Rotten
(Angor Rot x Reader)
Angor nearly dragged you from the flames of your home, the home that you and your family had lived in for many years. You reached towards the house, the children! You wanted to cry out to your mate, he was forgetting the most precious things that the two of you had, your children.
"ANGOR!!" You cry out ", THE CHILDREN!! PLEASE! ANGOR!!"
He ignored your wails, even if they were right in his ear and he flung you over his shoulder. He didn't watch as your home village was burnt to the ground. YOu could almost hear the tears falling down his face as he abandoned his home, his people, his children. You didn't understand it.
How could he?
That's when you saw him, Gunmar the Black with the cursed blade slashing across the chest of another troll.
. . .
You sat between Angors' outstretched legs, your head resting on his chest, hand in hand with him. You are both silents in the refugee camp, trolls tend to their wounds and others gather food for the whole camp. Angor was considered a hero at this point, trolls talked about him and spread how he rescued them or their family members.
"You're a hero," You whisper to him and one of his strong white hands flitting around the pendant on the choker that clung to your throat ", How does that feel?"
"It's not as great as you'd think," He whispers ", I thought I'd have time..."
"Time to get the whelps?!" You snap at him ", Why? why did you save me? You could have saved them!"
You sob as you speak and you bury your face in your hands, your ears fall in sorrow, sobbing for your children. Angor wraps his arms around you, resting his head on your back, you can almost feel his regret on his face. You sniffle and wrap your arms around your knees.
"I thought I'd have time..." Angor whispers into your hair "... I understand if you think it's my fault, it is... I am so sorry..."
You whirl around and hug him as tightly as you can, weeping into his shoulder.
"It's not your fault..." You sob ", I can't blame you for things you can't control."
Angor holds you in his arms, you can almost feel him holding you together, as a mate should. Your shuddering form begins to convulse with grief.
"I... I have a proposition to make..." Angor sighs into your hair ", I'm going to find a way to protect you and the rest of the village..."
"How?" You choke through your tears ", There is no power in this world that can protect us from Gunmar..."
"I can protect you and everyone else like I wasn't able to save our whelps," He chokes when he speaks of your children.
The thought of your two children runs through your head, Vengor and Asayla, twins. Their bright silver eyes shining up at you, they look so much like Angor. You somehow manage to smile through their tears.
"Asayla would tell you that there is not power," You say ", What would you have told her?"
"I would have told her that magic exists," He smiles at the mention of his daughter ", I would tell her about Merlin or The Pale Lady."
"You aren't considering going to Her, are you?" You ask with panic in your voice.
"If it saves my mate and my people? I will." Angor says sternly, wiping your tears from your eyes his stern look was one you were extremely familiar with, it was the one that made him a leader. You press your nose to his and start to cry again, the thought of your mate leaving making you even more upset.
"Don't leave me," You whisper into his chest ", I don't want you to leave me."
"That's the last thing I want to do but I want to protect you too," He sighs ", I'd be lost if you got hurt or worse..."
You pull him in to feel his heartbeat ", Please don't leave..."
He takes your body in his arms and hugs you tightly, burying his nose in the crook of your neck.
"I can make this right," He whispers ", I'm not strong or smart, but if I get help, from a wizard...."
"You'll just fall into a debt that isn't worth paying!" You tell him ", What happens when Merlin doesn't help you? What if you go to Her? What if she asks for the thing you love most or your soul? Or something else of value?"
"I don't know, (Y/n)," Angor sighs in your ear ", I don't know..."
. . .
Angor swung his bag over his shoulder and looked back at you, a small smile playing across his lips like he was trying to assure you that he'd be back soon. You run over to him and throw your arms around his neck, burying your face in his chest.
"Come back soon, okay?" You whisper to him as he hugs you.
"I will return as soon as I can, my love," He says with a small but sad smile ", I love you infinitely and forevermore."
"I love you too, Angor."
You let go of him and smile sadly, he kisses you forehead and turns away, his silhouette in the moonlight growing smaller and smaller as you watch him go. Until he finally disappears into the night. You grip the choker at your throat, squeezing the stone pendant so tightly that you feared it would break in your stone grip.
Your husband, your mate, the crafty troll that had stolen your heart, who gave you the pendant, was gone. You felt so alone. A hand fell on your shoulder and you look over your shoulder to see the tall human in his silver-blue armor. A small gasp escaped your lips.
"He was never going to come to find me," Merlin sighed ", his goal was Morgana from the first time this plan crossed his mind."
You sigh and look back to where your mate had vanished from view.
"He will play a great part in her defeat," Merlin stated letting his hand fall from your shoulder ", very very far into the future."
"Will he be home soon?" You ask the Wizard.
"Yes... but he will leave forever afterward."
You sigh and wipe the tears from your eyes, "That's what I was afraid you would say..."
