16: Adlucinatio
Tim's POV
"Hanna? Sis?"
"Hello Tim."
"How...how?" I was lost for words. In front of me was my sister, who had died at the village. "How did you escape the fire and the mobs?"
"Mum told me to run. I ran here." Hanna walked closer to me.
"But I saw your body."
Hanna shifted slightly. 'It must have been someone else."
"Is it really you?"
"Yes, it is me. Come here Tim. Give me a hug." Hanna opened her arms. I got off my horse but stayed on the path.
"Come with us Hanna. You'll be safe. We'll be together and I'll never leave you again."
"Who is 'us'?"
"My friends. You remember Zip, Alex and the twins."
Hanna shook her head. 'Oh Tim, they have abandoned you."
"What? No, they would never..." But when I looked around, I saw that the fog was gone. And so had all my friends. "They...They wouldn't have... just...left me."
"Come here Tim. We can live here. Mum's here too. And Dad."
My parents came out from behind Hanna. They were exactly as I remember them. Mum had long blond hair like Hanna and dad had black hair like me. My family was here, alive.
"Come Tim. We will be safe here."
I stepped closer to Hanna.
"Tim." My dad said.
I took another step closer.
"Tim." My dad repeated.
My dad sounds like Alex. I took another step, almost off the edge of that path.
"Tim! Snap out of it!" Something slimy grabbed my hand. I screamed and tried to yank my hand away from the thing.
"Tim! Snap out of it for Notch's sake!" The thing raised it's other hand and hit me hard on the head. The blow reverberated, hurting my head and making my vision blurry. When my eyesight cleared, Alex was standing before me, clutching my shoulders.
"Tim! Tim!"
"Alex! You're here! You didn't leave! My family, they're here!"
"No Tim. Look!"
I turned back to Hanna. Only to see three slimy, scaly beasts. They looked vaguely human, but they were a sickly shade of green. The scariest thing was their faces; the face was slightly fluid and I could see the faces of the people I used to know.
I stepped back, shocked. Alex shook my shoulders to get my attention.
"Listen. They pretend to be someone that you know and then lure you off the path. We have to get the others and get out of here. Don't believe anything you see or anything you hear. Get Zip. She was behind you." Alex turned and ran the other way into the fog that had appeared again. I went back along the path. Whispers came to me, promising safety, riches, a family, a home. I tried to ignore them but they continued, growing louder and louder.
I stumbled in the fog, being careful to stay on the path. I almost tripped over Zip, who was huddled on the ground, hands over her ears, mumbling to herself. I knelt down and called her name.
"Zip. It's me, Tim."
"No, you're not real. I won't listen."
"Zip, I'm real. We need to go."
"Nononononono. You can't make me. You can't make me."
"Zip, they're illusions. We need to get out of here, just follow me." I gripped Zip's arm and pulled her up. She didn't support her own weight but she didn't try to pull away either.
I dragged her up the path until I came to Alex. He was holding Jade while Fury was holding Luke. Jade and Luke were struggling slightly and Fury was breathing hard like she had been sprinting and her eyes were darting around.
"We need to get out of here," Alex stated.
"Where have the horses gone?" I asked.
"They must have wandered off. We'll have to walk."
"We have to run." Fury was close to tears. "The things are getting stronger. We have to run."
"Okay. Run."
Alex, Fury and I started sprinting, dragging Zip and the twins behind us. As we got further away, they seemed to realise that it was all an illusion. We were running in a line, looking down at our feet, ignoring the things that were whispered to us.
Hours upon hours we ran through the fog, until we could barely breathe and our sides were aching, and but we didn't stop running. By the time we made it on the other side of the valley, we were worn out, both physically and mentally.
Everyone collapsed, no one had the energy to get out food or to eat or to make a shelter. I closed my eyes, ready to fall asleep.

My eyes snapped open at the sound. They were familiar, and they were sounds everyone dreaded to hear. I stood up and very slowly grabbed my axe.
"Guys. Get up. Now."
"Tim, we're tired," Fury groaned.
"If we sleep, we're dead."
They stood up and saw what I saw. One by one they handled their weapons, fear written all over their faces.
We couldn't fight, we were too tired. The only one who looked like he could stand a chance against them was Wolf.
Because there were mobs. A lot of mobs.
And they surrounded us.
It's the second last day of summer! WOOOO! I'm not really a summer person, I much prefer autumn and winter.
Little note: Adlucinatio is Latin for illusion.
