And Action
As soon as they got home, Mari needed to nap, while she was feeling better after her talk with Tiki, she wasn't completely okay yet. So sleep called her, and she willingly answered. Adrien went next door to visit his best friends.
He knocked and walked in. "Hey bro bringing back the car keys?" Nino called to him from the kitchen.
"Kinda? I also need to chat?" Adrien tossed the keys in the dish by the door.
"No Mari? This must be a big thing. What did you do?" Ayla teased.
"I wish I could continue the joke. But actually... I did mess up."
"Bro... How bad?" Nino looked almost disappointed.
"How? You literally just got home yesterday!" Ayla put her hands on her hips.
"Mari found out something from my past that I hid from her. And neither of slept in our bed last night."
"Dude..."
"We talked this morning that was part of why we needed your car. And I well I need your help to make things right. Or at least better."
"I need to know what you hid first....." Alya's death glare rivalled Mari's at this point.
"She found out that I was Chat." Adrien waited for the reaction.
"So the golden boy is also the player. Ya, I can see that being hard for her to take. Okay, so what's the plan?" Alya's anger left as quickly as it arrived.
"I need to get full control of the Agrest company. So I need to outplay my father. So if I get a copy with the paperwork, will you help me find loopholes to jump through to get it? The rest i can handle I just need to outplay my father."
"Mr. I can ready anyone, master manipulator, is finally gonna use those skills on the old man eh? About dam time! Let's do it!" Nino high fived Adrien.
"I for one am on board. Let me research the hell out of that paper we will free you too yet! But important question are you telling Mariette?" Ayla leaned back.
"Not yet. See I have a surprise for her, but if I can't pull it off I don't want to dash her hopes."
"So you're inviting your wife over here for supper and telling us everything so we can be helpful right?" Nino smiled.
Adrien agreed, shot Mari a text and the group sat down in the living room and talked.
After days of planing and going over notes, Adrien and Alya found just the loop whole they were looking for. "Marinette, schedule me a meeting with father, I need to have a word with that man."
"Yes sir!" Mari saluted and giggled. He had let Mari in on the part of the plan, she knew they were looking for a way out. She looked forward to turning Agrest Industries into the Agrest Foundation. She knew it would take time but she couldn't wait.
Two days later Adrien dressed in his best suit, with Marinette in tow when to his father's hospital room, he was hooked up to machines 24/7 now. He was still able to think and talk on his own, but his heart grew weaker. Some days were better, but most were worse. The doctors told Adrien that if his fathers didn't lessen his stress levels soon, he wouldn't live till the end of the year.
"Father." Adrien nodded.
"Son." His father returned the action.
"Marinette. I'd like you to leave." Adrien didn't look at her.
"But Love, this meeting is about the company, it concerns me too, I'm the head designer."
"We are in a business meeting, that is sir to you. And I'm in charge of the business side of things. This meeting does not concern you. You think just because you are my wife that entitles you to some kind say in things? Leave." Mari spoke no words and left the room.
"Son, I'm impressed your backbone has returned to you. Very good. Natalie take your leave as well. This is clearly a father and son conversation. " She nodded and also left the room. "So son, what do you want?"
"Father according to company policies if the CEO is too ill to take care of the company properly, the company president is to replace him. And He has some around a view times asking about you, so I thought it would serve us both if you sign over the company to me. Give me full control. Let me take it places your illness won't let you."
"So you finally found the loop whole eh son? I've been waiting for a year now. But I knew you would need your backbone back to find it." His father smirked daring Adrien to call his bluff.
Only Adrien had deiced to stop avoiding reading his father and read him, and he knew his father was actually grateful, but also scared to let go. "Well father, I have an artery motive, you're sick, the stress of running this company has become too much for you and I want to spend time with you, and time with you're future grandchild." Adrien knew as much as his father was a hard man, his sickness had made him soft. And even though he was too much of a coward to admit it, he wanted more time. He just hoped his father wouldn't see through the lie.
"Grand... Child? Is she?" The hope on his face was to much for Adrien to lie to.
"No, but we are trying, and I want you to be there if we get lucky this time. So please, father let me take that stress off of you, and maybe, just maybe you can get out of here, and maybe even marry Natalie," he smirked as his father went to respond. "Father, I can read anyone, I've seen how you two look at each other, your both just scared. I know you loved mom and she was your soulmate, but she would have wanted you to live your life not hide behind it. And you know Natalie's soulmate left her for another year ago, that's why she stayed with us. It would be okay for you to find love again, who knows it might even make your heart stronger."
He walked to the door leaving his father slack-jawed. "Have Natalie send the paperwork to my office and we will get the job done." He looked back and his father just nodded. "I'll come by tomorrow and we will chat about something other than work for a change.
The papers where on his desk that afternoon and the news had gone public that evening. Adrien was officially CEO of his father's company. That night when Adrien got home much later than intended he was ready for a cuddled with his wife. The rolling playing with his father had taken more out of him then he had thought. How had he been like that all the time before this? It was exhausting.
"Mare! I'm home." Nothing... he looked at his watch it was 11, but Mare was one to stay up late. "Hello? Love? Where are you?" He deiced she was asleep and walked down to their shared room. As he got closer he heard the shower, ah that's why she hadn't answered.
He changed out of his suit into some Pj pants. He had started looking for a shirt to wear when Mari stepped out of the bathroom. "Well, if it isn't Paris's newest CEO." She leaned against the door.
"Hey baby, we did it." He smiled.
"Yes, yes we did." Mari rung out her hair and put it up in a bun.
"Baby we are free. We can do whatever we want now. He can't stop us." Adrien shook his head and laughed. He felt like a weight had been lifted of his shoulders.
"Whatever we want eh?" Mari sauntered over to him, Adrien couldn't help but stare, his wife was just so damn beautiful. She leaned in and whispered in his ear, "Maybe we should celebrate." She then straddled him.
"Oh! So forward my lady." He placed his hands on her hips.
"Well, We haven't enjoyed ourselves since our honeymoon." she used figure quotes around honeymoon.
"Well, I'm not going to complain about a little celebration." Adrien pulled his wife close and kissed her like his life depend on it. "Goodness Marinette, I love you."
Mari leaned back, "Don't just tell me, lover boy, show me."
He smiled, "Gladly." He would show her his love tonight and over the next few weeks and months, he would really show her in another way.
