given me. I know, I wanted to say, If only I could.

What he did next sent me into some sort of shock.

He giggled, before plopping himself onto my bed, laying back and looking at the ceiling.

I just stared at him.

This was...cute? Especially since he was giggling as he did it.

I swallowed, before hesitantly sitting beside him, also laying back.

There was silence for a moment, then he looked at me.

"You know, I have some glow-in-the-dark star stickers we could put on your ceiling." He smiled.

I smiled, nodding excitedly.

"You want do it?"

I nodded again.

"Okay!" He Exclaimed, sitting up.

I sat up as He reached for his backpack, unzipping it and pulling out a few sheets of stickers.

He handed me a sheet, and we both looked up at the ceiling.

We spent an hour or two covering the ceiling, and some of the walls and door with his glowing stickers, and when we finished, we sat back on the bed, looking around.

"It looks so good!" He exclaimed.

I nodded, smiling at him.

He sighed happily, laying back again. I laid back as well, before hearing something that sounded like someone's stomach growling.

I looked over at him, pointing to his stomach.

"Hm?" He looked where I pointed.

I  brought my hand to my face, pointing at my mouth.

"Oh...no, I'm okay." He said, giving me a small smile.

His stomach growled again, and I gave him a look.

"Okay, Okay.." he laughed. "Maybe I'm a little hungry. But I'll wait until I get home to eat."

I shook my head, before grabbing his hand and pulling him off of the bed.

"Oh! Where are we going?" He asked, trying to keep up with me as I dragged him out to the kitchen.

I pulled the note from Joseph off of the microwave, handing it to Chris.

"I'll be at work late again, dinner is in the freezer.." he read it, looking up at me as I opened up the freezer. "Is this from one of your parents..?"

I looked back, shaking my head.

"Oh.." he mumbled, looking down at the note.

I pulled a frozen pizza out of the fridge, smiling as I pointed at him, then myself.

"It's really okay, I'm not very hungry.." he said, giving me a small smile.

I shook my head before smiling at in to let him know I really wanted him to stay and eat.

He bit his lip. "Okay.." he said. "If you're sure."

I nodded vigorously, before opening up the pizza. I placed it on a pan, then put it in the oven. I pressed preheat and set the temperature, then went over and sat down at the counter. I patted the chair next to me, and Chris came over, sitting down.

There was silence for a few minutes as we both sat there, Chris mindlessly twirling a finger through his curls.

When he spoke again, he seemed hesitant, but he looked over at me. "Can I ask you something?"

I looked over at him, nodding and giving him a small smile.

He looked down at his hands, which he was now resting on the counter.

"Do you have parents?"

I bit my lip, looking down.

"You don't have to answer.." he mumbled. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."

I laid my hand on his shoulder, shaking my head. I held up my finger, getting down from my chair.

I quickly made my way into my bedroom, going over to my dresser and pulling off my scrapbook.

Since I couldn't talk, the scrapbook was kind of my way of telling people my life story. It had pictures, and words, and things I could no longer explain on my own.

I wiped off the front, which was covered in a thin layer of dust, before running back to the kitchen and sitting in my seat beside Chris again.

I practically shoved the book at him, and he smiled a little.

"What's this?" He asked, taking it from me and looking at the cover.

I pointed to the name, and he smiled a little.

"Your life story."
