Part 5

The tall man tied the boat to another dock when they reached the house. He lead the siblings inside. The entrance room had wood floors and was wallpapered with red flowers. A tree grew in the center, giving light. A staircase led upstairs.

"Welcome to Kronos House." The man said, unbuttoning the coat. A metal body was revealed. He bent at the waist, revealing that the body was being driven by a smaller. The driver pulled the hat and scarf off, revealing a small bipedal fox. He smiled at the two. "My name is Reynard."

"Hello. My name's Feather and this is my brother Lowell."

"It's a real honor to meet you miss." He shook her hand. His paw was metal and covered by what felt like fur. "Everybody can't wait to meet you." Reynard turned to lead the two upstairs. They entered a hallway.

"Here they come Theo." Another robot whispered. This one was human shaped, with bright lights for eyes. He was scuffed silver. Another robot, looking like a vaccum, watched them. "You can't be serious."

"Tempest knows what he's doing Terran." Reynard said as they passed. "Have respect."

They entered a blue bedroom. A medicine cabinet was in a corner, another robot- this one looking like a blue rabbit- messing with what looked like a heart monitor. But the bed dominated the room.

An old man slept there. He was dressed in a simple white sleep shirt and pants, his beard white as well.

"How is he doing?" Reynard asked.

The rabbit gulped. "He's getting weaker. He's also been sleeping for most of the day."

"Alright." Reynard left the siblings to introduce themselves to the robot, who was named Harris. He gently shook the old man's shoulder. "They're here sir."

The old man opened his eyes. They were brown, but had the clouding of cataracts. "Hello." he said. His eyes landed on Lowell first. "You must be my grandson."

The blonde boy nodded, walking up to the bed. "Hello. Are you Tempest?"

"Yes, my dear boy. I am. What is your name?"

"Lowell. She's my sister Feather." he said, pointing to his sister. She stared at her brother and great-grandfather, slowly walking over. She knelt next to the bedside, staring at their new relative. "We call her Fae."

He smiled at her, giving off an air of peaceful serenity. In his eyes, amusement twinkled. "Hello Fae."

"Hi." she managed out. "Do you know why we're here? Our mother..."

"Was stolen. Yes, I know."

"I was told you could help." she said.

"Ah, my dear, I've already have." Tempest stretched out a hand. The gem lit up, drifting into the air. "This talisman gives you the power to shape Ioriolan's future."

"Ioriolan?"

"An alternate version of your native Earth. As you grow stronger, you will learn more about it." He coughed, Lowell steadying him. "When I am gone, you will given a choice between power and being normal."

Feather shook her head. "But I don't want power. I just came here to get my mother back."

"She was not always so sad, was she?" Tempest said. Her brother shook his head. "Just wondering." He turned his attention back to the girl. "I have a theory that these stones have the power to go back in time and change things. Reynard."

The fox looked up. "Yes sir?"

"I have placed everything Feather needs to know in your memory banks. You will need to teach her."

"B-But I'm not ready-!"

"I built you ready!" the old man snapped. "My family needs you!" He glanced back at the siblings. "I have left gifts for you. Goodbye, Feather and Lowell Turner." He stared at the ceiling. "Time to die."

Then he stilled.

The silence was broken by the heart monitor going flat.

"Tempest?" Reynard whispered. He let out a scream, jumping onto the bed to start furiously shaking the body. Feather watched him in shock, feeling her brother bury his face in her shoulder. The wetness she could feel showed that he had started to cry. "You can't leave us!"

Harris stepped forward. "Nard. Stop."

"Please don't go..." the fox whispered, stopping his shaking. He turned to stare at Feather with blue eyes. She glanced at the other robot, who's eyes had turned blue as well.

"What?"

"It's up to you." the fox said. "Please don't turn away!"

Feather blinked. "Turn away...?" The lights flickered, then went out. A minute later, the talisman lit up with it's blue light. It revealed that the robots were slumped forward, turned off.

"Time to choose. If you accept the power, you can awaken a family that can help you bring back the rest of your family. But if you choose to turn away, you will be unable to find and rescue your mother alone."

"How do I accept?"

"Simply grab the gem."

"Don't." She looked up to meet Lowell's teary eyes. "I don't trust it."

"You heard what it said. We'll need their help." she said. Reaching out, Feather grabbed the gem.

"Wise choice..."

The lights flickered back on. Blue sparks jumped around Reynard and Harris. Their eyes opened. Harris let out a cheer as Reynard turned to her. "Thank you, Miss Fae." He sobered as he turned to Tempest. He shut his eyes. "Get a capsule ready."

"Alright." the other robot said.

"Come on."

Lowell frowned. "Why do I feel like you're leading us deeper into trouble?"

"Mom isn't here, so I'm in charge. Come on."
