Part 2 of Legroom (Toby x Reader)
Breaking up with Draal had been shockingly easy.
Neither of you had actually expected your relationship to go anywhere, but hey, five months of dating still does something to a girl, right? Well, you felt incredibly lightheaded and happy all of a sudden.
And with the added bonus of being on... Good terms with Toby... Everything felt great.
You walked with the rest of the human portion of team Trollhunter, letting Claire and Jim walk ahead of you, hand in hand, not even looking at each other... GHHHHHHH it was far too cute and you WANTED that.
But with Toby... Of course.
For Claire and Jim, it was easy. Of course, discounting the fact that Jim's mom was In Trollmarket and Strickler had bound his life to her. But even to spite the fact that Angor Rot was close to killing them both? They still had faith and love in each other.
You glanced at Toby with a small smile and he glanced back, smiling at you and brushing your hand with the back of his. You squeezed the strap of your side bag with your opposing hand, wishing you could squeeze his hand too.
It had been your idea to keep your relationship secret for a little while, not wanting your enemies to know that you deeply cared about this sweet boy. You pressed your hand into your pocket and lowered your voice to speak to him.
"Wanna snog when we get back to Trollmarket?"
Toby let out a muffled laugh and shook his head ", You are in fact disgusting, but yes, I would really, really like that."
You smiled softly and continued to walk, a small smile on your face and your bag thumping peacefully against your hip. Toby hummed to himself as the group slowly walked down the concrete walls underneath the bridge. Claire was always holding onto the Horngazel, keeping it carefully tucked into her bag, and it made you nervous.
You had suggested many, many times that you all take turns with the key, but you had been outvoted.
"Sorry (Y/n), but Claire is probably the hardest to deal with out of all of us."
You'd agreed to that much, but the idea still made you nervous.
And within half a second, the gate to Trollmarket was opened. Jim and Claire stepping through first, Toby following, and then yourself. You pressed your fingers to Toby's back and ran them down his spine, quickly.
Toby jerked and gave you a playful glare, attempting to swipe at your hand from behind him.
You moved too quickly for him, dropping your bag intentionally from your shoulder. You always kept it far too full nowadays, with books and pencils that could spill all over the place and give you both a little free time together.
You let out a groan and knelt, listening as Toby insisted that Claire and Jim go ahead, Check on Mrs Lake, he would help you out. You moved slowly as he knelt across from you, then quickly shoved the items in your bag.
"Thank Daya..." You muttered under your breath.
"I know, right? They move so slow-" Toby groaned as he took your now freed hands in his. You pressed a hand to his cheek and leaned forward, pressing your lips against his and running your thumb over his cheek.
You felt Toby smile against your lips and pull you close to him, leading your hands around his back and neck, you obliged and pulled him closer to your own body. This was your favorite part of your secret little rendezvous, sure you wished that you both could be a little more public, like going to the movies or something like that. But it wasn't an option.
Not yet at least.
Toby pressed into you, his hands reaching out and pressing against your shoulders and down your back.
It felt like butterfly wings sprouting from your spine.
When Toby pulled away, you smiled at him, returning one hand to his cheek and letting out a small but content smile.
"Getting better, Tp."
Toby groaned and shook his head playfully, pressing you away from him.
"That's it, no more kisses-" He scolded, but not in a mean or harsh way, just playing with you.
"Ha ha, as if you would last-"
Toby shrugged and grinned at you, "Yeah, you're right."
You started to stand, pulling Toby up with you, but as you stood, he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you close. You let out a small yelp and pat the base of his head with one hand, brushing his hair at the back of his neck. But the boy didn't stop there, pressing his chin against your chest and resting there.
"Oh, you- Getting bolder?" You raised your hand farther up his head and shook your head.
"A little- Testing the waters-"
You laughed and lifted his head towards yours with both hands.
"Just kiss me already, will you?"
Toby laughed and raised himself up on his tip-toes, pressing his mouth against yours once more. Kissing had gotten far more frequent in both of your lives. You would have been lying if you said that you didn't enjoy it...
Even if you enjoyed it a little too much.
Toby ran his hand up the back of your neck, twining his fingers into your hair and giving it a small tug. You smirked into the kiss and returned the favor, nipping his bottom lip with your teeth, tugging back with the smallest bit of force. Toby let out a sound halfway between a whimper and a sigh.
Toby pulled back with a smile aimed at you and you alone.
You smirked and pressed a kiss to his forehead, "We should get going before the others wonder where we are-"
"Yeah- That's a good idea," The redhead boy grins at you ", Let's get going then."
You roll your eyes, taking his hand and giving a slight squeeze around his fingers. Then you let go of him. His hand lingered in the air for a fraction of a second and then lowered to his side. You gave him a small smile and leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his cheek and standing again.
Toby chuckled slightly and started down the crystal stairs that led deep into Troll Market, you followed with long and slow strides so that you and he were walking at the same pace. Toby kept glancing at you, almost in a nervous way that you really couldn't understand.
Until he spoke that is.
"So... Question-" He drew out his words so that it felt too long.
"Ask, I might have an answer for you-" You chuckle slightly and shake your head.
Toby gave a half-hearted laugh and looked up at you ", Do you... Maybe want to go to the Spring Fling with me?"
You glanced at him and smiled, passing a few stands in the center of Trollmarket in the direction of the Hearthstone, and you placed a hand on his shoulder.
"With everything going on right now, Spring Fling was the last thing on my mind, but if we make it out of all this crap in time? Yes, I do want to go with you."
He smiled sheepishly and kept that smile on his face. You continued walking until the both of you reached the Hearthstone, Jim and Claire standing outside with Vendel, both having upset expressions on their faces. You frowned and jogged ahead of Toby, reaching them.
"-Strickler claims the reversion to the binding spell in your human school- And I fear that neither of them has much time."
You grit your teeth and call out ", I'll get it! I can get it!"
And as expected, Toby called out too ", I'll go too! Two heads are better than one!"
Jim and Claire glanced over at you and Toby, Claire with a skeptical expression on her face and Jim looking hopeful.
"Yeah- I'll go too- Shadow Staff will be useful here-" Claire commented ", Besides, three of us will be harder for Angor to deal with if he tries to show up."
She reached into her bag and removed the closed-down Shadow Staff, you nod at her and give her a slight smile. Claire pressed her lips firmly together and the staff clicked open, filling with dark energy you had only seen a rare few times. It still amazed you, even if you had seen it before.
Claire jerked her arm towards the wall, forming a black portal of shadow leading to the office of Walter Stricklander. You licked your bottom lip and followed Claire as she made her way into the portal.
. . .
What a freaking disaster.
You found yourself sitting with Claire and Toby outside the gym while your teachers were discussing how to punish you for sneaking into Stricklander's office. They didn't seem to care about what you were doing there, they were more focused on the shadow staff that they thought were filled with drugs.
"This is a disaster-" You grumbled under your breath to Claire.
"No kidding." She huffed back at you.
You rested your head on your hands as you leaned over, waiting for something to happen. You glanced at Toby, who was frowning. He stood and you raised a brow at him, tipping your head to him.
"It's my inhaler!!" Toby said, faking a gasp.
Toby didn't need an inhaler, you were about to pipe up before Claire stood, commenting about the situation. You squinted at them, confused at first by what the two were doing before it clicked in your brain.
Sometimes you wondered about yourself.
You stood and nodded along with Claire, chiming in about Toby's poor health and his need for the medication. Toby snagged the collapsed staff and waved it around, faking taking a puff like a real inhaler.
The teachers snagged it back, and one thing led to another, and Miss Janice was attempting to give Toby CPR. You practically saw red, grabbing her arm and tugging the teacher off him with a rage that you couldn't begin to describe.
"THAT IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT AN ASMAH ATTACK!!!" You shrieked in anger as the teacher finally sat back with a gap.
"He lives!!!"
You seethed and snagged the staff away from Coach Lawrence, then stormed towards the gym. Claire glanced at you, grabbed Toby by the arm, and dragged him to his feet. They followed you into the gym, and you took a huffy seat on the bleachers, watching others dance and have fun.
It was hard to think that they had no idea what was going on in this town, but that thought was muddled by the fact that one of your teachers had her mouth on your boyfriend's mouth. It really shouldn't have angered you as much as it did, but here you were seething about something you had no control over.
Toby took a seat next to you, and you leaned over your legs, propping your arms across your knees like a bridge.
"If I'd have known that was going to happen..." Toby said shakily ", I would NOT have done it."
You glanced at him and sighed, what a freaking disaster...
"At least we got the thing..." Claire sighed and leaned back. You nodded and stared out at the other dancing teens in the gym. You had expected to go to the dance with Toby while Claire and Jim stayed in Trollmarket. This was the opposite of what you wanted to happen tonight. This actually had to be the worse night ever with everything going on.
At least it couldn't get much worse.
