Ten Years Later
Although Marinette and Adrien had been given their gifts o the same day, no one suspected that they were each other's soulmate because people rarely got their gifts the same day as their soulmate. Tom and Gabriel's friendship was still a faded one, but Gabriel often used Toms's bakery for small meetings or gift baskets to big investors. So Adrien and Marinette grew up close, they were each other's best friend. They protected each other.
They were just children, but even as children their gifts were fully developed, Marinette was the perfect daughter, everyone was jealous and wondered how the busy bakers Tom and Sabine raised an angle of a daughter. Marinette was still too young to understand what her gift was. She didn't notice that she could not not do what she was told, see at ten years old she still wanted to be a good girl, and her friends were good kids so she didn't notice.
At age ten Adrien was a kind boy, his father had yet to train his son to be the man he wanted him to be. Adrien was always quick to help and take care of someone. He couldn't explain it but he just knew what people needed. So even when his father was cold and harsh and awful, Adrien knew it was caused by his father's deep loss. So he did his best to be a good boy and do what his father asked.
It was a few weeks before Adrien 11 birthday and his father had just given him some news. He wanted to talk to his best friend about it, so he begged Nathalie to take him to the bakery. He had learned how to make Nathalie feel sorry for him, though he rarely used it against her. This had not gone unnoticed by his father.
So, of course, Nathalie agreed, they drove to the bakery and Nathalie got permission to take Marinette to the park with Adrien. Tom and Sabine never said no to Adrien, they felt sorry for him and knew that their little girl gave him so much joy.
The children ran and sat under their favourite tree, "Adrien, why do you look so sad?" Marinette hated to see her best friend so sad.
"Father gave me some news today." the boy looked down at his feet, "He said after my birthday he is going to start showing me the business. I have to start modelling very weekend and attending business lunches so that way when I'm a grown-up I'll be ready to work with him."
"Well Adrien that doesn't sound so bad, you like modelling don't you?" he nodded, "Well then at least that will be fun!" Marinette smiled at him, hoping that would cheer him up.
"That's not the problem Marinette! The problem is that I'm ten and my father is planning my life for me! I like being a model, it's fun, but I don't want to be a businessman. And even if I did want to be one can't I wait until I'm all grown up to deiced what I want to be!"
Marinette placed her small hand on his back, she felt bad what could she say? Her life was great, how could she complain or compare to his life. But she didn't have to come up with anything because he continued. "Like you help out in the bakery right?" she nodded, "Well you don't want to be a baker when you grow up. Right?" She didn't answer right away. "Tell me Marinette who do you want to be when you're all grown up?"
Marinette, of course, had no choice but to tell him, "I want to be a fashion designer, I love the work you dad does. And I've been practicing, and someday I'll design close and have my own brand like your dad!"
Adrien looked at his best friend, "Promise me that no matter how famous we both get we will stay friends and that if you ever get to have that famous brand you'll let me be a model for you." he held out his hand asking for her to pinky promise.
"I promise, Adrien I will always be your best friend. And if I get to be a big designer I'll make sure that we work together." she locked her pinky with his. She smiled and giggled and then helped him up and they ran off together and played. Clueless to what the future would do to them.
