I've been doing patrols more and more in the last week. It's a great way to keep myself distracted when I'm not doing work for the community home or going to school. It makes me feel good and even though I am put in some pretty dangerous situations it calms me down.
On the other hand, they are trying harder to find me. I don't think they know much about me or have literally any idea who I am but still, just thinking about it makes bubbles of anxiety rise in my chest. The only person who has the information on Spiderman is J Jonah Jameson and even what he has is close to nothing.
Then again, we are talking about freaking Tony Stark.
I don't want to talk them but it's getting harder and harder to avoid them. No matter how many times they say they want to talk I will not fall for it. We can set up a phone call or something if they want it that bad.
I still see them searching for me nearly every night. I've done a better job at making it so I can easily disappear from their sight if they were to look in my direction.
I shake the thought and my mind wonders in the other direction. Miss Theodora needed my help this morning, we had to set up a session for a couple because they wanted to come in for an appointment on Friday to look at the children. Chances on them picking one out are pretty low based on what they were saying but we need to give everyone a chance and we aren't going to turn down someone from trying to give a kid a home.
I take a deep breath and look at the city in front of me. New York is honestly such a beautiful place when you look past all of the crime. But that's my job. It's my job to let people look at New York and not have to deal with the crime.
I watch the cars on the street go by, they look like little bugs from up here.
I think I know how the Avengers are trying to find me. I think that they have a schedule for each Avenger to come and try to look for me. I don't know how long this schedule has been going on but I know, if I am right, that tonight Iron Man and Captain America are going to put.
It's common knowledge that after the Civil War between the two, they somehow made up. The story I have personally heard is that the Winter Solider did something and Tony Stark had managed to forgive him over time. Stark and Rogers are said to be friends now and I believe it because why would they work together if they didn't get along?
I swing away from the building besides the orphanage and start to look for some bad guys. Today is definitely one of the slower days for crime around the city which is great. It's around five thirty and all I have caught is a guy stealing a very nice woman's purse. She bought me a churro and then later on I caught a guy who was terrible at robbing a store.
I was just about to call it a night when my spider senses start to go crazy and I sigh, turning around. I want to go back to the home, I have work I need to finish. What is it now?
I gasp lightly and feel my jaw drop when I see him in front of me. I want to jump up and down because I was right. Let's go!
"Oh my god! You're Iron Man!" I yell excitedly as I stare right at the epically famous red and gold suit that is so well known. It looks so much cooler then it does on television or when someone tries to drawl it. If I could, I would totally spend hours trying to learn how to build the suit on my own.
"Kid, you need to come with us." Iron Man speaks through his mask thingy and I look around before noticing he is talking to me. Iron Man is talking to me! I blink and come back to my senses. The Avengers want to 'talk' to Spiderman, it's probably not a good thing that he is talking to me. There is absolutely no way that I was actually going with them.
"Whoops, sorry no can do." I shrug not really caring and step back slightly, keeping my eyes on him as I near the ledge but it's still pretty far. "See unlike playboys this little spider has a bed time, so if you don't mind me," I say and look down at my hands, getting ready to swing off but I feel my senses go off once again. I sigh as I duck and I turn to find that Captain freaking America has just thrown his freaking shield at me.
Rude much.
"You know it's not nice to throw stuff at strangers, right?" I ask as I try to think of a plan of how I can get back to the community home while also getting away from them.
"Ok, kid, that's it." Iron Man says as he started to fire his repulsed at me. Wow, that escalated fast.
"Woah, woah, woah!" I jump back, easily dodging the repulsed blast but as I back up I find myself running into something. I frantically try to get away from it but find it impossible.
It, more like he, grabs me and holds onto me making me struggle more. I look over my shoulder to see Captain America has a nice grip on me around my neck and it doesn't seem like he will not let go of me willingly.
"Come on man, what did I even do to you?" I ask, knowing I've been caught. How could I have been so dumb? I try to squirm free out of the Captain's grip but I'm at an extremely bad angle and can't find a good escape route from his arms. Iron Man walks over to the Captain and I try to think of more ways to try and get away.
"Kid, you're coming with us." Iron Man says as his mask thingy life's up revealing Tony Stark as if that's going to change my mind about going with them. Think, think, think.
"I have a question," I say and Tony looks at me waiting for me to ask. "What time is it?" I ask cocking my head to the side and they both seem to freeze. I almost laugh at the confused looks that cover their faces.
Tony gives me a weird look before he answers.
"Seven thirty."
I huff annoyed. I planned on getting back to the community home by at least six thirty but now I'm an hour late.
"Great," I mutter and say out loud and see Tony look at the Captain with a confused look that just keeps getting more confused but I don't care. "I'm late now, so now I ask you kindly. Please let me go." I say and knowing that I need to get back to the home and do my share around there. I feel the Captain's grip on me loosen and see my opportunity; I quickly push through his arms, grinning to myself, and running down the building.
I shoot my webs and do a couple of my newly learned tricks, throwing Iron Man and Captain off my tracks before making my way to the community home as fast as possible. I look behind myself a few times, panicking when I think someone is coming after me but when one does I let my guard down.
I land on the ground behind the community home and change into some normal clothes. I sneak into the home and smile a little when I see everyone is in the living room or in their rooms. Most of the younger kids are to be put into their rooms by eight and expected to be asleep within an hour but kids can be stubborn so usually they don't fall asleep until ten.
I walk up the stairs and go to my room to see Jason is in there watching Netflix on our television. He looks up to greet me with a small nod. I return it, look at the papers on the desk and decide that I should take a shower before the girls use all of the water.
"Be back," I say and he nods as the next episode of The Office comes on. "This again?" I ask laughing.
"It's not my fault I have a personality," He shoots back and we both laugh. It's something we talk about often, how he watches the same shows over and over while I can't watch a show for more then one season unless it's really good.
Once I'm in the hall with everything I need I see Miss Thea walking towards me, a small smile on her face when she sees me.
"Peter," She says and I turn towards her again. "Some mail was delivered today, I'm just going to put it on your desk ok? Also can I discuss the meeting for the new parents with you in the morning?" She asks quickly and I try to Oxus on her words but my mind is moving too fast so I simply nod.
She leaves and goes downstairs as I return to going to the bathroom. I feel my muscles become less tense as soon as the warm water hits them.
I wish I could bring more to this home. I want to take care of the people in it but it's hard when we barely have enough money to feel the twenty or so of us after we pay for the bills. We don't even have enough money to fill in some of the cracks on the walls.
After my shower I make my way back to my room and am greeted by Jason who is munching on some popcorn.
"Want some?" He holds the bucket out for me.
"Where'd you get it from?" I ask suspiciously and he shoots me a sly grin.
"I have my ways." He comments and shakes the bag a little holding it out for me still.
"Fair." I shrug and take a handful.
