.....
"I repeat, what's your business sneaking around here, Clanker? Spying for the traitorous Jedi scum?" Growled the Clone, pointing his blaster at 758 who was frozen in fright and confused by his words.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about! Why are you talking about the Jedi like that? Don't you see them as your leaders?" He asked nervously, still bracing himself for his death.
"I only see them now as traitors. They attempted the murder of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. General Skywalker saw the whole thing and saved him. Now he's the Supreme Leader of the Republic Army." Answered the Clone spitefully.
The droid was more confused than ever. When he had his crazy vision, he only heard bad stuff coming from Palpatine. "I know that can't be true!" He protested. "You must remember being friends with one of them. Can't you even remember those times? Please try! I know you do!"
His hand faltered. Then visions of his time with the Jedi suddenly came. Fighting side by side with Kenobi, Rex, and Ahsoka. He sighed heavily and let his arm fall.
"I can't kill you even if I want to now. Thank you for helping me see how blind I was. I don't even know what had come over me."
Knowing now that the Clone won't kill him, 758 relaxed a bit, standing up as well. "It's okay. None of this could have been your fault. Something else must've caused your sudden change of thoughts. I'm now figuring out what to do to find the real villain of this war."
The two looked at each other for a while. Then the Clone spoke. "Well, since we're the only ones with some sense in our heads right now, we should introduce ourselves. I'm Zack, a commander of the 501st. What did they call you, droid?"
The B1 felt embarrassed. "Our superiors never had the need to give us names. Why would they? All we were made for was to be destroyed by the Jedi. None of us survived long to earn names."
Zack folded his arms. "Well, that is going to change right now." He thought for a moment. "From now on, your name is Soren. I chose it because it is a brave sounding name."
The newly named Soren's optics brightened. "I think I might like it." He suddenly had a thought. "We can't stand around here forever, you know. We have to find out whoever caused the break in the war and who sent the order to kill the Jedi. And why the Clones reacted like that."
Zack nodded. We should start by checking the Jedi Temple for survivors. I do believe there are some small enterances we can sneak in without drawing attention to ourselves, if you're up for it."
Soren shrugged. "It sounds better than what I could have been doing. But since we're on opposite sides, we need a temporary truce until this is all over." He held out his hand. Zack glanced at it, and at last he took it and the shook. "Truce." They then started to make their way to the Temple.
.........
"I think I found an entrance," Zack whispered, as he an the droid snuck through a small doorway next to the main entrance. As they emerged into the main hallway, a horrible sight met their eyes.
Bodies of Jedi young and old along with a few fallen
Clones were everywhere. Blood stained the floor as they carefully walked around the dead.
"This is worse than on the regular battlefield," Soren muttered in disgust. "Whoever ordered this was a freaking murderer!" Zack couldn't help but agree. But to him this looked like a big massacre than a murder or execution. Then he remembered the younglings. He had a bad feeling.
"Come. We need to see if the young ones had survived. Though I don't really know if they did." Soren nodded his head, dread and disbelief that somebody would kill young children with no reason why was just cold.
They arrived in the area where the younglings trained, and a horrible sight greeted them.
All of them were slain. Zack felt grief for the children fill him and Soren just couldn't believe it. Who would do this?
Zack examined one of the children. A lightsaber slash was accross his chest. He turned to Soren. "They weren't killed by Clones. There's a lightsaber cut on all of the bodies. But which Jedi or Sith killed them?"
Soren shook his head. He didn't know. The only ones he personally knew with a lightsaber on his side were Dooku, Grievous, and recent deserter, Ventress. But she couldn't be the one, could she?
The two of them knew that there was nothing they could do for the children now. Zack places his hand once more on the young one's shoulder, murmuring some words of peace. Then he stood up and the duo slowly left.
A while later they were in another part of the temple were more bodies of adult Jedi and Padawans. Soren felt sadness filling him which was weird because he was a droid and droids don't have feelings at all. "Zack," he said. The clone turned to him. "Lately, and I know that this sounds impossible, but I've been starting to feel emotions."
Zack was a bit surprised, but he said, "In what way?"
"Well, I suddenly started hearing voices in my head, and when my patrol went offline, new surges of feelings just started coming in. I was afraid, and confused at what was happening. I know that I probably shouldn't even feel them. I'm just a droid, after all."
Zack shook his head. "It isn't wrong to feel them. You probably had something special inside that suddenly started up. Which makes you different from the other droids. I actually kind of like you for that."
The B1 felt happiness inside him at his words. Before he could say something back, however, a small elderly sounding groan hit his hearing sensors. "Zack!" He hissed. "I think somebody is still alive!"
"What?" He asked in shock. The two of them followed the noise until they entered a small area where an elder Jedi was lying on the floor, apparently still alive.
"Soren, help him up!" Zack exclaimed, as he approached carefully. The old Jedi looked scared, but he held up his hand. "I'm not here to hurt you. We're here to help. Who are you?"
The Jedi coughed. "Master Tera Sinube," he said in a hoarse voice. "I once helped young Ahsoka find her missing lightsaber. She was most grateful in the end. But.. when she left... it really broke my heart. It was probably for the best, though."
The B1 felt a bit overwhelmed by Sinube's story. He must have been a great friend to the Jedi and possibly the Clones, too.
"You can come with us, Master. We can help you. And you can help us. We're trying to find out who was responsible for the chaos!" Zack said, trying to convince him. He shook his head.
"No. I'm finished. I could sense my final days approaching even before Order 66." Zack stared in disbelief. "You can't give up. I can find medical supplies and save you!"
Sinube sighed. "Don't waste your time with me, young one. Help others that have a longer life to live. I'm soon going to be one with the Force-" He coughed again. Soren winced inwardly at how painful he must be feeling.
The elder Jedi turned to Soren. "I see a fire within you, young one. You have the courage to stand up to your inner demons and help save the galaxy from this new threat. It's interesting. Clones and Droids together. I never thought I'd see that day." He chuckled softly.
Soren shook his head. "I'm no hero. I've killed innocent people in this war. I don't deserve this praise. I don't even think I can help save the Galaxy!"
"Just believe in your abilities. And trust the Force... May the Force be with you. Always..." Sinube sighed as his breath stilled, his head falling down to his side. The two companions stared silently at the fallen Jedi. Grief flooding them both. Then his body faded away into thin air soon after.
Soren was a bit confused. "What happened?"
"I guess that happens to some Jedi that have a big connection to the Force," Zack responded, now knowing that he was the only survivor that had died. He stood up.
"Come on, Soren. We should leave. I don't think we will find anymore survivors." The young droid bowed his head in sadness. "Okay," He murmured. They began to make their way to the exit.
........
Zack and Soren made it out of their exit area a while later, turning their heads once more to see the smoking Jedi Temple behind them, knowing that what they have known their whole war life was now probably gone for good.
"What should we do now?" Soren asked Zack in a saddened voice, still thinking about Sinube.
"I don't know. My best guess is that we should find a place to regroup and figure out our next move, but where, I can't think of it."
They had by now reached the edge of the Temple docking area.
"Well, let's just hope nobody finds us by then-" Soren was about to say, when somebody shouted, "Freeze! Put your hands up!"
The duo turned to find a whole squad of Clones pointing their weapons at them.
"You were saying?!" Zack exlclaimed in nervousness as they faced their coming doom.
