Chapter 21
Annabeth
I kept biting my nails, anxious to hear what would happen. I paced back and forth in front of the apartment. Will left back to help the other wounded campers. Thalia came up behind me, trying to comfort me.
"Annabeth, Apollo is the best healer. I'm sure he will be fine. Just relax and calm down!" Thalia took me by the shoulders and looked at me straight in the eye. Electric blue to stormy grey.
"Calm. Down." Thalia said.
"I am calm! I mean how would you feel if your boyfriend is on the verge of dying!" I yelled. I didn't want to be rude, but my boyfriend was about to die. How would you react? Thalia sighed and sat back on the side walk. I continued pacing until a depressed Apollo came out.
"Annabeth..." Apollo looked at me with droopy eyes. No. No. No. No. No. No. He can't possibly be...
"Look, I tried my best and," Apollo gulped, "He's alive! It might take some time to heal but he is in a lot of pain. He won't look good any time soon but it will heal." Apollo smirked.
"Can I see him?" I asked. I wanted my Seaweed Brain. I have to see him.
"Me too?" Thalia asked.
"Sure. But he isn't really awake and might look a bit..um..you'll see for yourself." Apollo lead us back into the apartment building, then back into the living room.
There was Percy, laying on his stomach. His back had two long deep ragged cuts from the top of his back all the way down. His back was swollen and red. White cream spread across his back, with some weird tubes sticking into his cuts. I gasped at the sight, and ran to Percy's side. There was wires on the floor, connecting to Apollo's machines. I avoided them, then sat by Percy. I held his hand that was dangling from the couch. Percy's head was turned to face me so he could breathe. I pushed the black strands of hair from his face. He's alive. That's all what matters. A tear streamed down my face, as I watched Percy deep in slumber.
Thalia stood next to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. I looked up at her and she pointed behind her. Tyson was standing there, fiddling with his fingers. I stood up, and walked to Tyson. A tear fell out of his eye.
"Brother will be okay, right?..." Tyson gulped. I could tell he was as afraid just as I was in losing Percy.
"He'll be fine. He's just...resting." I chocked back a sob and hugged Tyson. He patted my back and hugged me back. He was staring directly at Percy, with deep concern in his eye.
"I have to go back with the cyclops army. Please tell me when brother wakes up Annabeth," Tyson stepped back with a small smile.
"Of course Ty." I smiled. Tyson always knew how to make me smile. He was such a gentle and kind cyclops. I felt guilty at first for hating him. He loved Percy as much as I did.
"Goodbye Annabeth," Tyson waved and with a last glance at Percy, he left the room. Thalia was kneeling in front of Percy, with a trembling hand on Percy's cheek. Percy was like a brother to her. His lop sided grin and his loyalty. His sarcasm and always being annoying. I smiled at the thought, while I sat by Thalia.
"Annabeth," Thalia looked at me.
"Yes?" I asked.
"What if Apollo was wrong?"
"We have to believe him, he's the best healer remember?" I smirked, remembering when we were in front of the apartment.
"Yeah, yeah. Okay." Thalia stood up and left the room without another word.
As my eyes watched as she left, I heard ragged breaths. I turned to Percy, who had sweat running down from his forehead. His back was turning red and even more swollen. Percy started coughing in his sleep, with blood spitting out. I screamed for Apollo as I watched Percy getting worse. I kept screaming Apollo's name. Percy's coughs began to get worse, not stopping. I got up and looked around for Apollo. I let out a huge scream to signal someone to help. Then, Apollo eventually came running in.
"Annabeth, whats wro-" When Apollo's eyes spotted Percy coughing and his back getting worse, he bit his lip.
"Out!" Apollo yelled at me. He pushed me out, then slammed the apartment door closed. I kicked at the door, yelling Percy's name.
"Let me in! Please! PERCY!!" I screamed, with tears not stopping. I kicked as hard as I could, but someone grabbed me and dragged me away back to the front of the apartment. Will calmed me down and told me everything will be okay.
"I'm going to help. Just get some rest." Will suggested. He disappeared back into the apartment room. I sat on the side walk, exhausted, but I won't fall asleep until I know Percy was okay.
"You should get some sleep." Clarisse showed up with Grover right behind her.
"I'm fine." I stared into blank space. Why couldn't it have been me? Why do the fates hate Percy so much?
"Annabeth, you need to rest. You can sleep to the apartment room next door to Percy's." Grover helped me off the ground and lead me into the apartment room across from Percy's. Clarisse pushed down the door, then walked in. Grover and I were right behind her. I didn't care what it looked like and just laid down on the couch.
"Take a nap," Grover said, "If anything happens to Percy I'll make sure to inform you. Okay?"
"Fine." I grumbled under my breath and once my head it the couch pillow, I blacked out.
