Second Meeting
It was another day for Danica and her Pokemon.
She was in the garden harvesting her fruits and getting them cleaned.
Then Granny Dawn came by.
"Sweetie, you have a visitor. It's Sunny Day Jack!" She smiled.
Jack?
Well, it was Saturday, so he's off work.
Danica went over to the front.
And like Granny said, he was there.
"Hi Jack. What brings you here?"
"Ah, well, I've been wondering if you would like to hang out?" He smiled nervously.
"Eh? You mean ..... like a date?"
"Ah! Um well, if that's what you want to think..."
"Sure, I'm not busy tonight." Danica said.
Jack almost felt his heart leap out of his chest as she smiled with her answer.
"Great! How's seven?"
"Ok!"
He left with a spring in his step and Danica went over to Granny.
"He asked you on a date?! I guess it was about time. Poor Jack is always occupied with work and most of his friends married." She smiled.
"Yeah, but it'll be tonight at seven when he picks me up. And it'll be my first date. I'm not sure what to wear."
"Hmm. I think I have something from my prime, dearie."
-------------------
Later, Danica was sitting with Wigglytuff as Jack returned.
She was dressed in a vintage blue swing dress with a black belt around her waist.
Jack blushed at how cute she looked.
"Ah, you, you look lovely." He said.
"Thank you. You look dapper yourself." Danica said as Jack was now in a suit and dress shirt.
Jack smiled as they went into town.
---------
As they chatted, they exchanged some info on their lives.
"So you're the fourth oldest of your siblings?"
"Yeah, I have two older brothers, an older sister, a younger brother and a younger sister. Issac, June, Keoka, Aurora and Amaris. June's the youngest and Aurora and Amaris, the twins, are the oldest. Amaris is the firstborn. And my family is bigger than that."
"Really?"
Danica then took out a photo album and showed Jack a photo with her family and the Strawhats.
"That's me with my siblings. The ones with the highlights are Aurora and Amaris. Keoka has the curly black hair, Issac has the fluffy white hair, and June the one with silver hair. And those two are my parents." Danica said pointing to the two adults.
Jack could see the resemblance from them. Danica did look a lot like her dad while her mom had snow white hair and galaxy eyes.
"And this is Uncle Ace and Aunt Alina and their kids, Alexander, Xavier, and Rouge. And that's Uncle Sabo and Aunt Koala with their kids Sparrow and Swan.
And that's our Godparents, Law and Melissa, with their kids, Rosinante and Lami."
Then there were other photos of strange looking people.
"And who are they?"
"Oh, this is my dad's crew, the Strawhat Pirates."
Eh? Pirates? Her parents were pirates?
"But they were good pirates, they were peacemains. Peacemain pirates live for seeking adventure rather than treasure. Those that plunder and kill for pleasure are morganeers. There's a big difference."
"Huh. I didn't know that."
Then Danica proceeded to tell Jack more of her family.
The greenhaired male was named Zoro, a powerful swordsman, and user of the three sword style.
The orangette, Nami is an expert navigator that loves maps, tangerines and money.
The long-nose is Usopp, despite his penchant for tall tales, he is an expert sharpshooter.
The blonde male was Sanji, an expert cook and a master of kicking combat. He never used his hands in battle. And a bit of a flirt with the ladies. Although he had to back off after his captain married their horticulturalist.
Then there was the reindeer, Chopper. Jack almost thought he was a pet until Danica told him he was an expert doctor that could cure anything. And he never lost a patient.
The mature woman was Robin, an archeologist of high demand and very tricky if you're not careful around her.
Then Jack looked surprised when he saw Franky's photo. He was the shipwright and inventor of the crew. He also made the ship, The Thousand Sunny for the crew.
"Before the Thousand Sunny, the crew had the Going Merry but she was destroyed long before me and my siblings were born."
"Destroyed?"
".....It was long before my parents married...From what mom told me and my siblings, the crew really loved her and Merry was treated as part of the family..but things they got into got Merry broken many times. Even Uncle Zoro and dad got her wrecked a few times. Uncle Usopp worked tirelessly to patch her up...... Once they got to Water Seven where they met Uncle Franky..............they learned that Merry's keel was damaged and there's no way to replace a keel once it's broken. Uncle Usopp even quit the crew for a week over that."
"Really? What made him change his mind?" Jack asked.
"Aunt Robin gave herself up to the Government to protect them and they couldn't just leave her. They rescued her, and gave Merry a proper viking funeral. She was too good to be taken apart for scrap...........anyway, Uncle Usopp apologized, dad and the others welcomed him back, and they didn't fight like that again." Danica smiled.
"Well, I'm glad it worked out for them."
Then Jack got spooked when he saw the next person, Brook, was a literal skeleton! He had an afro, and Danica even told him he was a musician and big time rock star at one point.
The next was a fish-man named Jinbei, who became a pillar for Danica's dad and mom, and he was a veteran that worked hard in the co-existance and peace between merfolk and humans. It was thanks to Danica's mom it was finally possible.
Then there was the pink haired woman named Bonney, she was the youngest of the crew as she was actually 14 when she joined and was almost 10 when she became a pirate, but she had to get away from her enemies and it was her only option.
"Well, you mentioned that your mom is a Pokemon Trainer and current Monarch. What is that?"
"A Pokemon Trainer is A person who catches, trains, cares for, and battles with Pokémon. Short for Pocket Monsters, they have several fantastic powers such as the manipulation of elements/aspects of life, such as electricity or fire.
There are many that do not resemble animals at all, taking on other forms such as plants, inanimate objects, machines, human-like forms, or other more enigmatic and exotic appearances. Pokémon inhabit an extremely diverse range of habitats, ranging from the driest deserts to the lushest jungles, the deepest oceans to the highest mountains and everything else in between, even outer space and other dimensions. Pokémon take up various ways of living in those places.
However, all can be befriended and made into potential allies and share the ability to shrink down small enough to fit into a Poké Ball." Danica said as she took out one and demonstrated. "Come out, Ampharos!"
And her bipedal electric type Pokemon came out in greeting.
"Whoa!"
And to help him, Danica used her Pokedex.
"Ampharos, the Light Pokemon, an Electric-type and the evolved form of Flaaffy.
The orb on its tail can shine so bright that it can be seen from space. People have used the light as a beacon or to send signals across the ocean. In the olden days, one Ampharos was praised as a hero for using its light as a beacon for lost ships during a storm. These species have been treasured by sailors since."
"Amazing! Are all Pokemon this helpful?" Jack asked as he pet Ampheros, who squeaked happily.
"Most of the time, but some can be either mischievous or territorial. But they don't attack for no reason unless they feel in danger or threatened."
"So you were one of these trainers?"
"Oh, no. I'm a Master Pokemon coordinator. Pokémon coordinating is based on showing off Pokémon in visually impressive ways. It also refers to the act of raising Pokémon particularly for Pokémon Contests, rather than for regular battles. As a result, it provides Trainers with an alternative to the Badge-collecting quest, giving them a different look at the many charms of Pokémon, as well as a distinct method for interacting with them. Coordinators typically concern themselves with the outward appearances of their Pokémon. Because of this, they tend to give them special, condition-enhancing treats made out of Berries that keep them looking good. They also concentrate on the abilities of their Pokémon, teaching them appealing, attention-grabbing attacks that can be easily combined to grant them additional points when used in Pokémon Contests.
Coordinators travel across one or more regions, competing in Pokémon Contests and collecting Ribbons to win the Grand Festival to receive the Ribbon Cup and the title of Top Coordinator. In a similar way to how a Pokémon Trainer needs to collect eight Gym Badges to participate in the Pokémon League Conference, a Pokémon Coordinator needs to garner five Contest Ribbons to compete in the Grand Festival. However, since a Pokémon Contest is an event that occurs within a given period of time, Coordinators get just one chance to earn a certain Ribbon.
A typical Pokemon Contest has two stages:
In the first round, Coordinators need to showcase their Pokémon's charms to appeal to the judges, by displaying an array of moves that bring out the very best in their Pokémon while captivating the audience with showiness. The second round consists of single-elimination Contest Battles, where Coordinators and Pokémon are judged on the style of their moves and the way they are able to dodge their opponents' attacks. In a competition featuring the Double Performance format, Coordinators are required to show off two Pokémon at once.
Because their Pokémon have to make a good first impression right out of the Poké Ball, Coordinators in Sinnoh are also supplied upon registration with a Ball Capsule and a few Seals, which can be used to create a showy entrance.
Ribbons are awarded by the Chief of the Pokémon Activities Committee, Raoul Contesta, and once a Coordinator collects five Ribbons, they are able to enter the Grand Festival and compete for the title of Top Coordinator. Ribbons do not expire, and multiple years can be used to collect the five needed for the Grand Festival. However, after being used to enter the competition, the five Ribbons cannot be used again.
Then there is the Grand Festival. The competition marks the end of a region's Pokémon Contest circuit and gives rise to a new Top Coordinator.
The general structure of each Grand Festival tournament is similar: Pokémon Coordinators must register for a Contest Pass, something which they can do at any Contest Hall, and then must collect at least five Ribbons in order to become eligible to enter the competition. The winner is awarded the title of Top Coordinator and given the Ribbon Cup as proof of their achievement.
In contrast with regular Pokémon Contests, where contestants have to use the same Pokémon for the entire Battle Stage, Coordinators in the Grand Festival are allowed to switch Pokémon between battles. As a result, contestants have the opportunity to showcase their full party throughout the competition. Another distinguishing aspect is that Grand Festival tournaments have more judges in attendance to evaluate the work presented by the large number of Coordinators taking part in the event.
The Grand Festival is divided in two stages: one focuses on performances, which can be either single or double, and the other revolves around two-on-two Contest Battles.
In the Performance Stage, Pokémon Coordinators show off their Pokémon's unique moves in order to impress the judges and the audience. The performances are awarded points by a panel of judges, and the Coordinators with the highest scores proceed to the next stage.
In the tournaments held in Hoenn and Kanto, this stage is further divided in two rounds. In the first one, known as the preliminary round, Coordinators have one of their Pokémon performing with no more than one move used one time. The 64 highest-scoring contestants advance to the second round, where they are allowed to use as many moves as necessary to showcase the charms of their Pokémon. Contrasting this, the tournament taking place in Sinnoh has just one round reserved for performances, during which Coordinators must showcase two Pokémon at once as the competition is held under the Double Performance rule.
The number of Coordinators advancing to the Battle Stage varies. In Hoenn and Sinnoh, 32 contestants will move on to compete in single-elimination Contest Battles, while in Kanto, only the 16 best scorers will be allowed to show their battling capabilities.
In the Battle Stage, Pokémon Coordinators are randomly matched-up by a computer up to the semifinals. The battles adhere to the Double Battle format and victory goes to the Coordinator whose attacks most effectively lower the opponent's points within the five-minute time limit. A battle will also end due to judges ruling Battle Off when understanding that both of a contestant's Pokémon are unable to battle, or when they perceive that the one standing after its partner has been previously knocked out can no longer continue.
Contestants move up the brackets in single-elimination style. Highly skilled Coordinators move on to compete with a smaller pool of contestants, and each losing Coordinator is placed accordingly. After a winner is decided, they are bestowed the title of Top Coordinator and awarded the Ribbon Cup." Danica explained.
"Whoa, that sounds like a lot of work." Jack said astonished.
Danica had a thoughtful look and turned to Jack. "You want to see an example with Ampheros? He's one of my best."
Jack looked at Danica in surprise and smiled.
"Sure!"
They went to a clearing outside of town and Danica set up a seal for the Pokeball.
"Alright, Ampheros! Spotlight time!"
And Ampheros spun out before posing with electricity around it in a ring.
"Alright, Electric Terrain with Swift!"
And Ampharos did so with the stars gaining electricity.
"Make the stars bounce with Reflect and aim them to the sky!"
And the glass Reflect had the stars move in different directions going higher and higher until Danica had them stop above Ampheros.
"Alright, wrap this up with a Dazziling Gleam and Power Gem combo! Dazzle Gem Beam!"
Ampheros aimed the combo attack at the falling stars, breaking them apart and creating a dazzling shower of glitter and sparks on the field.
Jack was astounded. "Amazing! Bravo!" He clapped.
"Thanks! You too Ampheros. Take a rest." She said returning her friend to his Pokeball.
Then Jack looked over at Wigglytuff. "Hey, can I see Wigglytuff do a performance too?"
"Sure!"
"Wiggly!"
After returning Wigglytuff to his Pokeball, Danica was ready again.
"Wigglytuff! Take the stage!"
And Wigglytuff appeared with stars and ribbons from his Pokeball as he posed.
"First up, Bubble Beam followed by Misty Terrain and Dazziling Gleam!"
Wigglytuff did so, creating a scene of sparkling bubbles.
"Now brighten the day with Sunny Day and shoot out a Water Pulse in the air!"
Following the command, The combination of Sunny Day and Water Pulse created an illusion of a Rainbow, which then bounced off the bubbles.
"Alright! Wrap this up with Ice Beam and Swift!"
And with Ice Beam, the bubbles were all popped and released rainbow sparkles and stars like rain.
Jack was impressed.
"Amazing! I can see how you and your Pokemon are so good at this!"
"Thanks!"
After they walked and talked some more, it was getting late.
"Thanks for a great night, Jack. Hope to see you again." Danica smiled and she gave him a kiss on the cheek.
He was a very happy clown.
