12.
Phil got over the fence, and just as Chris and I were about to, Chris gasped.
I looked at him questioningly, and he looked back with wide eyes.
"I'm stuck!"
I looked down, seeing that his ankle was caught in a sharp part of the fence.
"Chris!" Phil Said. "Can you get yourself unstuck?"
"I-I dont know!"
He tried to pull his ankle out, but it wouldn't budge.
He looked back, and I did as well.
Ethan and his friends were super close now, and in seconds, they would catch us.
Chris looked back at me. "Ella, go!"
I shook my head, grabbing his arm. I wasn't leaving him.
"Please!"
I shook my head again, and he looked back at Ethan.
At the last second, before they reached us, Chris looked at me sadly, before pushing me off of the fence.
I fell beside Phil, who quickly helped me up.
"Phil, Run!" Chris should as they began to pull him away from the fence.
Phil grabbed my hand. "Come on, we have to get help!"
We began to run, as I watched them pull Chris off of the fence. One of them hit him directly in the face, and I looked down, tears welling up in my eyes.
Phil and I ran around the entire school building, entering in the front and running directly to the principal's office.
"Help!" Phil Shouted, running over to her desk.
She immediately stood. "What is it?"
"My friend, Chris! There's this guy and his friends attacking him!" He explained breathlessly as I pulled out my inhaler and used it, attempting to catch my breath.
"What are they doing outside at lunch?" She Asked.
"We eat out there, they followed us." Phil Said. "Please, we need to help him!"
She nodded, jogging out of the room. We followed her through the school to the back doors, where we all ran out.
Together, we ran to where the group of boys stood over Chris, who was fairly small compared to them.
"Enough!" The principal shouted, and all of the boys looked over, their eyes going wide. "Step away from him, now!"
They all backed up, revealing Chris who had his hand cupped over his eye.
I held my arms open, and Chris ran over to me.
I looked over his face, tapping his hand a little.
He winced, pulling it away from his eye. The side of his face was bloody and already bruised, but otherwise, he didn't have many bruises on his face. Anywhere else, though, I wasn't sure.
"Are you okay, Chris?" Phil Asked him.
He sniffled a little, rubbing his eyes. "I'm fine."
After the lunch hour was over, Phil and I went to our next class while they kept Chris with the school medic.
While I class, I didn't see Ethan or any of his friends, so I could only guess that they were with the principal.
Directly after math class, we had chemistry, but I wanted to check on Chris, first.
When I got to the medic's office, she still had Chris sitting in a chair as she checked on his swollen eye.
"Just keep ice on it, okay?" She asked him. "If it hurts badly, come back."
Chris nodded a little, before looking in my direction.
I waved a little, and his eyes lit up.
"Hi, Ella."
I smiled at him a little, walking into the room.
The nurse walked away, and Chris stood.
I pointed his eye, looking at him worriedly.
"Oh, I'm okay." He gave me a small smile. "I can actually come to class."
I nodded, before we both left the room, Chris mumbling a 'thank you' to the nurse.
As we walked to the the classroom, Chris sighed a little.
"They had me call my parents.." he mumbled.
I looked over at him, and he looked back at me, giving me a weak smile.
"They're protective of me.." he said quietly. "They want to talk when I get home."
He looked down, and it went back to being silent.
"I'm...sorry for throwing you over the fence." He said. "I just didn't want you to get hurt."
I gave him a small smile, patting his arm.
He looked up at me, his blue eyes full of worry. "Are you alright?"
I nodded, just as we reached the classroom.
He opened the door for me, smiling at me as he motioned for me to go inside.
"Ladies first." He giggled a little.
I smiled at him, playfully smacking his arm as I walked inside, Chris walking in behind me.
After school, I went to grab my things from my locker, Chris following closely behind me, of course.
When I looked over at him, he smiled widely.
"Hi." He giggled.
I waved a little, laughing silently.
As I reached my locker, I opened it up, grabbing a few things from inside and shoving them in my backpack. After shutting it, I began to make my way towards the doors, looking behind me to make sure Chris was still with me.
I wasn't quite sure why I wanted to make sure. I mean, he was his own person, he could go wherever he wanted.
For some odd reason, though, I felt safer when he was near me.
His gaze met mine, and he gave me a small smile. "Are you okay?"
I bit my lip, nodding before I pointed at his bruised eye.
"I've told you, don't worry," He gave me a reassuring smile. "I'm fine."
As we exited the school, I looked down at the ground as we walked.
There was silence for a bit, before Chris looked up at me again.
"Hey, Ella?" He asked.
I looked up and he bit his lip.
"Do you think you can come to my house?" His cheeks turned a light shade of pink as I stared at him for a moment.
What should I say? Joseph was still at work, so I mean, I didn't see the problem.
I swallowed a little, before nodding.
"Really?" His face lit up.
I nodded excitedly, and he smiled widely.
