10: Wolf

Fury's POV

I finally reached my tree. I leaped up to the top and build a 3 block bridge, stretching from my tree to the one I had come from. I mentally reminded myself to chop down these bridges. Don't want the mobs to get up here. The girl, Zip, reached the bridge first and climbed up. Jade, Luke and Tim were next. I knelt, ready in case Jade or anyone else fell off. No one did, thankfully.

"Okay, should be easier from here on out," I said as I stood up and walked to the centre of the tree. I broke a few of the leaves, revealing a wooden staircase going down. I gave the leaves to the boy with the bow who had come across the bridge last. "Seal it up after us."

I lead the way down the stairs that wound down the trunk of the massive tree. At the bottom was a wooden door. I pushed it open.

"Sit down on the couch there." I pointed to the couch I had made myself.

"Wow. Is this your home?" Luke asked as he helped Jade sit down.

"Yeah. I made most of it myself."

"WHAT? This entire thing?!" he said, looking up. The middle of the tree was hollow. There were 4 levels. I didn't even need the upper two, they were just there.

"I only made the top 3 levels by myself. Now, as for that ankle..."

A growling interrupted me. The growl, low at first, grew in pitch and volume. Suddenly, a white streak shot from a hole in the wall and launched itself at Alex. Using reactions enhanced by years living alone in the forest, I grabbed the collar of the dog. The dog snapped and wiggled in my grip.

"Easy Wolf, calm down boy. These are friends."

Wolf, my pet dog, stopped growling. I let go of his collar and he lay down beside me, relaxed now that he knew I was not in danger.

I looked at Alex, slightly embarrassed. "Sorry. Wolf is pretty protective."

He just shrugged, but he didn't take his eyes off Wolf.

Great. I thought. Now they don't trust me. Not that they did before.

"Anyway, I have a potion in the basement that will heal your ankle Jade."

"This place has a basement too!" Luke was shocked.

I nodded. "I'll... go get the potion."

Signalling for Wolf to follow me, I stepped down the cobblestone stairs . Behind me the others talked. I sighed and looked down at Wolf.

"Thanks Wolf. Now you've given them another reason to not trust me."

Wolf just looked at me and smiled.

"Don't smile Wolf. Go open the door."

He ran ahead and touched one of the blocks with his paw. A door opened and we walked into our basement. I opened a chest and rummaged through it.

Come on. I'm sure I had one.... Here!

Pulling out a glass bottle filled with pink liquid, I ran back upstairs and gave it to Jade.

"Here Jade. It's a Healing potion."

Jade drank the potion and his ankle healed instantly. "Thanks Fury."

"No problem."

Alex cleared his throat. "Hey uh Fury, have you been to the Nether?"

Weird and completely random question. "Um, no?"

"So how did you get the netherwart to brew that potion?"

Phew, he was just wondering about the potion. "My brother and I killed a skeleton who had one for some reason. We started a farm here."

"You have a brother?" he guy called Tim asked.

Oh no.

Don't ask.

Please don't ask.

"Where is he?"

He asked.

Don't cry Fury, don't cry. Don't think about him.

I was about to cry.

Well fine, if you're going to cry, then don't let them see. Get away from them.

"I...I've got to get something." And I ran off to my room.
