Extra #1
Fury's POV
"Swift! Swift, where are you buddy?"
I was walking around the village, trying to find my dog. He never went too far.
"Hey Zip!" I called out as I saw my friend. "Do you know where Swift is?"
"Don't know Fury. I haven't seen him," she answered. "Dax has asked me to help train the kids today. Wanna come?"
"I want to find Swift," I said hesitantly.
"Come on Fury. He always comes back. Just relax for a while," Zip reasoned.
I sighed, knowing that Zip was right. "Okay, I'll come."
We walked side by side to the centre of the village. It was a big open space, used for many things, such as a market place, a show and a meeting place. Today, we were using it as a training ground. There were about 20 kids there, ranging from ages 13 to 19. Dax was at the front, addressing them. Zip walked to her side while I stayed at the edges of the ground.
The kids were spilt up into groups of two by Dax. They mock fought each other with wooden practice weapons, with Dax and Zip walking among them, correcting technique as they went. I scanned the faces of the kids. I saw Brice, Jordan, Max, Jason and Dan, but there was one person I couldn't find. Ty.
I wondered if he was sick, but discarded the notion immediately. Even if he was sick, he would still turn up. He was dedicated to learning, and he would be here even just to look. Worry started to grow in my mind. I took a walk around the village, seeing if I could find him. I visited his house, but his adoptive parent said that he had gone for a walk around the village that morning.
I went back to the training ground, wondering where Ty was. No one had seen him since his morning walk. Training had finished, so I talked to Dax and Zip about my worries.
"I'm sure his fine Fury," Dax reassured. "He's not a small boy anymore. He is 13 years old!"
"I know, I know," I sighed. "I'm just worried."
Zip rolled her eyes. "Come on Fury. Let's take a walk in the forest."
She half dragged, half pulled me to the forest. The forest always calmed me down. It was familiar to me, and it brought back a lot of nice memories. But I wasn't feeling it today. I kept my eyes on the ground, scuffing my shoes on the ground.
"Fury, just relax!" Zip repeated for the millionth time. "I'm sure Ty's just fi..."
Her sentence was cut off by me dropping to the ground suddenly. My hand traced an almost invisible indent in the ground.
"What?" Zip asked, not seeing anything.
"Tracks."
Zip shrugged. "So what? There's plenty of tracks here."
"No, no, you don't get it. These tracks are different," I insisted.
She huffed. "Fine. What's so interesting about them?"
I looked up slightly, following the tracks with my eyes. "There were two people. One of them was dragging the other. You can tell by these scrapes." I pointed to said scrapes. I looked over my shoulder and spotted something else. "Look," I said, pointing.
Zip walked over to it. "They look like paw prints." She followed the trail a few steps. "Look! This paw print only has three toes." She met my eyes. "Do you think it's Swift?"
I nodded. Swift had only three toes on one of his feet instead of four, due to an accident he had when he was a pup. Zip followed the trail a few more steps before stopping.
"The trail's stopped."
I looked at it. The paw prints stopped when they got close to the scrapes. "I'm gonna follow these tracks," I told Zip.
Zip nodded. She didn't try to change my mind: She knows I'm veeery stubborn. "I'll go get your swords."
We parted ways, and I continued along the tracks. Whoever was being dragged had smaller feet than a grown person. I started having suspicions about who the person was. I followed the tracks until I came to a hole in the ground, just large enough for a fully grown person to slip into. I went close to the edge, then lay down and peeked over the top. The sunlight only just reached the bottom of the hole, 10 metres below. I couldn't clearly see what was down there.
"Ty? Swift? You guys down there?" I called.
"Fury!" a voice called back.
"Ty!"
"Yeah! How'd you find us?"
"I followed the tracks. Is Swift with you?" I heard a bark in response.
"Yeah he's here."
"Are either of you hurt?"
"I can't really tell if Swift's hurt," Ty explained. "But I can't move my right leg."
I was about to reply when some sixth sense told me to move. I instantly rolled to the side, just missing the axe that was about to hit my head. I rolled to a standing position and faced my would-be killer. I couldn't tell what he looked like due to the bandanna that covered his face and the wrap-around sunglasses he wore. But he wielded a large double-bladed axe like it was a toy. My hands went to my swords on my back, but they found nothing.
Right.
I didn't have my swords.
The axeman swung at me again and I danced out of the way. He tried to hit me again and again I dodged. The process repeated itself several times. He swung, I moved. The axeman's strokes got faster, and I only concentrated on dodging the blade of death. I dodged and lost my balance slightly as my foot slipped on the edge of the hole. I tittered on the edge for a second, almost regained my balance. But then the axeman pushed me and I fell down the hole.
I screamed on my way down, my hands failing. One of them hit a vine, and I grabbed it for dear life. It burned my hands as my momentum carried me, but I stopped after a few seconds. I looked up, and saw the hole far above.
"Fury?" Ty called out hesitantly. "Are... are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good," I replied. As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I could see a figure of a boy, with a dog beside him a few metres below. I worked my way down the vine and dropped to the floor. Swift came up to me, licking my face in pleasure.
"Swift, stop it!" I laughed as I pat him. I felt some liquid on his fur and he yelped. "You've got a cut there haven't you bud?" I couldn't tell how bad it was in the dark.
I gently pushed Swift off me and walked over to Ty, who was sitting on the floor.
"You okay?" I asked.
I saw him nod in the semi-darkness. He rubbed his arms, obviously cold in his short sleeved shirt. I took off my jumper and put it on him, taking a look at his leg. It was definitely broken. It proves how tough Ty was since he wasn't screaming, or at least crying. It must have hurt a lot.
"I'll see if I can do something for your leg," I told him. I took a quick look around the hole. There was a reasonable sized branch that had fallen down, and I picked it up and brought it to Ty. It was a bit shorter than his leg, but it would do. I put it against his broken leg and tied them together with a short length of vine that was on the ground.
"Are we stuck Fury?" Ty asked worriedly when I finished.
"For now, yes," I answered in my truthful way, sitting beside him.
"How will they find us?"
"I'm hoping that they'll get Zano."
Zano and Tim were staying at the village for a few weeks while the kid they found settles in. Zano was a great tracker, almost as good as me. Almost. After all, he didn't live alone in a forest for several years.
"How long will they take?"
"I don't know."
Ty, Swift and I waited. I don't know how long we waited for because I couldn't see the sun. To pass the time, I told Ty stories. I told him about my brother, the Butter Kingdom that Zip and I visited a few years ago and the time that Swift went swimming. Man, that was hilarious. Ty laughed and so did I. Swift didn't. He gave me a dirty look.
"What did I miss?" I heard a voice call from above.
"Zano? Is that you?" I called back.
"Oh, hey Fury! Who's your buddy?"
"Ty and Swift. They're both down here," I said. "Be careful. There's a guy with a double bladed axe hanging around. He's the one who threw us down here." Ty had told me earlier that the man had dragged him here and threw him down.
"Okay." I heard Zano saying something to someone else, and the faint sounds of swords being unsheathed reached us. "Dax and Zip are with me. Are you guys hurt?"
"Ty's broken his leg, Swift has a cut on his side and I've burnt my hands. Apart from that, we're good."
"How are we gonna get you guys out?"
"No idea. I was hoping you had an answer."
"Hm," Zano said, thinking. "Is there anything down there that we could use?"
"There's some vines to your right, my left," I told him. "I don't know if they reach the very top, so they might not be useful."
"Oh yeah, I see them. Dax, any ideas?"
Dax said something to him that I couldn't hear properly.
"How far are the vines from this hole?" Zano asked.
"Uh, it's hard to tell from down here, but I'd say about a metre."
Zano relayed the message to Dax. "Okay, hang on!"
"What are you planning Dax?" I asked suspiciously.
Zano and Dax have had some pretty weird, random and dangerous ideas before. My question was answered by Zano jumping into the hole. He quickly reached out and grabbed the vines, managing to only fall about two metres. He climbed up the vine, wrapped it around his left arm and grabbed the vine beside him. He pulled out a knife with his right hand and started chopping the vine from the ceiling.
"This vine is really think Dax!" he called. "You sure it's still gonna work?"
"Yes Zano, it's gonna work!" Dax yelled from above.
Zano finished chopping the vine and quickly put away the knife to grab it with both his hands. "Alright, here it comes!"
Dax poked her head in the hole and held her hands out. Zano swung the vine higher and higher until Dax grabbed it and pulled the end out. She disappeared and I heard her saying something to Zip. A few seconds later, she reappeared and Zano swarmed up the vine.
"Fury! Can you reach the end of the vine?" he called out.
I ran to the end of the vine, and saw it almost touched the floor. "Yeah."
"Okay. Grab onto the end and we'll pull you up."
I called Swift over to me and I securely tied him in the vine. "Swift is ready to go up. If you hurt him, you'll never hear the end of it!" I warned.
"Got it!" Zano replied. He pulled on the vine and Swift slowly ascended, barking and growling all the way. He disappeared over the edge and his barking stopped. The vine was thrown back down.
"Come on Ty, your turn," I said, holding my hand out.
It took some time, but I eventually got him securely tied to the vine.
"Okay Zano, Ty's ready. Hold on tight, remember his broken leg!" I called.
"Yep! Dax, give me a hand."
Dax and Zano held onto the vine, and Ty was slowly and carefully lifted into the air. He shut his eyes tight as the ground disappeared below him and the light drew closer. Zip was waiting at the top and she carefully lifted Ty up when he reached the surface, being careful of his broken leg. When he was safe at the top, the vine was thrown back down. I made a loop at the end of it, and tested it with my weight. Satisfied that it was secure, I put my foot in it, held onto the vine and was lifted up by Dax and Zano. Thankfully, I was smaller and lighter for my age, so it wasn't too hard to lift me up. I reached the surface, dusted myself of and made sure that Swift and Ty reached the surface safe. Ty's leg didn't look too bad in the light, and Swift's cut was only a surface wound.
"Alright," Dax said. "Let's go home."
So, a little story for you guys about what happened after the main story finished. I'll probably do a few of these, I'm not sure. Sorry if it isn't great quality writing, it's really hard to do an entire story in a single chapter.
And I know that you guys never found out who bandanna-man is. That's kind of the point.
