Chapter Thirteen.

I was too comfortable to move surrounded by the large double duvet that I had somehow wrapped completely around myself in my sleep. The large number of pillows that I rested my head on only added to my comfort.

Logan had helped me move my suitcases out of the hospital room and into the spare room in his house a few days ago. His bedroom was next to mine and I often found myself walking into him in the mornings. Logan had helped with moving furniture around the room that Gemma had kindly had delivered to the house.

I was in the process of repainting the walls as Logan had said that he wanted the room to be my own and so I could paint it and decorate it any way that I wanted. I could still faintly smell the light blue paint that was probably still drying from yesterday. I had decided to paint one wall light blue and another light purple and to leave the rest the original cream colour. The duvet and pillows matched the colours on the walls that Logan had kindly bought me.

I had been worried about moving in with Logan as it was unfamiliar and I wouldn't be in the same house with my mum who had reassured me that everything would be fine. I thought that sharing a house with Logan would have been awkward and uncomfortable but so far it had been surprisingly easy. It was different but Logan made sure that I felt at ease within his house and his presence.

Logan would wake me up every morning before going downstairs to make us breakfast which was normally jam on toast, either fried or scrambled eggs and bacon. I spent the majority of my time in my room either decorating it or sleeping, since I was still recovering, while Logan disappeared after breakfast to the pack house to help with his pack duties before returning for lunch where we would both sit around the small table in the kitchen. Logan had explained that it depended on how busy he was as to whether or not he could stay for the rest of day after lunch.

He had spent almost every afternoon with me decorating my room and often getting the both of us covered in paint and sometimes the furniture. I was surprised that I had found myself warming up to Logan and the idea of him being a werewolf as I realised that it was a part of him. Logan hadn't touched me or even made a move to touch me and I was thankful that he respected me enough. I had found myself liking Logan as I enjoyed his company, and I enjoyed being around him but I wasn't ready to approach the subject of us being mates yet.

I had slowly but surely gotten my voice back although I sometimes found myself coughing or in need of a drink because my throat would suddenly go dry but it was near enough back to normal, for which I was thankful for. I would sometimes find Logan staring at my lips when I would be talking and I didn't know if it was because he had never heard my voice or if I had something stuck in my teeth. It made me self-conscious as I would sometimes touch my face or put my hand over my mouth as I spoke.

My mum had come to visit me almost every day to help me with organising my room and decorating as well. She seemed better than I had ever seen her as she had been smiling and laughing a lot. Her blues eyes would sparkle and her cheeks would spread wide in to the biggest smile that I had ever seen on her face. I was pleased that my mum was starting to get over everything that had happened and she was finally being the person she wanted to be.

I could hear the door being opened and closed downstairs and a frown made its way onto my face. I opened my eyes slowly. The light flooding through the gap in the curtain had me blinking furiously while I slowly sat up, the covers pooling at my waist.

"Esme!" My name was called from downstairs as it echoed through the house.

I threw the covers off of my body and hurried over to the edge of the bed where I began to make my way across the room suddenly wide awake. The last time I had seen Jason he had been fending off two wolves who were both set on seriously injuring him or worse killing him.

"Jason," I grinned as I reached the top of the stairs to see that he was waiting at the bottom a cheeky grin on his face as he saw me.

"Hey," Oliver exclaimed appearing at his brother's side with a small pout on his face, "don't forget me."

"Hey!" I called as I began to make my way down the stairs taking them two at a time until I was standing in front of them both.

I was quickly taken in their arms as they swept me up and off my feet in to a hug. I couldn't help but laugh as they squeezed me tightly to their chests. I had missed them both and although Logan had said that they were both fine when I had asked I couldn't help but still be worried about my two friends. I was happy to see them both and I was relieved to see that they were actually fine.

"Your voice," Oliver smiled as I was set gently on my feet and released from bother of their grips.

I was about to reply when both of the boys were pushed aside to reveal a girl who looked to be a year or two older than me. She stood tall next to Jason and Oliver who were grumbling and glaring at her while she was too busy staring at me with her eyes wide. I recognised her from the pictures that decorated the hallway and if I didn't know it was their sister from the photos then the similarities between them all would have given it away.

"What the hell Emily?" Jason growled. "You could have just said excuse me like any normal person."

"You were taking too long," She growled back turning to her brother so that she could glare at him before she turned back around to face me.

I shrank back under her scrutinising gaze as I played with the hem of Logan's shirt that I had worn to bed. I had been sleeping in Logan's shirts ever since I had gotten here. When I had changed into my own I had been uncomfortable and unable to sleep. It was weird but I could only sleep with Logan's shirt on and I knew that it had something to do with Logan's scent that clung to the soft material that helped me sleep.

A squeal forced me to look up in time to catch the mass of blonde hair lunging towards me before I was taken into the arms of Emily who was still squealing. My arms hung awkwardly at my side as she continued to squeeze me tightly to her body that towered over my small form. I didn't know how to react to the close contact as I had never had affection from another girl similar to my age. I was used to the name calling and shoves here and there in the school corridor. It was slightly unnerving as I forced myself to keep calm.

"Emily you've got to be careful," Oliver scolded his sisters as she finally released me and I slumped a little where I stood.

"I know what I'm doing," she said with a roll of her eyes.

I stood awkwardly at the bottom of the stairs not knowing what to do or say as the two of them began to argue. Then Jason joined in adding his input to the argument which only seemed to make it worse as their voices increased and they began to bicker loudly.

"Shut up!" Oliver spoke loudly sounding exhausted as they stopped arguing. "Logan told us to only stop by and he's already expecting us back."

"Right," Emily spoke with a nod of her head, "I'm Emily and I know your Esme, Logan's mate."

"Hi," I muttered with a weak smile as she introduced herself.

It seemed that she already knew a lot about me whereas I knew little to nothing about her. Logan had told me that his younger sister was a part of a neighbouring pack as she had joined it when she found her mate; the Beta of that pack. That was all I knew as it seemed at the time he didn't want to talk about her and I didn't know why. I hadn't thought it was polite to ask as he would have told me if he wanted to.

I watched as they all winced, their eyes closed while they gritted their teeth together. I frowned as I took a small step forward as if it to reach out to them to see if they were alright as they all seemed to be in pain. Before I could ask if they were okay they all opened their eyes, their pupils dilated and their eyes seemed to be darker than normal. I had learned that this meant their wolves were close to the surface and I took a step back in surprise.

"We're sorry Esme; Logan's having a fit through the pack link," Oliver told me with an apologetic smile on his face.

I know understood why they had all winced and it didn't surprised me that Logan was obviously throwing a fit. As soon as they had said that Logan had sent them over I knew that they were on a strict time schedule that they had to stick to and so I knew that they would have to leave now.

"I understand," I told him with a small smile.

"We'll be back later, don't worry about that," Jason told me with a smile.

"Promise!" Emily squealed as she once again pulled me into a hug this time shorter and not as tight which allowed me to breathe.

"Okay," I muttered as I watched the three of them back away towards the door.

"See you soon," Emily said with a small wave as Jason shut the door in her face.

I shook my head as I began to make my way through the house and towards the kitchen. Although the visit of the three siblings was short it was nice to see them and meet Emily for the first time. She seemed nice and although she had a lot of energy I knew that she was fun. I wanted to see her again when I wasn't standing there in only her brother t-shirt that had probably given her the wrong idea.

I began to make breakfast for myself as Logan had left early. He had come into my room and gently shook me awake telling me he was off and asked if I wanted to eat breakfast. I had glanced at the clock on the bedside table and quickly shook my head once I saw that it was barely six o'clock. Logan had left with a quiet chuckle and small wave goodbye.

It would be impossible trying to get back to sleep as I had woken up twice already and the excitement of seeing Jason and Oliver and meeting Emily had woken me up to the point where I wouldn't be able to sleep any time soon.

I made my way around the kitchen opening and closing cupboard doors. I had been in the house for almost a week and Logan had always been adamant that he would be the one to make us breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was surprised when I had found out that Logan could actually cook and I had yet to feel ill from eating his food.

I settled on the stool by the island in the centre of the kitchen with a plate of toast and jam in front of me while I cradled a cup of tea in my hands. It had been a while since I had been alone and left to my thoughts as I had always been busy with decorating my room which was almost finished. Logan had to help with fitting the lights and then it would be finished as the only source of light now came from the lamp on the bedside table.

I washed the now empty plate and mug in the sink before leaving it on the draining rack to dry. I couldn't spend my day decorating like I normally would as Logan had asked me not to play with the electricity in case I hurt myself. It didn't matter what Logan had said as I had no idea how or what I would have to do.

I walked back through the living room, my eyes glued to the cream carpet under my feet as I made my way through the house. A white envelop on the floor in front of the door caught my attention as I walked over to it. I hadn't heard the letter box being opened or closed while I was in the kitchen or a knock at the door to signal that a letter had been posted.

I bent down and picked up the white envelop turning it over in my hands to see that it had Logan's name and what I guessed was his address written on it in fancy writing. Each letter was perfectly curved and flicked making the black ink look elegant and beautiful against the white paper. I guessed that the pack had its own postal system as there was no other way of the envelope getting to Logan's house from what I had seen.

I returned to my bedroom with the envelope still in my hands. There was nothing I could do today but sit and watch telly or read a book, the smell of paint was slowly starting to give me a headache and I needed fresh air.

I quickly changed out of Logan's oversized t-shirt and into a pair of jeans and a jumper, a scarf wrapped around my neck and my coat over the top. I allowed my hair to fall freely from the hair band and down my back as I grabbed the letter from where I had put it on my bed and made my way back down the stairs.

I needed fresh air as I had rarely stepped outside of Logan's house since arriving here. I knew that the chances of getting attacked by rogues were slim as we had been on the border's edge that day. I would only be walking from Logan's house to the pack house which would be full of pack members.

I slipped on the shoes that I had left by the front door with ease before opening the door and stepping outside, the cold autumn wind blowing it shut behind me. I breathed out slowly watching as a cloud of fog formed in front of my face before making my way down the steps with a small smile.

Being outside felt nice after so long of seeing the same walls every day. I pulled my coat tighter around myself, the letter addressed to Logan still in my hands as I began the short walk. I passed a few pack members who all bowed their heads slightly as I passed; some had stopped and introduced themselves before starting a small conversation. It was nice to be treated so kindly, it made me feel normal.

I could remember when Logan had first walked me down the street. I shook my head as I remembered how different things had been back then. I had been scared of Logan; I was terrified of knowing that werewolves were real and that a werewolf was constantly trying to touch me. The werewolf village was still as beautiful as is had been in the dark that night.

I would never have thought at the time that I would have a werewolf father making me some sort of hybrid.

I took the steps up the pack house two at a time as I felt myself shiver from the cold. I slowly opened the door unsure of whether I should have knocked or not as I shut it quietly behind me. I knew where Logan would be as he would remind me every morning that if I needed him I could find him in his office which was on the top floor with the dark brown door. I slipped off my shoes and began to make my way through the house.

I could hear the sound of people talking, laughing and even people shouting but I knew from what I could hear that it wasn't anything serious. I made my way up the many stairs until I reached the top floor. I had never been in this part of the pack house. I walked slowly along the landing staring at the many different pictures on the wall until I stood in front of the only brown coloured door on the floor.

I raised my hand and gently knocked onto the hard wood.

"Come in," I heard Logan call from behind the door.

I grasped the cold brass door handle and gently turned it. I was surprised that Logan had heard my knocking as it had been so weak that I had struggled to hear it myself. I pushed the door all the way open and stepped inside. I was surprised at how big Logan's office was as I took in the wall covered in books; a sofa was placed with its back in front of the windows. The desk that Logan sat behind was huge with two armchairs in front of it. The room was impressive; everything about the decoration and layout told me how serious the room was and I was a little intimidated.

"Esme." Logan sounded surprised to see me as I stopped looking around to see that he was already standing up from his chair and making his way towards me with a smile on his face. I hadn't missed how his eyes had swept over me as if he was checking to see if I was injured in anyway.

"Uh hi," I muttered nervously as I stared at the other guy in the room that occupied one of the arm chairs, "I hope I'm not interrupting anything, I can come back later?"

Logan smiled and shook his head as he stopped in front of me, "It's about time for a break anyway."

"Oh," I said with a small smile.

The sound of someone's throat being cleared had me looking away from Logan's chocolate coloured eyes that had drawn me in and towards the other male in the room that was now standing with a huge grin on his face as his pale blue eyes darted between the two of us.

"Esme this is Samuel, my best friend and Beta," Logan introduced Samuel who was now holding his hand out for me to shake, "Samuel this is Esme, my little mate and Luna."

I found myself looking up at Logan. I was looking for his permission to shake Samuel's outstretched hand. I could see the approval flash in his eyes and he nodded his head with an encouraging smile. I faced Samuel once again and slowly placed my hand in his. His hand was much bigger than mine as it seemed to swallow my child sized hand right up. I was sure that my hand was a lot colder than his.

"It's a pleasure to finally meet you," Samuel told me and I could hear the honesty in his voice.

"You too," I replied sending him a small smile as I pulled my hand back and took the letter in both of my hands again.

"What's that?" Logan asked as I saw him eyeing the letter in my hands.

"Oh, it was posted this morning and it has your name on it so I thought I'd bring it to you," I told him nervously as I handed him the letter.

Logan frowned slightly but took the letter from my hands. I watched as he read the fancy writing on the front before turning it over and ripping the top of the letter all the way across the top. He reached inside the envelope and pulled out a folded piece of paper before unwrapping it. Samuel stepped closer so that he was on the other side of Logan to read the letter over his shoulder. I was curious as to what was written in the letter but I didn't want to be rude.

Logan growled loudly, the sound vibrating through his chest as I jumped back and away from him. I could feel my heart pounding against my chest and my hands started to shake at my sides as Samuel growled loudly. It was clear that whatever was on the letter had angered both Logan and Samuel who were still reading the letter over and over again while growling angrily.

"Logan," I whispered. I didn't want to anger him further, "what's wrong?"

Logan instantly looked up at me at the sound of my voice. His brown eyes softening and he took a few steps towards me until he was standing directly in front of me. His hand hesitantly reached up so that it is lightly cupping my cheek, his palm covering the entire side of my face as his thumb gently rubbed across my cheek bones. His other hand went to my waist as he pulled me towards him, a gasp escaping my lips as my body collided with his.

I was surprised that I hadn't flinched or pulled away from Logan's touch as tingles danced across my sensitive skin, butterflies had gathered in my stomach and I suddenly felt safe.

The paper that had been in his hand was knocked out when my body slammed in to his causing it to fall to the floor. Logan growled loudly as he released me and reached for the letter trying to hide what was written on the paper but it was too late.

The blood seemed to drain from my face as my stomach dropped. I suddenly felt sick as my gut twisted and churned, the jam on toast I had eaten this morning didn't seem like such as good idea. My hands were shaking furiously at my side as I blinked away the tears that had suddenly gathered in my eyes.

I shook my head from side to side as I tried to get rid of the writing scribbled across the paper in familiar handwriting. It was no use, the letters were written in black in handwriting that I had known since I first began to read. I had hoped that I would never have to have anything to do with him again but I was wrong.

He had found us and he wasn't going to let us go.

I closed my eyes tightly as the letter continued to appear behind my eye lids.

'Keep her safe Alpha Logan,
I'm coming for her, for them.
I'll have them again,
I don't know when, I don't know how, but I will.
And I'm never going to let them go.'
