Chapter 20
"Go to the human world with you?" Momiji asked.
As usual Momiji and Uta were at the ramen stand, they had been patiently waiting for the stand to open. Onibi had tried asking about going on a date with Ungaikyō to the human world for him, but he stopped him. He wanted to ask the question himself. Once he had asked though, Momiji seemed confused by the idea.
"...Is it a bad idea?"
"Well since 'Ungaikyō' is actually the mirror and not you, you'd probably be seen as a human. A weirdly dressed human at least. But it might not be such a bad idea, it's just the fact we're meant to stop you yokai from going to the human world"
"Pff- Like we actually ever manage to stop them" Uta spoke up. "Just sneak by like Onibi and Kamaitachi do!"
"..But won't Aoi try and stop him like he does with you two? Ungaikyō doesn't seem like one to continue trying to sneak by and instead give up"
"Yep. Cause I don't care for trying if I'll just be constantly stop..it's not worth it really..."
"Just bring a mirror with you and he can go through it!" Onibi said.
"Wait you can do that?" Momiji questioned.
"I can grab things and put things back through my mirror. So obviously it's something I can do..." he replied. "Just never really bothered doing so often..."
"Let's continue planning for tomorrow. We've got a lot to do to make sure this works" Momiji sighed.
. . .
Momiji sat on his bed, trying to make sure he had everything he needed. If he was going to sneak Ungaikyō into the human world it'd be better if he got him clothes to fit into modern days. Yokais clothes seemed old fashioned and more traditional. Not that there was nothing wrong with that.
Standing up and picking up the clothes he had gotten for Ungaikyō, Momiji as well was wearing normal clothes since he wasn't on duty. He set the clothes next to his mirror. On cue he watched as a hand reached through his mirror and take the clothes. While he changed into modern clothes, Momiji would carry a mirror with him so he could sneak by unseen. He had told the others he planned on going to the capital for a few hours since it'd been a while.
None of them particularly cared since there was barely anything to do and as long as he wasn't gone for very long.
Momiji made his way out of the station, carrying a bag which held the mirror he'd use. But it would also be carrying Ungaikyō's mirror. It'd be strange if he was carrying a mirror around since it wasn't exactly something one would carry around normally.
Once he was away from the station and close to the human world, he took the mirror out and set it on the ground.
"Okay Ungaikyō, you can come out" Momiji said.
After a few seconds he watched as Ungaikyō climbed out of the mirror, dressed in the clothes he had been given and holding his normal clothes.
"I didn't know what to do about my normal clothes..also these clothes are weird.."
"It's only for today, now put your clothes and mirror in the bag" Momiji replied, holding out the bag. "I'll be calling you by your real name too"
"..Why.."
"If you're going to try and fit in, you can't just be called Ungaikyō. That's the name of a yokai and you're trying to pass off as being human"
"...Fine..."
Momiji chuckled as they approached the capital, of course Ungaikyō didn't really like the idea of having to use his true name. Hopefully he wouldn't have to say his true name a lot.
"I've been here for just a few minutes and I can already tell just how much the world has changed...." Ungaikyō said, looking around.
"If you're curious about anything, feel free to ask. I'll answer any questions the best I can"
"...mmm.."
They remained quiet most of the time while walking. Occasionally, Ungaikyō would point to something and ask about it. Momiji would answer him, simply at first, but in more detail if the other asked for him to explain further.
Watching the world change through a mirror was one thing. But actually experiencing the change in person was something else entirely. There was so much to see, it was a little overwhelming. Though slowly he was getting used to it.
"Everything is so different...more advanced.." Ungaikyō muttered.
"A lot changes over hundreds of years. The world where you yokais live is more set for the old times. But I guess you guys prefer it that way" Momiji smiled.
"Things are easier that way. Less complicated..."
"Well, if you prefer simpler things, let's go for a walk in the park" the Katanashu grabbed the yokai's hand and began pulling him along.
"..park?"
"You'll see!"
They ran for a few minutes before reaching an open space with a path and a few benches lining the pathway every few feet. There was a few people walking around and some children playing. It was rather peaceful.
Ungaikyō glanced over to Momiji and saw him smiling at his surroundings. He'd never admit it vocally but he liked seeing him happy. Honestly, it was better than seeing him being scary. Not that he minded every side of him.
"Ungaikyō? Why are you staring at me?"
"Sorry..." he replied, looking away.
"It's fine. Come on, let's take a relaxing walk before heading back" he said with a smile, holding Ungaikyō's hand.
"Right" Ungaikyō smiled back.
