Chapter 12: Nap Time
Ash and I sat on the bed talking about my life before. He seemed fascinated at how normal my life was compared to his. I was about to start talking about my family when I remembered something. I was supposed to be home in 24 hours. According to the clock on the wall I was down to 14 hours.
Ash was in the middle of another question when I realized this. "What are your family..." I sat up straight and jumped off the bed. Ash quickly followed. "What is it?" Ash asked me. "I have to talk to Lucile. My parents are expecting me in less than a day and I can't get out of here!"
I laid back down and closed my eyes to calm down my racing heart and concentrate. Ash didn't get it at first. "How are you..." I interrupted him saying, "Shush!" Ash fell silent and I concentrated once again. "Lucy?" After a minute she answered, "Alicia? Where are you? I mean, you still have a while but our parents expect you home soon. Plus I haven't heard from you in a while."
"I know Lucy, it's just..." I paused because I didn't know what to say. I couldn't tell her I was turned into a vampire, kidnapped, trained, then kidnapped again. She would freak out. Too late. Lucy noticed my hesitation. "What is it? Are you okay? Did that vampire kidnap you?"
"I should've stayed and fought with you, I could've helped..." Lucy took a breath and I started talking before she could again. "Lucy, you couldn't have helped me. I would've focused on you instead of the fight." I tried to say it gently but I knew Lucy wouldn't get too offended.
Sure enough Lucy wasn't hurt by what I said. But it didn't take her mind away from her real question. "Where are you? Did you get kidnapped?" This time I knew I had to tell Lucy the truth. But not the full truth. "Yes, I got kidnapped. But I escaped."
What I said was mostly true. I was kidnapped by Ash, but I'm not his prisoner anymore. We are sort of friends. I wonder if Lucy would approve. It is weird that Ash and I are friends. But I wouldn't tell Lucy any of that. "It will take me a while to get home, but I'll get there. I promise."
I cringed at that because I certainly couldn't promise that considering the position I was in. "Why didn't that guy kill you?" Lucy asked me. "I have no idea." I told her, but it wasn't a complete lie. I thought Ash turned me so he could control me, but he hasn't really done that since we got kidnaped. Not like he had time to...I am super confused!
I blocked all of that from Lucy, making sure nothing too unpleasant slipped through to her. "I have to go Lucy, I'm still trying to get away." That was at least true. I had to say something else so it didn't sound like I was lying through my teeth. Technically though, it's through my mind, not my teeth.
Lucy hesitated, but let me go. "Okay, bye." Lucy said. "Bye." I couldn't believe she bought that. I opened my eyes and saw Ash staring at me. "You can still use telepathy." He said it and smiled like he already knew the answer.
"Of course I can. I doubt vampirism could change that." I replied. Then Ash asked, "Who's Lucile?" A bit of sadness leaked into my voice when I spoke. "My little sister." Ash opened his mouth to say something but he never got the chance. The door opened and five people I didn't know walked in. They were all wearing black. That's typical.
Most of the vampires I've seen here were wearing black, and these guys were definitely vampires. "Stand up and move away from each other." The guy in the front said. We just stared at him. "Move!" He said so loud that everyone in the building must have heard. I looked at Ash and he just shrugged.
We stood up at the same time. I imagined that Ash stood for the same reason that I did. Standing up is a better way to defend ourselves. The guy who kept yelling at us looked like he'd rather do anything else than yell at some prisoners. "I said move away from each other!"
His once dark blue eyes turned red. This guy has some anger issues. Ash still didn't move and neither did I. The man and all the others took a step forward. I knew this was going to become a fight. I would fight to the end. I studied all the men I was about to go up against.
I almost laughed when I saw what was on their uniforms. The guy who acted like the leader had a name tag on his shirt that said One. The guys surrounding him were Two, Three, Four, and Five. Every single one of them looked annoyed but determined. Except for Five, he just put up a facade of bravery. I could tell from his shifting eyes how nervous he really was.
They had a job to do, and they were ready to get it over with already. Ash and I were in their way. I didn't know yet what they wanted but I already didn't like it. While I was scrutinizing them, Two spoke up. "We aren't going to hurt you, we just have to separate you." I looked Two straight in the eye, tilted my head slightly and said coldly, "I doubt that."
I probably shouldn't have been antagonizing them, but I couldn't help it. I didn't believe anything these men said, mostly because I didn't even know them. The glare One was giving us convinced me he definitely wanted to hurt us. "Alright then, we just need to separate you. If you cooperate we won't have to hurt you." Two said.
One didn't even give us a chance to respond when he said, "Five, unlock the door." He nodded at the door that I found earlier when I was looking for the bathroom. Five obediently took out a key and unlocked the door. When Five opened it I saw it was just another bedroom.
Five left the door open and walked inside the room. He pulled the curtain off the window. They were going to try to force one of us in there so we couldn't have any chance of escape. I didn't understand why they would let us see each other through the window.
I was thinking all this while I should've been preparing myself for the attack I knew was coming. One leapt out and grabbed Ash's arm, attempting to pull him away from me. "Attack!" One yelled at the same time Ash yelled, "Run Alicia!" I should've ran, but I don't take orders well.
I watched as Ash struggled. Someone grabbed my arm and pulled me away too. I elbowed them in the face. I turned to kick my assailant but never had the chance. Three and Four each grabbed one of my arms and picked me up off the ground.
I kicked the air as hard as I could to make it harder to carry me, but Three and Four were strong. Two was on the ground holding his nose and One was dragging Ash closer to the bedroom door. "Ash!" I screamed.
He was fighting as hard as he could but One had him by the waist and wouldn't let go. One suddenly flipped Ash to the ground and slammed his head on the ground. It happened so fast that Ash had time to do only one thing. He looked me in the eye and touched his head before he passed out.
Ash's eyes had tried to carry a message, but what? He touched his head. What in the world did that mean? I wasn't close enough to Three or Four to head butt them. So what was it? One was picking up Ash's limp body. I bet he was taking Ash to the other bedroom.
I had to figure out Ash's message before he was gone. If only I could read Ash's mind...that's it! My telepathy could save us! Why do I always seem to forget that? Meanwhile, One threw Ash on the bed in the other room.
I didn't have much time before he locked the door. I stopped struggling so Three and Four thought I was giving up. They didn't relax their grip but I didn't need them to. As soon as Three looked into my eyes I found his thoughts.
I didn't know what to do. Even if I did, I didn't know how to do it. Plus I was losing my grip on Three's thoughts. He was thinking about how easy this was going to be since I was a girl. Okay, no more listening to his thoughts. They just made me mad.
The answer finally came to me. I could control him like I did with my classmates on the bus during my fight with Ash. Oh gosh, Ash. I needed to hurry. All that thinking only took a second, but One was about to turn around and see me get loose.
I didn't know if I was powerful enough to control a vampire, so I said only one word in his mind. "Sleep." I was only looking at Three, but every vampire in the room except me fell to the floor fast asleep. I guess I am powerful enough. Unluckily, One did not fall asleep.
