Promise ring
I couldn't stand it.
I didn't understand how people could do this.
It was complete torture.
My heart ached, every day, every hour, every minute, every freaking second I spent away from her cause me pain. It caused my head to spin, it made me crazy, I was losing my mind and I didn't care. Everyone was losing hope, with the amount of people claiming Maddie had planned to run away, the police weren't as involved as they were before.
Her parents were in the worst shape, her dad would go hours speaking to someone on the phone. When he was done, he'd leave the house with no explaination of what happened or where he was going.
A couple of our friends and I were hosting a search party, we'd been going from door to door, street to street, searching, asking, everything we can do, but we've come up with nothing. I let out a sigh, kicking a rock infront of me.
It rolled a few inches away before stopping by hitting something. Light reflected from the unknown object and I could see it shining. I walked over and crouched down, moving the rock away.
The gold in my hand was cold, my fingers treaded over the carvings on it and I felt my eyes blur with the salty liquid. On the gold, little writings in cursive wrote out 'B and M 4EVA' followed by a small heart.
This belonged to Maddie, I gave this to her. It was a way to show she was mine, to ward off all the other guys. Maddie never took it off, ever, she promised she'd never take it off. If it was here, the, things were much more worse that I thought. My queen was in danger.
Quickly, I slipped the ring onto my pinkie finger, the only finger it could fit. It was safe there, than anywhere else anyways. My feet took me back to my car, if I'm lucky, the kidnapper would have touched the ring. That is, if she was kidnapped.
Hopefully she was. I hated to admit it but I was praying Maddie had been kidnapped, if she ran away, I would kill my self. To know my Angel had ran away from me would break me. All her promises, my trust in her, it would be in vain and I would be a body with out emotion. A hollow shell.
Running my thumb over the ring, I started the car. My Maddie would soon be found, I knew of this. My phone rung, filling the empty atmosphere with my happy ring tone.
Quickly picking it up, I put my eyes back on the road, not wanting to risk anything. "Hello?" The person on the other side was panting, they sounded like they had been running. "Where are you?"
I furrowed my brows and looked around, catching sight of the street sign. "Lincoln Drive, what's going on?" The person on the other side sounded annoyed when they replied. "I just ran a few miles to your house and you're not there, my car broke down but that's not really important-"
I cut into the rambling, wanting my friend to get to the point. "We found something, something that might be able to help us." I almost slammed into a mail box, as I swiftly turned my car in the direction of my house.
"What did you find?" I sounded as eager as I felt, hope surged through me. We had finally found something, "A camera was in one of the flowers, some lady loves her petunia or something, but we got a video and we need you here."
My heart quickened with excitemet, we were a step closer. "Yeah, I'm on my way." I ended the call and threw my phone onto the passengers seat.
A million thoughts ran through my mind? What was in the video? Was Maddie okay? Would we finally find out who had her? Was this going to end soon?
Truely, I was a mess. Physically, Mentally and Spiritually. I couldn't remember the last time I had more than two hours of sleep or when last I prayed. My head had been so occupied with thoughts of Maddie, I haven't been thinking of anything else.
The sound of Bruno Mars: Lazy Song, was enough to break my chain of thoughts. My eyes flew to my phone and back to the road. Catching the sight of a too near child, I swerved away, narrowly avoiding the boy.
With widened eyes, a quick beating heart and not so steady breath, I picked up the phone. "Hello!" I annoyingly answered, wondering who the hell was calling.
"Bryce?" I knew that voice, that aoft voice that I had grown to love. The voice which belonged to my queen. "Who is this?" My voice came out as a whisper, Shock was the perfect word to explain what I was feeling.
"It's me, Maddie."
