Dream Big
AN: I added a paragraph to the start of the last chapter, it just makes the timeline make more sense.
Mariette had been gone for two days and in those two days, Adrien had helped clear out the bakery and sold off any equipment that he wasn't going to need for a fashion boutique and had called in his contractor to help in choosing the new layout. He also had Ayla consulting to make sure that Mari would love any changes they made. The four-story building was easy to convert. What used to be the bakery was now going to be the boutique. What had been her parent's room and the bathroom was going to become the space for designing. What used to be the main part of the house was going to become a space for photoshoots and modelling. Mari's old room would now become her office and personal design space. Adrien almost but the designers on the third floor but decided the light was going to be better for photography.
He had chosen new colours, products to order, and found all the equipment and supplies for the upstairs space and then he bought stuff for Mari's office. He hadn't realized how fast he could work when he was happy about something. Sure it helped that he already had connections to the fashion world but he so shocked at how willing the people he knew where willing to work with him and his new venture.
However today it was Monday, today was the day he would call his cousin and sell his father's business. He sat and waited for the video feed to appear then the screen lit up, "Hello Felix."
"Hello Adrien." the boys laughed at there attempt at professionalism. "Okay now that we've acted like professionals, tell me how is your new life treating you, I saw on the news that you are CEO and newly married? How did ya manage that cousin? I didn't think Uncle would ever let you go."
Adrien laughed, Felix had been quite grumpy as a kid and teen, but Bridget, his soulmate had given him a smile he could not get rid of. "Well you know he's sick right?" Felix nodded, "Well that rush Mari's and I's wedding plans. And I played him, man. He has no clue what I'm about to do."
Felix raised his eyebrows, "Do tell."
"I tricked him, Felix, he has no clue what I'm about to do. But before I tell you to much I need to ask you something. I meant to talk to you about almost a year and a half ago. Father used you as a threat saying you had asked to take my place, is that true?"
Felix's face fell, "Is that what he said, no I didn't ask to take your place, I asked to work with you. Take more of the company to London, give you more freedom... I know I'm a few years older than you and it would have met waiting for me but in the few times we spoke I knew you weren't happy. And I wanted to help. "
"Well, that take makes this easier." Adrien hit send on the email he had waiting. "Read it and tell me what you think." Adrien smiled as Felix's face went from confused to shocked to honoured.
"Adrien are you sure? You want to sell me the company?"
"Yes Felix I am sure, my gift is meant for helping people. Not changing people. Mari has dreamed of having her own brand all her life and I want to make that a reality. She wants to help young designers like herself. And I want to make that dream a reality. But I can't do that if I'm running father's company. So I'm asking you to take the company base and move it to London, keep a part of the branch here and keep as many people employed as you can. I can stay on as supervisor if you wanted, but my main focus would be Mari's business."
"Adrien, your father is gonna kill you. You know that right? He dislikes me." Felix looked down.
"I don't care what he thinks, you are better for this job then I am. I have can't see that then he doesn't understand business." Adrien's face was firm.
"Man Adrien, I like this version of you better, you have a real backbone. Not the fake one you had with your father."
"I'm gonna credit that to Mom and Dad." Adrien smiled fondly.
"Your in-laws?"
"Ya, they are the best. But what do you say? You already ran a small office in London. It will take some time to transfer things over but I'll work with you until I can just supervise."
"Adrien nothing would make me happier. However, I see you here that I can change allow me to change the name, I have a suggestion." Adrien nodded wanting to hear it, "A&G Industries. Paying honour to both our families. Our mothers are twins and both modelled and when your mother was alive they all worked together on Agreste Industries, all three of them helped changed the fashion world."
Tears swelled in Adirens eyes, "I think that is great, and maybe when father no longer lives in the mansion we could turn it into a museum for there impact on fashion. I wish I could have spent more time with your mother and you growing up, I think it would have been good. I would have learned more about my mom."
"Well if I'm gonna take over, I imagine there will be a trip or two to Paris, I'm sure my wife and mom would both like to come."
"Mari and I would like that. She would love to meet more of my family." Adrien email dinged and he saw that Felix signed the paper. He made notes of the things he wanted to change.
"I say we write a press release right now and go public with the information as soon as possible so I can get things moving." Felix smiled.
"I think we should do it in two parts. Then we can film it and pass it on to the news outlets. Our marketing guy can whip it together real fast." Adrien and Felix continued to talk and plan and had the video ready to go for the nightly news run.
-Meanwhile in China-
Mari was having a great time remeeting her family in China and sharing stories. She had helped put her cousin's kids to bed when her mom called her to the living room. "Mari come see Adrien is on the news!" Mari ran to her mother's side.
"We have a special announcement video from the new CEO for Agreste Industries," Nadja said with a smile.
A video from the Adirens office appeared on the screen. "Hello everyone. Today I have a very special announcement. As many of you know I grew up modelling and loved it. I tried to purse business but modelling has always been my passion. So because of that, and with the support of my board, I have decided to pass on the role of CEO to my cousin Felix. We are going to become partners and change the name of the company to A&G Industries. As part of our deal, the headquarters will move to London and Felix will handle more business so I can continue to model."
Mari was proud of Adrien but shocked she'd heard nothing about it. But she didn't have time to think about it, because she felt sick to her stomach and ran to the bathroom. She threw up and then sat for a few minutes on the bathroom floor.
Her mom knocked and entered the bathroom. "Marinette dear? Was the news that bad?" She sat on the tub ledge.
"No mom I just suddenly felt nauseous." She sat there breathing heavily.
"Marinette, are you late by chance?"
"MOM! What ar...." then she stopped, she was late. She pulled out her phone, by almost three weeks! Had she been that busy that she hadn't noticed? "Is anyone else sick?"
Her mom laughed softly, "No dear, just you. And I'm not sure your sick." She stocked her hair. Mari placed her head in her mom's lab.
"Mom, do you think I could be?" Mari looked up, dare she say it out loud.
"There is only one way to find out dear." Sabine smiled knowingly.
