Cause you are that someone that gets me like no one else

Right when I need it the most

And I'll be the one you rely on, a shoulder to cry on

"Ow! My stomach hurts! Mother! Mother!! Where is she?!"

Wu walked into Montgomery's room, annoyed at the shouting. He found his older brother sitting crossed-legged on his bed, hunched over and cradling his stomach. His face was screwed up in pain as he groaned, shutting his eyes tight.

"What's your problem, Monty?" Wu inquired annoyingly. "It's really hard to study with you carrying on like this."

"It's really hard to keep quiet with this stomach ache carrying on like this," his brother snapped before groaning. "Where's Mother?"

"She's out in the garden tending to her marigolds and chrysanthemums."

"And Father?"

"He's gone to Mr Hikari's to congratulate him on the birth of a daughter."

"Great," muttered Montgomery. "No adults in the house and I'm left with this short elf." He smirked teasingly at Wu despite the unbearable pain in his stomach. "I'm not that short!" Wu screamed at him angrily, his face turning red.

"What is going on here?" A gentle voice rang through the hall. The brothers stopped bickering as the footsteps got closer. They both turned to the door to see their mother, Rosie, standing in the entrance, her arms folded. "Haven't I told you there's to be no more fighting in the house? Last time you almost broke each other's noses."

"Sorry, Mother," Wu and Montgomery muttered in unison before a sudden pain invaded the older's stomach strongly than before. He bent over and groaned as he felt like all his inners were going to come out of his throat.

Rosie's face turned pale as she ran past a concerned Wu to the brunet's side. "Honey, are you okay?" She asked trying to straighten him up. Montgomery resisted her and quickly shook his head, his breathing uneven.

"Will you at least tell me what's wrong?" Rosie's voice shook as Montgomery's painful silence increased the amount of worry in her. It was a few seconds later that the boy finally gasped out, "Pain . . . stomach ache . . ." He trailed off as he squeezed his tummy harder in hopes to lessen the pain.

Rosie helped her son to lie down but he resisted yet again, wanting to sit for some reason. With a shudder, he bent all the way forwards so that if anything did come out, it wouldn't come out all over his bed. "I think I'm gonna . . . I'm gonna . . ." He mumbled before gagging.

"Wu, quick," Rosie yelled, "find a trash can, a bag, anything!"

Wu swept his eyes over the room and found neither of the objects his mother desired. He stumbled about in confusion before remembering the waste basket in the kitchen. However, it was too late.

Montgomery heaved and spurted out the vomit which was trying to leave his stomach for the previous half hour. It got all over the carpet as Montgomery coughed violently afterwards. The younger brother backed away in disgust. Rosie gestured at him to find something suitable before Montgomery covered the entire house with vomit.

"He couldn't keep anything down so I gave him some medicine. His stomach's a bit better now," Rosie informed her husband, Frank, of Montgomery's state. They both looked down at him as he lay in bed, a sick look on his face.

There was a thermometer sticking out from between his lips which he impatiently rolled around in his mouth till his mother very slightly slapped his hand. She touched her hand to Montgomery's forehead before retrieving the thermometer.

"He's also running a fever," Rosie stated, showing the result to her husband. As Frank observed the device, Rosie bent forward and kissed her sick son's forehead. The brunet grumbled in irritation as he took a glass of water offered to him by Wu.

Frank hummed in agreement, putting the thermometer aside. "A tummy ache, vomiting and fever?" He asked Montgomery, raising an eyebrow. "Well, it looks like our little Monty has a stomach bug."

Frank and Rosie both drew back as Montgomery choked on the water getting into his airway before spitting it out all over Wu. The blonde squeezed his eyes shut as the water landed on his face and the front of his clothes. He looked down at himself in disgust before stepping back a good inches away from the bed.

"There's a bug in my stomach?!" The brunet screamed. "Why didn't anyone tell me? How long has it been there?" His yells were getting louder with every question he asked.

Wu rolled his eyes as he dried himself with paper towels. "It's not a literal bug, genius."

"Son, what you have is gastroenteritis," Frank explained, placing a hand on Montgomery's shoulder. "It's symptoms include nausea and fever from which you are suffering."

"Gastro-what now?" The brunet asked, not really knowledgeable in the field of medical terms. "English, please."

"Stomach flu," the three of them stated in unison.

Montgomery looked at them with a blank expression. Wu face-palmed before saying, It means you're super duper sick."

The brunet groaned loudly, sinking back into the pillows propped up for him. "I can't get sick now," he complained. "I just made the school's football team. Now the coach's gonna kick me out."

Rosie tsked, shaking her head. "No coach is kicking my son out of the team." She smiled and patted Montgomery's cheek. "Besides, you're going to get better before school starts next week."

Frank nodded at his wife's words. "Your mother's right. But this is only possible if you cooperate and take all your medicines." He looked at his son, waiting for his agreement.

"Alright," mumbled the brunet, folding his arms. "But you promise I'll get better soon, right?"

Wu furrowed his eyebrows. "That's literally what they just said. What, you're suffering from short-term memory loss too?"

Frank chuckled, patting Wu on the back and making him sit in the chair next to Montgomery's bed. Rosie got up and grabbed the older's messy clothes. "Of course you'll be okay soon, Monty," she said. "All you need is a bed rest - and a brother."

"What?"

. . . 🤒 . . .

(Time skip brought to you by Wu following Montgomery everywhere with a waste basket)

. . . 🤒 . . .

"I can't believe that I got sick over the weekend and got stuck with Wu as a babysitter!" Montgomery complained, screaming into the receiver of the old-fashioned telephone.

There came the sound of laughing from the other end before someone spoke, "Really?! Are you sitting in a high chair with a bib around your neck while he feeds you baby food?"

Montgomery rolled his eyes. "Ha ha, very funny, Ray. Remind me to laugh!" He exclaimed sarcastically. "Maybe you should join a comedy club."

Ray tried to control his snickers. "Okay, sorry man," he apologized. "Don't get your pants in a twist."

Montgomery felt someone pat his shoulder. He turned around to see Wu standing there, the forsaken waste basket still in his hands.

"What?" Montgomery mouthed impatiently.

"Do you wanna puke?" He asked silently, pointing at the waste basket.

"No!" Montgomery mouthed in reply, flapping his hand. "Go away."

Wu patted his stomach, mouthing, "Are you hungry?" He made a drinking gesture. "Do you want water?"

The brunet shook his head at his brother as his friend on the other end started relating something that happened at school once.

Wu started making a face and jumped up and down, squirming as if he needed to pee. "Washroom?" He mouthed.

Montgomery looked at Wu as if he had lost his mind. "Ray, I'm gonna call you back." He placed the receiver back on the telephone before turning around and glaring at Wu.

Suddenly, he put on a fake smile. "Yes, you seem to be trying to communicate with me through hand gestures as if I'm deaf," he observed. "What, pray tell, is the matter with you?"

Wu shrugged before replying, "Nothing. I'm just looking after you like Mother and Father told me to."

Montgomery began to say something but stopped as the pain from before ignited in his stomach, gradually increasing. He groaned, bending over. Wu quickly pushed the waste basket under his brother's nose.

The brunet growled, snatching the basket from the blonde. He then pushed Wu out of the room. "I wanna rest so get out!" Wu resisted the older's push but Montgomery had always been stronger than him.

"And take this stupid thing with you!"

Wu turned around to have his face clobbered by the waste basket. He rubbed his nose as the door to the room slammed shut. He recovered and put his mouth near the keyhole. "Your medicine's in the second drawer of your dresser!"

"Got it!"

Wu rolled his blue eyes, picking up the basket and sitting right outside the door. He knew his brother wasn't going to take his medicines. Well, Wu would be here if anything happened.

His parents had some errands to run and they had left Wu in charge of Montgomery. He didn't care if he irritated his brother. He just wanted Monty to get better.

Wu laid back against the wall, basket in hand. He strained his ears and winced as he heard Montgomery groan painfully from the room behind him. The blonde made himself comfortable on the carpet, waiting for his brother to come out and ask for his aid.

It was evening as Wu quietly pushed open the door to Montgomery's room and found him huddled in his blankets, reading a thick book. A novel, no doubt.

The brunet looked up to see his brother standing in the doorway, a plate of cookies in his hands. He gestured for Wu to come in who made his way towards the bed. "How do you feel?" He asked, placing the plate on the nightstand.

"Better," the older replied in a monotone voice. The blonde noticed the bottles of medicine here and there. At least his brother had taken them. Montgomery put down his book and pointed to the stack of papers under Wu's arm. "What are those?"

The blonde beamed, seating himself at the other end of the bed. "These are all 'Get Well Soon' cards," he explained, spreading them all in front of his brother.

Montgomery couldn't help but smile as he straightened up to receive the cards. He picked up a red one with fiery doodling all over it. "That's from Ray," Wu stated, picking up another two. "And these are from Maya and Libby."

Montgomery's eyes sparkled at every card he opened and every "get well soon" message he read. There was one with cake quotes everywhere which turned out to be from Lilly. Then there was a huge card from the coach and the entire football team.

One was from Misako which he had taken a rather long time in putting back. He assumed Ray had blabbed to the whole world that Montgomery was sick with gastro-whatever and so everyone had agreed to wish him well.

The last card was a bit bigger than the rest and it glowed golden under the bedside lamp. He opened it and gasped as a pop-up picture of him and Wu emerged from between. The words "Best Bro Ever!" sat atop the picture like a crown.

Montgomery looked up at to see Wu smiling sheepishly. "What? I had to make you a card!" He blurted out. The brunet chuckled at the way his younger brother blushed.

"Oh! I almost forgot," Wu exclaimed. From under the bed he pulled out the dreaded waste basket and put it in front of Montgomery. "I even drew puppy eyes on the basket so that you would think twice before throwing it everywhere. Isn't it cute?"

Montgomery raised an eyebrow at the googly eyed basket. It was smiling innocently as it stared up at the boy with the eyes Wu had drawn. "Looks cute enough," he replied, smirking. "But I can't possibly puke in it now, can I? It too adorable."

"Oh," Wu muttered. "Right, sorry."

"Anyway . . . thanks, bro."

Wu glanced up at the brunet. "For what?"

"For being my brother."

Wu stretched his lips into a smile and raised his hand for a fist-bump. Montgomery gladly bumped his fist before pulling Wu over and giving him a noogie. "You're such a short elf."

"I am not!" Wu yelled, smiling in spite of himself. However, he stopped as he let out a powerful sneeze.

"AAA-CHOO!!"

Both of them froze for a moment before Montgomery gave a mischievous smile. "Ooohhh. Looks like someone's sick."

"This is your fault," was all Wu could find as a retort.
