Chapter Three: A Day of Being a Hooman

Jungkook stared at Taehyung's laying figure. The boy is sleeping after stressful and harsh asthma.

A portal came out of nowhere which made Jungkook avert his attention from the boy.

"Jungkook, why haven't you-- Jungkook!" His friend, Minjun exclaimed while pointing at the raven-haired male.

Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows and looked at himself. Shit. He didn't even realize his fifteen minutes ended and that he's now a human along with Minjun who's assigned to assist Taehyung after Jungkook takes his soul.

"What if someone will see us, Jungkook? What happened? Come on, touch him so we can go." Minjun said and nudged the shocked boy.

"Who are you, guys? Why are you here?" Taehyung asked with a frightened look.

Jungkook and Minjun snapped their heads towards the blond.

"Wh-why are you dressed like...that?" Taehyung pointed at their all-black clothing that is common for the grims.

Both Jungkook and Minjun are unable to respond, not knowing what to say.

We're screwed.

The door opened silently, revealing a confused Gaeun. "Uhm... Hi, young lads." She greeted, unsure.

At least she thinks 3,992 years old is young. Jungkook thought and bit his lips.

"U-uh... Hi, ma'am. We're... The doctor that is assigned to your son is our... father. Yes, father." Minjun lied and chuckled nervously, nudging Jungkook, telling him to bow as a sign of respect which they immediately did.

"Oh... Doctor Jung?" She asked and put down the food that she bought for Taehyung.

The grims nodded their head instantly.

"You don't look like Doctor Jung but I guess uhm... Nevermind. Do you want to eat? I brought food with me." Gaeun asked with a soft smile.

Jungkook nodded his head vigorously while Minjun frowned at him, "I want to eat. It looks delicious. It will be the first time I'll eat human food, Jungkook." Minjun whispered the last part.

"Oh, Taehyungie, you're awake!" Gaeun handed the foods to Jungkook and Minjun before making her way to her child.

Taehyung smiled at her and glanced at the two grims who are having a hard time opening an orange.

"What the heck is this thing? How do they eat it?" Minjun groaned and slapped the orange.

"We should get going now, Minjun. Doctor Chung might come in any minute and she'll know that we're not his children." Jungkook whispered.

"It's Jung... And yeah, you're right but we're keeping these." Minjun pointed at the orange, apple, and banana milk inside the plastic bag.

"No, what if she gets mad?" Jungkook asked, pulling the plastic bag that Minjun refuses to let go.

"Ma'am, do we get to keep these?" Minjun asked loudly while Jungkook facepalmed.

"Yes, sure and bring the red velvet cake, too," Gaeun said with a kind smile.

Minjun smiled, "Thank you so much!" He exclaimed and bowed.

"What's a red velvet cake?" Jungkook asked, only Minjun can hear.

The black-haired male bit his lips, "I don't know either... Let's just find something red." He said and grabbed a cake which is, fortunately, the red velvet that Gaeun mentioned.

"Thank you so much once again! But uhm... May we ask something? Where's the nearest apartment here?" Minjun asked.

"Oh, 'Euphoria' is the most famous apartment here. It's next to Serendipity's Cafe." She said.

They thanked the woman once again.

"No probl-- May I ask your names? I forgot to ask you earlier. My name is Kim Gaeun and this is my son, Taehyung." She introduced with a warm smile.

"Oh! I'm Jung Minjun."

"I'm Jeon - I mean Jung Jungkook."

They introduced before bidding her goodbye.

Before Jungkook can completely leave, he had eye contact with Taehyung.

Jungkook gulped nervously and walked out in a hurry.

Jungkook and Minjun sat on the sofa in their apartment room.

"Where do we find money to pay this apartment? And why didn't you take his soul immediately? What happened? You know that I won't be able to go back to being a grim if you don't take his soul, right? I'm assigned to assist his soul in the waiting area." Minjun bombarded the other grim with questions.

Jungkook groaned and buried his face inside his palms, "Shush it, Minjun. I can't answer any of your questions yet." He said, his voice muffled.

Minjun rolled his eyes and abruptly stood up to examine the room.

"Just don't mess up, Jungkook. If you get punished, I get punished, too." Minjun said, not giving the male a single glance.

There are two kinds of Grim Reapers:

Soul-Taking Grims: Grim Reapers that take someone's soul that is written in their book. A single touch of a Grim Reaper can bring death upon whoever is next to their list.

Soul-Assisting Grims: Grim Reapers that assist the souls in the waiting area. The waiting area is consist of the things that the souls own image of paradise. It could be their favorite place or a place that is only real inside their minds. Soul- Assisting Grim Reapers is assigned to different Soul-Taking Grim Reapers depending on the souls that they're going to take.

Example:

A soul like Taehyung is innocent and caring, therefore, the grim that is going to assist him will not be scary and blunt to make him feel safe and less scared of death.

Jungkook sighed, "It's only for a day, Minjun. Don't worry." He said.

The aforementioned male just nodded silently before making his way to the table where the red velvet cake is placed.

They heard a knock on the door.

Minjun decided to open it. His eyes widen in shock and slight horror.

Oh no...
