Izanagi's Burden
No Pairing/ Short chapter
I do not own Naruto.
Hinata decided it was finally time she tried to do something about the fact Izanagi never got to live a full life. If she could at least help him live once, she felt like maybe her guilt would be eased. So here she was in his time searching for him today. The moment she caught sight of him he seemed to light up. His entire demeanor changed and he rushed over to her. "Lady Hinata, to what do I owe the pleasure?" he asked with a small smile, to which she could only return with the same.
"I've come to see you today." She said and his eyes shone with his joy. "Come to accept my proposal, have we?" he asked and she rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh, I wish, but we know how my father feels about it." she sighed and despite being let down, the happiness did not leave him. He offered her a hand and she took it graciously. They did nothing but stroll through the village and enjoy the sights as they did, not many words needed to be shared between the two. As the sun began to set in the sky, Hinata released a sigh and turned to him once more. "I must go, I will come back tomorrow, I promise." She said and he hugged her gently.
"I would be honored to be blessed with your presence two days in a row." He said softly as he kissed the back of her hand. She offered him a smile as she walked him to his gates, only to wave and take off towards her campsite. When Hinata got to her campsite she sat before the ashes of her ruined fire and began working on a new one, she didn't want to get cold during the night after all. When she managed to catch a spark she gently blew on it to get it to flare up. She sighed in relief once it caught and flared up brilliantly.
She rubbed her hands together in front of the fire and smiled as they began to warm. She turned and gently reached into her bag and pulled out some rations that Izanagi had bought for her. she began to eat her dinner with a small smile as she thought about him. He was a very sweet person and if she didn't know exactly who she were meant to be with already she would have definitely given Izanagi the chance. She looked down to the blade by her side and sighed. She loved Madara, there was no doubt about that. This was just a small stop before she returned to him in his time. She couldn't wait to see him once more, but then again she did have to go back and get Ino as promised.
When she was finished eating she crammed her trash in her pack and crawled within the bedroll she had laid out. The moment her head landed on the pillowy portion her eyes fluttered shut. She had worn herself out with all the walking she had done today. She knew she couldn't sleep deeply though, because the nagging feeling someone was watching her was overwhelming.
When she woke the next morning the feeling of being watched was long gone, but she knew she needed to hurry and get to Izanagi. She made her way to the Uchiha compound, only to see it was already happening, Izanagi was searching high and low for Hikaru, and her heart ached. "Lady Hinata... He's been taken... please can you help me find him?" he asked and she nodded rapidly as she took off after him. "Where did you last see him?" she asked and he pointed ahead of them to a small clearing where training dummies were set up. Her eyes softened as she realized he must have been training when it happened.
She looked around the sight, only seeing bare footprints in the dirt surrounding the dummies. She looked closer and noticed that they were involved in a struggle. "What did these bandits look like?" she asked and he frowned. "Like some kind of odd plant person." Was all he needed to say before she took off following the footsteps towards where she knew he was probably hiding out. Hikaru was a smart child, ensuring she had a path to follow to find him.
She skidded to a stop before a cave entrance and sighed deeply as she pulled the blade up to defend against anyone who dared strike. Before she could stop him, Izanagi ran headlong into the cave, only to be tossed to the ground just as swiftly, Hikaru in his arms. The young boy was sobbing as his brother held him, Izanagi only telling him that it was all going to be ok. She frowned at the brothers and stepped between them and the so called bandits that stood before her. She knew what these were, and she knew who was behind this now.
"You left me." His deep voice rumbled out to her and she scanned the cave for him, only to find him attached to the Gedo statue. His long black hair was fading in color, and his face looked exhausted. "I didn't leave you... I was coming back... I just stopped to help a friend first." She hissed and he frowned at her. "He seems to think of you as much more than just a friend, my dear." He said and motioned for the zetsu to go after Izanagi once more, but she cut them down before they could reach him.
"Lady Hinata... You're..." Izanagi began and she turned to face him with a saddened look on her face. "You're Okami, Madara's wife..." he whispered and she frowned and nodded as she sighed. "In my past attempt I was... as of right now I'm running around fixing his mistakes." She said and Izanagi gripped his younger brother tighter as he forced them to their feet. "This is why you never gave me the chance..." he sighed and he began to back out of the cave.
"I'm sorry, Izanagi. Please forgive me." She whispered as he took off running. She looked back to Madara who opened his arms to her. She sheathed her blade and made her way over to him. "Why were you going to kill him?" she asked and he frowned. He seemed to think it over for a moment before he spoke, his fingers trailing over her cheek as he spoke. "Because you're my wife. He can't have you, I love you too much to let you go again." He said and she hugged him tightly.
"I love you too Madara... but you have to understand... Killing my friends doesn't help you win me over any..." she whispered as her blade sliced through the cord connecting him to the Gedo statue. His eyes widened in fear as she allowed him to fall, his frail body unable to hold himself up any longer. "I can't let you hurt anyone else... I'm so sorry." she whispered and he only offered a small smile as she angled her blade over his heart.
"I refuse to allow you to take Obito... I refuse to allow you to hurt Izanagi or Hikaru... I refuse to allow you to curse anyone else with your anger..." she whispered as she plunged the blade into his chest, him not even making a move to stop her. He only reached up to touch her cheek once more before the light faded from his eyes, a small frown on his lips. She knew she couldn't leave his body here, seeing as though someone would eventually come along and steal it to revive him. She frowned as she pulled the blade from his chest, the blade now shimmering with a light unlike any other.
She cursed internally as she looked into the blade and saw his reflection staring back at her. She now understood how his soul had been transferred into the blade. She knew what she needed to do now. She stood and sheathed the blade. She couldn't bear to have him staring at her anymore, not in that manner. She made her way back to the village and stopped in the training grounds. Her eyes caught sight of the god tree she trained at all the time and she smiled as she strolled right up to it. She sighed as she held the blade up to the tree and it cracked open to consume the blade once more.
"Back in the tree you go."

She continued to watch over Izanagi for the next few days, he went around telling everyone who he could find that he had seen Okami and Madara. Some dismissed him, while other listened intently to what he had to say. She smiled as he continued to tell them all about her and her 'Magestic beauty' she couldn't help the amusement that crossed her at this. She made her way through the village and the moment he caught sight of her he rushed over to her.
"You're ok..." he said and she nodded as she gave him a small smile. "Of course, I am... So, stop telling everyone about me like I died." She laughed lightly and a blush actually crossed over his cheeks at this and he rushed to scratch the back of his head nervously. She leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on his cheek. "Now go on, Izanagi... Live the life you were meant to live." She said and he frowned. He didn't want to let her leave him once more.
"You can't go..." he said and she smiled at him sadly. "I have to. I've done everything I can for you right now... I need you to take care of your son." She said and his eyes went wide as he scanned over her. "My son? But I..." He began but he couldn't figure out what she were talking about. "You should talk to Hibana-chan... she has news for you." She said and turned to walk away the moment he took off to go find Hibana. She knew Izanagi had tried to move on, which made her feel back that she had even returned to his time, but she knew he needed to live, that way Obito and his father could be raised by Izanagi. She knew that eventually something would happen to Obito's parents, and that HIbana and Izanagi would be the ones to raise Obito. Which is why she was fighting so hard to ensure that Izanagi didn't die.
She desperately wanted the one life where Izanagi didn't have the burden of being a decoy or her eyes... she wanted him to avoid the burden of all his other lives.
