13.
As the two of us walked to Chris' house, he talked almost non-stop about the things we could do when we got there.
I loved how he sometimes acted as if he were a child, getting so excited over things so easily. Especially with what he's been through lately.
Suddenly, Chris grabbed my hand tightly, and I looked up at him.
"That's my house!" He exclaimed, before beginning to run.
I attempted to keep up with him, but he was sprinting, so it was incredibly difficult.
Finally, we made it to his front door, which he quickly unlocked as I tried to catch my breath.
He opened it, grabbing my hand again and pulling me inside excitedly.
"Chris, is that you?" I heard as we entered the house.
"Yeah, mum!" Chris called back.
"Remember to take off your shoes."
"Okay!"
I leaned down, quickly slipping off my shoes, and he did as well.
We set them by the door, and he took my hand again, pulling me into the living room.
Both of his parents walked in from the kitchen, immediately looking at me.
"Who's this?" His mum asked.
"Oh, this is my friend." He said, smiling. "You know, Ella."
"Ohh." His father said as they both nodded.
Had he told them about me?
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Ella." His mum said, smiling at me. "Excuse us for a second."
She gave Chris a look, and he nodded, looking down.
"I'll be right back." He mumbled, before following her into the other room.
I stood there awkwardly, looking down at my hands.
"Would you like to come sit, Ella?" Chris' father asked me.
I looked up at him, before nodding a little.
He led me over to the couch, where we both sat down. I looked around as the two of us sat in silence for a bit.
I wasn't really sure what to do, I mean, considering I couldn't say anything.
"So, Chris has told me a lot about you."
I looked up at him, and he smiled a little.
"He said you're his best friend." he said. "Thank you...for being kind to him."
I smiled, nodding a little.
"He's a good kid...and the other kids aren't always very nice to him." He explained, and I nodded.
I know, I wanted to say. They aren't very nice to me, either.
Suddenly, I heard yelling from the other room.
"I don't want to change schools!"
"Christopher, don't walk out on me!"
Then I heard the door open, before it slammed.
Chris came stomping out as I heard the door open again.
"Listen to me! This is unacceptable!" His mum shouted at him.
"I didn't start those fights!"
"That's not what I heard!" She Shouted.
I stood, and Chris' father did as well. "You can sit back down, Ella."
I shook my head, walking over to Chris and his mum.
"You know I wouldn't start fights!"
"Then why did the principal tell me that you did?"
Chris went to speak, but I stepped in, holding up my hand.
His mum looked at me confusedly, so I turned to Chris, pointing at his pocket.
He nodded understandingly, pulling out the pen and notepad.
He handed them to me, and I quickly began writing.
Chris didn't start the fights. The one boy has always picked on him. It only got worse because Chris stood up for me. It's not Chris' fault, believe me.
I handed the note to his mum, and she read it, nodding a little.
She handed the note back to me, and I shoved it in my pocket. She looked at Chris, patting him on the shoulder.
"I'm sorry.." she mumbled, before walking away.
Chris furrowed his eyebrows. "What did you say?" He asked me.
I smiled a little, shrugging.
"Oh, come on.." he said. "Don't do that. What did you tell her?"
I shrugged again.
"If you can't tell me, then I'll have to see for myself!" He laughed, before reaching his hand in my pocket.
"Christopher." His dad Said, and Chris quickly pulled his hand out of my pocket. "Don't be disrespectful."
"Yes, sir." Chris nodded, before turning to me. "But really, What did you say?"
I jokingly rolled my eyes before pulling the note out of my pocket, handing it to him.
He read it, before giving me a small smile.
"Thank you."
I smiled a little, nodding at him.
"Hey, would anyone like some tea?" Chris' Dad Asked.
Chris' face lit up. "Yes, please!"
