Chapter Thirteen

Elsa’s P.O.V

I woke up with a splitting headache. I groaned and put my pillow on my head, blocking out the blinding sunlight.

“Princess Elsa,” Pitla said, shaking me. I could feel her cold hands through the blanket. “You are wanted in the Great Hall.”

“Tell Marius I can’t go. I feel sick,” I mumbled.

“Um, Elsa, the Queen and King requested you.”

I sat up straight in bed and looked at Pitla with wide eyes. I didn’t even notice she called me Elsa and not Princess in front if it. “Wh-what do they want?”

Pitla shrugged and I sprang out of bed. “Give me the purple with the green in it. Pitla gave it to me and I went behind the curtain. I looked down at my dress and noticed it was the dress I wore to the party last night. I frowned and tried to remember what exactly happened last night but my mind was wiped blank. I hoped I didn’t offend anyone.

The queen, king, and Marius were waiting for me in the great hall. I stepped in timidly and walked up to them with my eyes down. My hands were shaking uncontrollably.

“Elsa of Arendelle,” the king said, his voice booming in the large room, “do you think we are stupid?”

“Wh-What? No! Of course not!” I said stupefied. I looked to the king than to the queen. They were glaring at me with stern expressions on their faces. My gaze went to Marius. “Marius, what’s going on? What are they talking about?”

He looked steadily into my eyes. “Show them, Elsa. Show them what you can do.”

My whole body seemed to turn into stone as I registered what he said. Show them what you can do. . . No. No. No. No. I didn’t! My heart sank and tears pricked my eyes. “My… My-”

“Powers,” Marius finished. “Show them.”

One thing you don’t do is refuse someone in front of the king and queen. Especially if it’s their son. I bit my lip and took off my gloves. I closed my eyes and flicked of my hand. I heard a gasp come from the queen then silence. I opened my eyes and saw everyone staring at me with a surprised look on their face. A hill of snow sat in front of me.

“H-how is this p-possible!” The king stuttered, jumping up. “Explain yourself!”

“I was born with powers,” I explained. “But I can control them, sir. Just watch.”

I got ready to freeze the floor but the King yelled, “GUARDS!”

I froze as three soldiers stormed into the room with their guns ready to shoot. I gasped and I stumbled backward, falling down. My eyes were trained on the guns. I’d never seen or been so close to a gun before.

“Lock her up, guards. Make sure she can’t escape.”

“Yes, sir,” One guard said. He pointed the gun at me and ordered, “Get up.” I obediently got up and they escorted me to the dungeon.

My heart was racing all the way there. I left my gloves in the great hall and I could feel the pressure of my powers building upside of me. I was sure they would explode soon. I kept my hands clenched and bit my lip with my head raised up high. Many servants watched in fascination and confusion.

I was relieved when they felt me alone in the cell. I slumped against the cool wall. Anger coursed through me as I thought back to last night. I couldn’t believe I told Marius about my powers. Conceal  don’t feel. Don’t let them know…

He deserved to know, Elsa, a tiny voice whispered. He was going to marry you for goodness’ sake!

I closed my eyes and sniffled. Through the anger, I felt relieved that I didn’t have to marry Marius. He was so stiff and proper it made me sick. Who could live like that? Maybe the king and queen would let me go home. I held on to that hope. Maybe I could see Anna again and we could become really close like we were before the accident.

Four Days Later

Unknowns P.O.V

Hidden in the shadows, I watched as Elsa sit alone, crying. I felt pity for the girl. She was a just child and she didn’t know how to use her powers correctly. If she did, she could have busted out of the cell and run. I sighed silently thinking, we have much to do.

Time was running out and everyday I was becoming impatient. I was waiting for the right time. She probably didn’t know I existed or she even believed in me. It was time to put my plan in action…

Elsa’s P.O.V

Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. I sang in my head. I was finally sixteen, an adult in the eyes of my kingdom and parents, if I got to see them ever again. I don’t know why but it felt like my powers deserted me. I couldn’t feel them coursing through me like usual. I didn’t mind though. It was nice to have a break of my powers.

Instead of getting married I was stuck inside a dungeon waiting for someone to get me out of here. Did my parents know I was in here? Were they on their way to save me? Did Jack know? No, I thought sadly, He wouldn’t know. He was probably at home playing games with Emma or something like that. I rested my head against the cool wall and fell asleep, dreaming about Jack.

“Elsa, wake up!”

I groaned and opened my eyes expecting the soldiers to be in front of me. Instead, there was a man dressed in all black staring at me. “Who are you,” I whispered, frightened. How did he get in here?

“I’m Pitch Black. I’m here to help you,” He said, in a gentle voice. “We need to act fast before the soldiers come back.” He voice was very familiar, but I couldn’t place where I’d heard it before.

“I-I can’t,” I responded. “Let them kill me. I deserve it. I’m a witch.” That word made me inwardly cringe.

Pitch growled in frustration. “I can take you to Anna, Elsa. I can take you home. You just have to trust me.”

Trust me… Isn’t what Jack asked me long time ago? Can I trust this man? I looked down at his outstretched hand. “You’ll take me to…” I was about to say Jack but he probably didn’t know who he was, “Anna?”

“Yes, Elsa,” He said. I took a deep breath and took his hand. Beneath my feet the ground turned into black sand and I felt myself sinking.

“What is this?” I shrieked.

“Calm down Elsa. You’ll get used to it,” Pitch said, chuckling.

Jack’s P.O.V

“Camilla, what a surprise. What are you doing here?” I asked, opening the door to my childhood friend. She looked extremely nervous. My usual playful behavior deflated like a balloon at the sight of her.

“Hi, Jackson. You father invited me over for supper. Is that all right?”

She looked at me with her bright green eyes. One thing about Camilla: I couldn’t say no to her and my father knew it.

“Yeah sure! Come in, and make yourself at home.”

I let her in and was greeted by my mother “Camilla, it’s been a long time,” She said, hugging her. “How’s your baby sister?”

Camilla brightened. “She’s great, Mrs. Overland. The herbs you gave me worked like magic! Sammie is already walking.”

Mother sighed with relief. “I’m glad she’s well again. I was scared she wouldn’t make it… born so early. She was like Jack. He was born three weeks early also!” Camilla giggled and I blushed.

“Supper is almost done. Jack, can you show Camilla the garden? She might want some fresh pumpkins.” Mom winked at me and went back into the kitchen. I grabbed my cloak and we went outside.

“Does your mother know it’s too cold out for plants to grow?” She asked.

“Probably. She just wants us alone together,” I said shrugging; acting like it didn’t matter. But it did matter. It matters very much.

I hadn’t seen Camilla since she dropped out of school to help her mom at home. We used to see each other all the time but now we only saw each other on special occasions. It was nice to see her again. . . under the wrong circumstances.

She looked nice. I glanced at her and saw her figure had become more defined. Her red hair now was down to her waist and her skin seemed to glow in the cold air.

She is really pretty but Elsa is prettier, I thought. Wait why was I thinking of Elsa? Stop thinking about Elsa! I scolded myself She’s getting married today!

“A penny for your thoughts,” Camilla said.

I realized we stopped walking. “Nothing,” I said. I was glad it was cold out so she couldn’t see my cheeks get red. If she did she’d think it was because of the cold.

“Come on, Jackson. I know when you’re lying. What’s up?”

Her green eyes seemed to bore into me. “You want the truth?” I asked.

“Of course, dummy,” She said laughing softly and punching me lightly in the shoulder.

“You won’t like it,” I said.

Camilla shrugged. “It doesn’t matter to me.”

“Okay… um.” How could I tell her about Elsa? “Well, I’ve been thinking alot about a girl…”

“Is she pretty?” She asked interrupting me.

“Beautiful,” I said dreamily imagining her white hair and blue eyes.

“Smart?”

“Definitely.”

“Skinny?”

“Well yeah.”

“You’re in love with her, right?”

“No- yes- I mean… I don’t know! What does love even feel like?” I asked exasperated. “Besides she’s a princess that is off getting married to some man she doesn’t know. Even if she did she love me, she can’t love a common boy! But she sees me like a brother. I can’t change that.”

“Wow. It looks like you have a problem.” Camilla said, crossing her arms. “I have one solution to one of your problems.”

“What is it?” I asked, a glimmer of hope flickered inside me.

“Close your eyes,” She demanded.

“Oh, okay?” I said, obeying.

“Clear your mind completely.”

I nodded when I did. I didn’t know what she was getting at but I just went along with it.

“When I count to three tell me what’s the first thing that pops into your mind,” She said. “One… Two… Three!”

Blue eyes. Soft white hair. Pale skin. That only belonged to one person. Elsa. Everything that made Elsa… well Elsa flooded into my mind. So many memories with her. Her laugh, her smile. How her cold skin touched my warm skin. The way I felt around Elsa. It was intoxicating.

“Elsa.” I said. “I see Elsa.”

“You love her then,” She confirmed.

I opened my eyes and laughed softly. “I love Elsa? I love Elsa!” I hugged Camilla and kissed her cheek. “Thank you.”

“It’s too bad she is getting married to another man,” Camila said with sympathy.

My excitement deflated. “Oh yeah. What am I going to do?”

Camilla shrugged. “The only thing you can do is wait.”
