Warm Material
"Sans.. I'm cold.." Aliza managed to whisper, her frame shaking uncontrollably as the chill of the Snowdin woods bit into her skin. She felt goosebumps rise on her arms and back, her legs itching front the cold, her feet buried in the snow.
The same thin dress that clung to her body whipped around her knees in a stiff gust of wind, mimicking the warmth that whisked away with each second that she hugged herself in a futile attempt to stop her rigid trembling.
Sans' eyes flicked towards her, moving along her figure as he inspected her with a quick glance, sighing when he came to a conclusion.
"Here." Aliza looked up, her cheeks incapable of moving to smile from the tears that had frozen to them, her eyes burning as snowflakes blew past. Sans unzipped his jacket and plopped it onto her shoulders, crouching so he was at her level to bind her into it's confines.
The change was immediate, like a wizard had made a cloak of fire and let it rest around her. Aliza slid her hands through the long sleeves, the jacket big enough to cover her legs, right down to the middle of her calves.
The outside was soft blue felt, rasping over itself with the smallest of movements. Inside, the hood was lined with fluff, reminding Aliza of sheep as Sans adjusted it around her head, pulling the strings that were contained within the loop that made the hole for seeing out of the hood so that it stayed in place on her much smaller skull.
She burrowed into the middle, feeling around through sleeves for the pockets on either side near the bottom of the jacket, getting her finger into them the best she could, the crease of worn material on the elbows from Sans' bending his arms tucking into the pockets. She looked up at him, his eye sockets still above her eyes by at least a few inches, meeting the emotionless glare he had in store for her.
"Better?" He asked, tugging on the shoulders of the jacket till he felt it sat correctly on the human. Aliza nodded and tried to smile to show her gratitude, only managing a weak tremor of her lips. The shaking of her bones had stilled and she could already feel warmth seeping back into her soul.
"Good. How do ya like the inside?" Aliza furrowed her brow in a questionable look, she hadn't put much thought into that part of the jacket. Pulling one hand back, she pressed her palm against the fabric, sliding it along the ragged plastic of the zipper from the outside.
"It's.. really soft.." She mumbled, half to herself as she couldn't resist the urge to pet it, as if it were an animal. She saw Sans grin and relaxed a little, returning her hand to it's previous location.
"Yeah, I know." Sans responded, standing with a hand gripping Aliza's shoulder, the only thing hiding his rib cage and torso bones was a thin white t-shirt, stains lining the front, something Aliza had become accustomed to seeing.
"What is it?" She asked, finally feeling the fear of the skeleton ebb away, replaced by a sense of companionship.
"Oh ya know, a little something I picked up at the store. Pap stitched it into there." Aliza huffed, not really liking his answer, but accepting it nonetheless. When she was quiet, Sans pitched in again, shrugging lazily.
"Only this now is we don't have a shopkeeper." Aliza eyes widen and her stomach threatened to upchuck Papyrus' spaghetti, revolted by thought that she was using someone else's skin for warmth.
"Come on, kid. We're close to town now." Sans walked forward casually as if he had just had a normal conversation, not even stopping to look back to see if the human was following.
After a few seconds of nausea and guilt, Aliza worked past it and trudged through the snow after the skeleton, her mind as numb as her frost bitten feet.
