Before any of the family knew it, nearly two months had sneaked by. All was well for the Cullen's, Hale's, and Hunter; Maddie was more or less healed from all her injuries, though she had many new scars to add to her collection. She had also become very familiar with each family member, bonding with them and not being as hesitant to allow someone to embrace her or pat her on the shoulder; they were pleasantly surprised to learn that the young human was actually a fan of hugs, but was just too use to having any physical contact end with some form of pain thanks to her previous guardian - they were working on that. Today, however, was a good day as it was the first day of their two weeks off from school; Carlisle had also booked the first week off from work so that he could spend some time with his family. To celebrate, they had planned a small party for them and their two werewolf friends. "Alright" Bella smiled as she pushed her phone back into her pocket from making a call "Jacob and Seth are definitely coming tomorrow" she confirmed; her daughter, happy she'd be seeing her two friends, asked if she and Maddie could go into the woods for a bit. Smiling, Carlisle nodded his head "just be home before six" he instructed before the two girls rushed to put their shoes on and ran out of the house, yelling out their goodbyes to the others before they were out of sight; it was certainly an amusing thing to laugh at. Once they were a fair distance away from their home, the girl's switched from running to walking to regain their breaths "so what do you want to do first??" Maddie asked, earning a few moments of silence as Renesmee thought about her answer "want to have a tree climbing race??" she suggested; the human rose a brow "do I, a human, want to have a tree climbing race with you, a half vampire who can move extremely fast??" she asked sarcastically, earning a laugh from her friend before shrugging "sure, why not??". After finding a large and climbable tree, the two friends counting to three before beginning their race; it was easy and within five minutes, they were high up - passed the halfway mark, that was for sure. Feeling her arms begin to ache, Maddie called for her friend stop so that they could take a break and admire the view; Renesmee mumbled out "it never gets old" as she stared out at the scenery before them.

Deciding to climb down as what they were doing was actually rather dangerous - well it was dangerous for the human at least - the two fifteen year olds carefully clung to each branch as they passed; Maddie, however, lost her footing as the branch she had stood on began to break, forcing her off of the branch to where she fell over a hundred and a half feet towards the branch. Yelling out for her friend in complete horror, Renesmee sped up her climbing process but knew she wouldn't be fast enough thanks to her human side. Screaming out in her own fear, Maddie watched as the forest ground grew closer and closer at a speed that was faithful; she curled up as much as she could, closing her eyes tightly as she waited for the pain of the impact that may just be the end of her. The seconds passed and yet....the pain wasn't there...but there were a pair of arms - one behind her back and the other under her knees - now holding her to someone's body. Opening her hesitant and confused eyes, Maddie looked up to see a girl, the same age as her - maybe a little older - but....her eyes matched the Cullen's and Hale's when they had their coloured contacts in. Was she a vampire?? That would explain how she was able to catch the human from such a full without getting hurt herself. "Maddie!!" Renesmee yelled out as she finally reached the ground herself "are you alright?!" she asked as she rushed over; the stranger carefully placed the human down onto her feet as Maddie reassured her friend that she was fine, only to be contradicted by her weak legs giving way. Thankfully, the random girl was close enough to quickly catch and return her to her arms once again "no you're not" she stared blankly; she looked up to the half vampire "come on, I'll take you both home" she instructed, earning a nod from Renesmee who lead the way. As they made their way through the forest, Maddie couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed by the situation which forced her to be carried by a random stranger, yet she couldn't deny that she felt a sense of....safety being within her arms. Soon enough, they reached the house where the family all came running out, worry covering their faces as they gathered around "are you okay?!" Edward asked as he checked over his daughter for any injuries who nodded before being pulled into her parent's arms; they entered the house where the stranger sat Maddie down on one of the sofas within the living room before standing back.

"What the hell happened?!" Esme asked, concern still strong as she ran her fingers through the human's hair "Alice had a vision of you falling and Renesmee screaming out for you". Hesitant to tell the stupid story of their tree climbing accident, Maddie explained as little as possible "we were climbing down a tree and I lost my footing when....she saved me" she nodded towards the silent stranger; all eyes turned towards the slightly older teenager as Carlisle held out his hand to them "it's good to see your again Turner" he smiled "and thank you saving Maddie from the fall". Taking the man's hand, the two quickly embraced, followed by his wife who also appeared happy to see Maddie's saviour. This confused the two youngest members of the group. "Hold up" Renesmee spoke with a raised brow "you know her??" she asked earning a multiple of nods; Edward introduced the stranger as Selena Turner "she's an old friend of ours" he explained. Thinking momentarily, Maddie looked towards the girl who was known as Selena as she realised her thoughts from before must have been right "her eyes" she commented as she continued to stare at the older girl, catching everyone's attention "she's a vampire" it was more of a statement but it still earned a nod as Emmitt made a familiar comment "fast learner". As they all sat down, Selena began to talk "so I get a call saying you lot need my help" she began "well I'm here, wanna explain to me what's going on?" she asked "and why the hell do you have a human living with you?" that was a particular question that she just needed to know. Rosalie took the lead and began to explain, starting with the night of the break in two months ago. Speaking up, Carlisle jumped in and revealed how they had received many more notes, all threatening Maddie without missing the opportunity to mention her blood "but we still don't know who's leaving them". Both Maddie and Renesmee shared a look of shock and disbelief as they had no knowledge of any of this; they only knew of the note that the human herself had found in her bedroom on her desk!! "Why didn't you tell us?!" Renesmee asked, earning a sigh from her mother "we didn't want to worry either of you" she insisted. Emmitt folded his arms over his chest as he nodded in agreement "but the notes are turning up too frequent that it's becoming difficult to keep from you" he admitted.

Nodding at what she was hearing, Selena asked if they had any idea of who might be leaving the notes for them to find, only for the vampires to shake their heads "too many vampires to choose from" Alice sighed with a bitter chuckle. Selena asked to see the notes they were speaking of. Within a minute, Esme returned to the living room with a small box; she handed it over and they all silently watched as the young woman went through some of them. Maddie certainly didn't feel any better after seeing how many there were; there had to be at least forty! Whoever wanted her dead was sure persistent. Placing the box onto the table, Selena folded her arms over her chest "so your little human is in danger" she summed up plainly "why have you asked me here?" she questioned; Jasper explained their plan to hunt the threatening vampire and put an end to them "but we need someone capable of protecting Maddie to stay with her whilst we're gone". Realising what they were asking, Selena chuckled as she shook her head "let me get this straight...you want me to babysit a human whilst you lot go and find out who's been threatening her?" she asked, almost amused by their request. Rolling her eyes at the vampire, Maddie spoke up "I don't need a babysitter" she stated, catching her saviour's attention as their eyes met once more "but I do need a protector and they believe and trust that you can be that person". It was an intense moment, especially as Maddie asked one final question "are you?". Ten seconds passed by with complete silence as the two teenage girls continued to stare at one another before Selena nodded, turning away towards Carlisle "alright, I'll do it" she agreed, earning many thanks. The human stood from her seat and told the group that she was going to go take a nap; her heart was still hammering within her chest from the deadly fall. Or, at least, that's what she was telling herself.

Later that night, Maddie found herself sat on her bed, typing away on the laptop that Esme had bought her when she noticed, in the corner of her eye, someone jump in and through her open window; a better look allowed her to realise it was Selena. "Christ!!" Maddie exclaimed "you nearly gave me a great attack!!" it only earned a smirk from the older teen who apologised, though her voice was filled with far too much amusement for it to be sincere. Moving the desk chair so that it was closer to the bed, Selena took a seat as she asked why a family of vampires would take in a human "what makes you so different, so special, from everyone else?" she questioned; Maddie chuckled "I'm not special" she stated as she closed her laptop and placed it on top of the pillow beside her - it earned a raised brow "and they took me in because....I was in a bad place with they met me". Confused and feeling slightly uneasy, Selena remained silent as she let the human continue "my last foster dad....he wasn't....the best exactly" she worded; the vampire pressed on, asking in what way was the man 'not the best'. It earned a sigh as Maddie explained how John was neglectful and abusive, earning a horrified wide-eyed reaction "what?! What did he do to you?!" she asked. For the next few hours, Maddie found herself explaining everything there was relating to her past to the new vampire that had saved her earlier that day; Selena listened silently and closely to all she was being told. "He is no human" she stated, hatred staining her voice "he is a monster" she declared; Maddie, chuckling at her reaction, agreed with a sigh - she could never and would never rid herself of the nasty and haunting memories of her dark past. Yawning for the fifth time within three minutes, Maddie deciding to call it a night; Selena stood and returned her seat to where she had found it "I guess I'll see you tomorrow" she said as she approached the door "good night". Smiling as she stood up to collect her pyjamas from the other side of the room, Maddie nodded at the vampire "good night, Selena" and with that, the older teenager left the bedroom with her cheeks burning ever so slightly. As she made her way downstairs, Selena was noticed by the family who were confused to see her descend from the upstairs as they thought she had gone out to hunt a few hours before "where have you been?" Bella asked with a raised brow; Selena sat down as she explained that she had been having a chat with their young human "it seems she's had quite the past" she admitted. They couldn't agree more. The young vampire asked when the family would leave to find and hunt the guy that was threatening Maddie down "we'll leave tomorrow at nine" Carlisle informed "we've planned a party, so we'll go afterwards".
