25: Mysterious helper
Luke's POV
I woke up with an aching neck, cramped legs and a dog licking my face.
"Arg! Wolf go away!" I said, trying to wipe the slobber off my face.
"Wolf, come here." The dog obediently stopped licking my face and padded over to Fury. She was sitting against the wall, her right hand around her knees and her left hand beckoning Wolf and patting him when he lay down at her side.
"Hey Fury. How are you?" I asked, pulling myself to a sitting position and wiping the left-over slobber off my face.
"I'm fine. Good sleep?" she quietly replied.
"Yeah it was okay." I looked outside the windows set in the door. "How early is it?"
"It's almost sunrise." Fury didn't look at me.
"Are you okay Fury?" She seemed preoccupied with something.
"Just...bad dream," she said uncomfortably.
"Okay. I'm gonna explore a bit then." I stood up, grabbed my sword and quietly walked to the door.
"Be careful, not all the mobs would have despawned," she warned.
I nodded and went out the door. I started walking in a random direction, making sure that I marked trees so I knew the way back. The forest was quiet and surprisingly, there were no mobs around. I had expected one or two stranglers but they all seemed to have vanished. I also found something else that was strange: a chest.
There was nothing around the chest, no weapons or building materials or redstone. I wandered around it, trying to see why it was put there. Then curiosity won over safety and I opened it. I had expected to see some wood, maybe a stone sword or some old food. But all I saw was a glowing purple book, an anvil, a map and a diamond pickaxe. I took all of these items out, studying them. There was something special about the book but I didn't know what it was. The map had a red line drawn on it, like directions. I took them all back to our temporary shelter. Everyone was awake and eating breakfast when I opened the door.
"LUKE! Fury told us you went off! Where did you go?" Jade rushed to me and punched me in the arm.
"Ow! Jade, calm down bro! I just went for a walk, I had my sword."
Jade huffed. "Next time just tell me okay? I don't want you to get hurt."
I agreed and grabbed an apple to eat. "Alex, I found something," I mumbled through a mouthful of apple. I gave him the book and he gasped.
"Where did you find this Luke?" he asked, flicking through it.
"In a chest. It was just sitting there."
"Do you know what this is?" We all shook our heads. Alex seemed shocked at our lack of understanding. "It's an enchantment book for Silk Touch II!"
"How is that possible? Can't you only get them from those two guys?" Fury questioned.
"From Enirboreh and Hcton yes. But this is defiantly a Silk Touch II book."
"So we don't need to find them any more. All we need to do is craft a pickaxe and enchant it." Zip looked relieved.
"Wait, I found a pickaxe too!" I remembered, pulling out the diamond pickaxe and the anvil.
Alex suddenly looked suspicious. "You found the three things we needed in a chest that was randomly in the middle of the woods."
"Yup."
"It wasn't a trap?'"
"Nope." I had an idea. "Do you think one of the guys left it for us?"
"Maybe they want to help us!" my brother exclaimed.
"But why wouldn't they give it to us directly?" Alex questioned.
"I don't know. There might be a rule to not interfere?" Jade suggested.
"But why didn't they at least leave a note or something?"
"That doesn't matter," Zip interrupted. "We have everything we need. Alex, can you enchant that pickaxe?"
Alex nodded and placed down the anvil I gave him. While he enchanted the pickaxe and everyone else started packing up the camp, I took out the map and looked at it. The red line started in a forest and moved north-easterly, coming to the middle of a field near a mountain.
"What do you have there Luke?" Fury asked.
"I found it in the chest. It's a map to somewhere from somewhere." I held it out for her to see. She traced the line with her finger.
"I think the line starts where we are now and it ends near the centre of Minecraftia."
"Should we follow it?"
"Since it was probably left by Enirboreh or Hcton, I think we should."
"What's this?" Tim had noticed Fury and I chatting quietly to each other. Fury held up the map.
"Luke found a map in the chest. We were thinking that we should follow it," she said.
Tim agreed and so did Zip, Alex and Jade when we told them. Zip led the way, saying that she had experience in reading maps. At lunch time, I saw a dark blue beacon rising up into the sky.
"Fury, isn't that the centre of Minecraftia?" I asked, pointing to it.
She looked to where I was pointing. "Yup. Doesn't that mean we're close Zip?" she called to the front of the line.
"Yeah, just a few more minutes I think," Zip called back.
It ended up taking us 20 minutes. There was nothing there, so we looked around, thinking that we were in the wrong place. Then Tim got an idea.
"What if we need to dig down?" He suggested.
Because we had nothing else to do, we quickly crafted several stone pickaxes (We didn't want to use the enchanted diamond one) and started digging down (No, we didn't dig straight down, we're not idiots). When we got to level 32, Tim dropped a few blocks into a Stronghold. One by one we followed him, weapons ready.
"Where should we go?" I asked, looking down the several pathways.
"Let's pick one at random. And don't split up, there's mobs around," Zip ordered. I heard zombies groaning nearby and I shuddered.
We started walking down the many passages, finding mobs and chests. We came across a few fountains, a library that had cobwebs everywhere and rooms with stone pillars. We came across one room that we hadn't seen before. It wasn't a big room but it had two stairs leading to a platform. Silverfish were spawning and there was lava on the sides of the room and in the middle. Fury quickly killed the Silverfish while Tim destroyed the spawner.
"Hey guys, I think we found it," Tim said.
"What is it?" I asked as I went up the steps. I saw 12 blocks that had a green top arranged in a 3x3 square. All of them except the one in front of me had Eyes of Ender in them.
"Ender Portal," Alex whispered as he came and stood beside me.
Tim picked up something from the floor. "And I think I've found the last Eye of Ender." He held up a blue and green ball that had a black line in the middle, like an eye.
"Okay, everyone put on your diamond armour. Fury, block up that doorway," Zip commanded. Fury obediently blocked the entrance with cobblestone and we took off our iron armour and put on our enchanted diamond ones. I got my sword ready, my hand sweaty. The others were also nervous: Alex was plucking his bow string uncertainly and Fury was fumbling slightly with Wolf's helmet. Zip was calm and collected as always but her eyes were darting around.
"Ready?" She asked. I swallowed and nodded. Tim picked up the Eye of Ender and put it in the block. Instantly, a black portal opened.
"On three," Zip said. We all lined up on the edge. Zip was at the front, I was on her left, then Jade was next to me, and Tim was next to him. Fury was on Zip's right and Wolf was by her side. Alex took the spot beside Tim and Wolf.
"One."
"Two."
"Three!"
I took a deep breath and jumped into the black portal.
The battle with the Ender Dragon had begun!! I'll probably spilt the battle into two parts. What do you guys think will happen next?
