Death dies...somehow
The day was that of a typical English winter. A small layer of snow had fallen, only to be melted at the touch of rain. The few robins who had dared brave the torrential weather were soon forced back to their nests. Ice had formed on the road.
My shift at the local zoo had just ended, where I acted as a foster mother to any orphaned young. That day, I had just been assigned to care for a rather unusual lion cub, as she was pitch black. After settling her down in a padded box, I strapped it in on the front seat of my hand-me-down Beetle, which I had painted to look like Bumblebee from the original Transformers cartoon.
Ten minutes into my drive home, a translucent wolf stood in the middle of the road. As I swerved to avoid the creature, my tires hit a patch of ice, making me lose control. Just as I had regained control, a loud thud echoed through my head. Slamming on the breaks, I jumped out and looked behind the vehicle. My eyes widened as I saw a teenage boy who was a similar age to me sprawled out on the floor, a broken skateboard beside him. Swearing like a sailor, I ran over to the brunette and brushed his hair away from his eyes. Those eyes were cold, glazed over and full of death. Pulling down the neck of his scythe crested sweater, I searched for a pulse. But there was none to be found.
Before I had a chance to call for an ambulance, he burst into a flurry of Chrysanthemum petals. I stared in awe until the ground started to vibrate and crack. From three of those cracks, skeletons dressed in guard uniforms rose. One went to my car, lifting the box with the lion cub in out. The other two guards grabbed my arms and forced them behind my back.
"You are in so much trouble..." one chartered, it's voice shrill.
"Wh-Why?"
"You just killed Death" the second replied, it's voice similar to dragging your nails down a blackboard, sending a shiver down my spine.
