Chapter Twenty-Two
Jack’s P.O.V
I left Elsa to change and I peeked into Anna’s room. She was getting her hair done, and barely sitting still. She kept getting scolded by her maid. I chuckled and flew back to Elsa’s room. She was just leaving her room. I followed her, wondering what she was doing.
She went into her mother and father’s room. She looked up at a painting of her father. She bit her lip and looked down at a candlestick thingy and a jewelry box? I’m sure they meant something to them. She took her gloves off and picked them up. She turned around and acted like she was in the coronation. Where she held them ice covered them.
She set them down and put on her gloved, sighing. “It’s only for today.” She went to the window and looked out at the crowd gathering in the courtyard.
“It’s not that bad,” I said rolling my eyes playfully. Sometimes I forget she can’t hear or see me.
“It’s agony away.”
I laughed.
She went to the doors and opened them saying, “Tell the guards to open up the gates!”
I’ve never been to an actual party before. Or that I know of. I was in the corner of the room watching ladies and gentlemen start to dance to the catchy music with fascination. I wanted to join them, it looked like so much fun. But I remained where I was. No one would make sense if I accidentally froze something.
Suddenly I heard a man say, “Queen Elsa of Arendelle.” He gestured to Elsa, who was gracefully walking onto the stage. Everyone stopped what they were doing to bow to Elsa.
“Princess Anna of Arendelle.” I laughed when I saw Anna run out and awkwardly stand at the bottom of the stage waving to the guests. The man sighed with annoyance and lead Anna to stand by Elsa. He placed her right next to Elsa. The guests got up from their bowing positions to clap for the two royals. Anna and Elsa got into a conversation. Out of curiosity I walked over to them to listen to them.
“Hi,” Elsa said, smiling at Anna.
Anna jumped a little. “Hi-hi me?” Poor Anna. She didn’t know how to act in front of her older sister.
Elsa nodded.
“Oh! Um hi.”
“You look beautiful,” Elsa commented.
“Oh thank you. You look beautifuller. I mean not fuller but more… more beautiful.”
Elsa giggled. “Thank you.” I watched Elsa’s face. I saw her… happy. The most happy I’ve ever seen her. Like talking to Anna made her happier. She truly did care about her sister. “So this is what a party looks like.” Elsa gazed at all the guests milling around the room.
“It’s warmer then I thought,” Anna commented.
Elsa nodded in agreement. “What is that amazing smell?”
They both smelled the air. “Chocolate!” They said in unison, giggling. This was a whole personality switch. Before Elsa was quiet and reserved and now… she was actually making conversation to the girl she kept on ignoring! Maybe this was a change for the best.
“Your majesties,” the man, Kia I think someone called him, said, “the duke of Weaseltown.” A short older man stood in front of them.
“Weaselton,” The man said irritably. “Duke of Weselton, your majesty. As a your closest partner in trade, it seems only fitting that I offer you your first dance as queen.” The man did some funk dance moves and bowed. His white hair on top of his head falling off his head. I nearly died of laughter.
Elsa coughed. “Uh, thank you. Only I don’t dance.”
The Weaselton man frowned. “Oh.”
“But my sister does.” Anna laughed lightly.
“Oh lucky you,” He said, grabbed her arm.
“What?” Anna gasped. “Oh I don’t think-” He yanked her onto the dancing floor.
Elsa smiled, waving. “Sorry,” She said quietly.
I casually walked up to her so I stood beside her. “You know. I think I like Weaseltown better than Weaselton.”
Elsa spun around. “Who said that?”
“I did, obviously,” I said.
“Come out!” She ordered.
“I can’t. I’m standing right next to you.”
Elsa put her hand out and it went right through me. I shuttered. “Liar. I don’t see you or feel you.”
Just then Anna came up pulling her sleeve up on her dress. Elsa forgot all about me and giggled. “Well he was spritely.”
“Ah, Especially with a guy with heels!” She touched her foot.
“Are you okay,” Elsa asked with concern.
Anna laughed. “I’ve never been better. This is so nice. I wish this could be like this all the time.”
“Me too,” Elsa said. I noticed her eyes were full of longing. Her smile slowly turned into a frown. She turned away from her sister. “But it can’t.”
“Well why not?” Anna questioned. “I mean we-” Anna touched her sister’s shoulder.
“It just can’t,” Elsa snapped, jerking away from her. Anna stepped away. Both their faces filled with pain. Elsa because she wanted to stay close to her sister but can’t and Anna who just got rejected by her sister. Elsa took a deep breath.
“Excuse me for a minute,” Anna said, walking away. Tears welled in her eyes.
Elsa watched Anna walk away. Her eyes full of longing and regret.
Elsa’s P.O.V
There were so many emotions coursing through me. I watched Anna turn her back to me and walk away. I wanted to run to her and tell her I was sorry but I stood where I was. It was for the best.
“Wow, that went smooth.” I frowned and turned towards the voice.
“Where are you and who are you!” I asked exasperated. I’ve heard his voice so often but he was never in view. His voice was so familiar. I couldn’t place where I’ve heard it before.
“I am the Lord of the Frost and I am standing right next to you. Haven’t moved a muscle.”
I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. If your not going to show yourself I think I’m going to go socialize a bit.” I walked away and found the nearest guests. Leaving the mysterious voice behind.
“Elsa,” I heard Anna say. I turned away from the three gentlemen who I was chatting with. I was greeted with Anna and a strangely familiar man. “I mean my queen-” She curtsied clumsily, “Me again. May I present Prince Hans of the Southern Isles.” My body froze. So many questions popped into my mind. I looked him over. I didn’t necessarily recognize him although it was over five years ago. Was he spying on me for his older brother? Or was he just here for a visit.
“Your majesty,” Hans bowed. Anna and Hans looked at each other. I noticed Anna hanging on to Hans’s arm like he was her life support.
“We would like,” they said in unison, chuckling, “your blessing for our marriage.”
I jumped back in surprise. “Marriage?” I asked.
“Yes!” Anna nearly squealed.
My eyebrows knitted together. “I’m sorry. I’m confused.” Why was Anna wanting to marry Hans?
“Well we haven’t worked out all the details ourselves. We’ll need a few days to plan the wedding ceremony. Of course we’ll have soup roast and ice cream and then,” She suddenly turned to Hans, “Wait, would we live here?”
“Here?” I asked uncertainly.
Hans grabbed Anna’s small delicate hands into his rather large ones. “Absolutely!”
“Anna,” I said trying to grab her attention.
“Oh we can invite all of your twelve brothers!”
“What? No!” I said a little louder.
Anna started to ramble really fast, completely ignoring me. I could barely register what she was saying.
“Wait, slow down. No one’s brothers are staying here. No one’s getting married.”
“Wait, what?” Anna asked, hurt.
“May I talk to you please,” I looked around me quickly, “alone?” The thought of being alone with Anna made me a little nervous.
“No. Whatever you have to say you-you can say to both of us.” Anna, again, staring holding on to Hans’s arm.
Okay, I’ll have to do this the hard way, I thought. I took a deep breath. “Fine. You can’t marry a man you just met,” I said bluntly.
“You can if it’s true love,” Anna argued.
“Anna, what do you know about true love?” I sounded so cold.
“More than you! All you know is how to shut people out!”
I felt like a knife stabbed into my chest. That hurt. Behind me I heard a quiet voice whisper, “Ouch.” I felt so vulnerable. Someone was going to see it, I knew it. I tried to regain my composure. “You asked for my blessing but my answer is no. Now excuse me.” I could feel the hurt and confusion radiating off of Anna. I refused to look at her.
“Your majesty if I may-” He sounded exactly like his brother. It annoyed me.
“No you may not and I think you should go,” I said sharply. I turned to a guard that was stationed in front of me from getting hurt. “The party is over. Close the gates.”
“Yes, your majesty,” The guard said.
“What? Elsa no wait,” Anna cried grabbing my hand and taking off my glove.
I gasped. “Give me my glove!” I said trying to reach for it. Anna moved it away from me.
“Elsa, please. Please. I can’t live like this anymore.” I heard the desperation in her voice.
I knew she couldn’t. I could barely live like this. But there was no other way. “Then leave.”
For once, Anna was so shocked she was speechless. Her eyes reflected her sorrow and pain. I sighed and started to walk away. “What did I ever do to you?” Anna yelled, not caring who heard her.
“Enough, Anna,” I warned.
“No. Why? Why do you shut me out?” I shut you out because I love you. I can’t lose you too.
“Why do you shut the world out?” I shut out the world because it’s cruel. It took away our parents and Jack.
“What are you so afraid of?” I’m afraid of losing you too.
“I said ENOUGH!” I yelled, throwing my hand out causing my powers to spiral out and ice spikes to arch around me. There were a bunch of ladies gasping and people murmuring. I held my hand to my chest, watching the display of shocked faces. My secret was known.
“Sorcery,” the Duke of Weselton murmured. “I knew there was something dubious going on around here.”
“Elsa?” Anna whispered.
Fear. It surrounded me like a cage. I had to escape. Still looking at the crowd I tried to find the handle to the door. When I found it I pushed the door open and ran out of it. Leaving behind everyone. Leaving Anna behind confused and hurt.
