Elliot had to go back at some point, as much as he wanted it to his life could not revolve around her. He had alpha duties, being alpha of the largest pack in America had its perks but paperwork was not one of them.

Elliot kissed her pale lifeless cheek one last time before taking his bags and heading towards the exit of the pack house.

There had been rogue problems at the border for some time now. Yesterday they had left a little girl by the border, her head detached from her body. That had been the final straw for Elliot, as much as leaving his mate hurt him he could not leave his pack vulnerable.

He heads for his matte black Jeep, Jayden already in the passenger seat. Sighing he looks at the pack house one more time before leaving.

"It'll be okay, she's strong. Luna will wake up I know she will." Jayden says giving me a pat on the back.

A lone tear falls into the black leather seats, Elliot had not shed a single tear in 12 years.

Not since his parents left this world, at 12 he experienced something no kid his age should.

Shaking his head he thinks about the life him and his mate will have when she's ok, not wanting to think about his parents right now.

Gripping on to the wheel tighter he continues the 6 hour drive to his pack.

1 year later
He visits his mate as much as he can. It is her 18th birthday and he is on his way to see her.

Elliot couldn't contain his excitement even though she couldn't talk to him, his stress always seemed to lessen when he was near her.

He felt like he could be himself, he didn't have to live up to his alpha title, he didn't have to be Alpha Elliot. He could be Elliot, the sweet and caring guy who wanted to shower his mate with kisses till he couldn't anymore.

Nobody had known that he had found his mate, it was better that way. She is vulnerable laying in that hospital bed. He couldn't protect her all the time, that made him scared as much as he didn't want to admit it.

He was coming alone this time, her birthday wanted. No needed. To be special, it was the least he could do, he wanted her to experience the world while she was asleep.

The doctor said she could hear everything going on around her so she may not be able to see but she will be able to hear. That gives him some hope.

Seeing the big brick pack house brought smile to his face. No matter what happened the day before mattered anymore, as weird as it was he felt at home. Home was where Madeline was, and if there temporary home was in another pack so be it.

Walking in he could already smell her, almost in a trance he followed the mouthwatering scent to the bookshelf. Pulling open the book he broke into a sprint to her bed.

Sitting down in the surprisingly comfy white recliner he leaned back and gripped onto her hand softly

"Madeline please me and Alex miss you so much and we haven't even heard your voice, we haven't seen your gorgeous eyes or watched as you lips rose into the beautiful smile I already know you have."

"I'm falling in love with you and you don't even know it." Elliot said tears dropping onto his old sneakers he only wears here. For her.

He leans his head on her pillow, slowly falling asleep.

Elliot woke up to shuffling in the room. He sits up faster than you could say damn.

In her room were her parents and brothers relaxing a little he leaned back down in the chair.

"You look like crap" James says. Elle smacks his shoulder, and tells him to shout his snout.

Elliot looks over at him.

"Gee thanks" he says sarcastically.

"Sorry son, those teenagers don't know when to shut up." Josh tells him.

They had gotten very close this past year, he thought of them as family just as much as they thought of him as family.

"I can't believe our little Maddie and Roman become adults today." Elle says standing on her toes to reach Roman pinching his cheek.

"Moooom stop it, that's embarrassing." Roman whines.

"Young man I gave birth to you and your sister 18 years ago, if your gonna whine to me about pinching your damn cheek I'll show you some real pain." Elle tells him daring him to say something back so she can most likely chase him around the house with a wooden spoon... again.

A grown alpha being chased by his mother with a wooden spoon, that's a sight to see.

Sitting on the recliner he watched as the family bickers back and fourth. Elliot enjoys these days when he come down here he feels apart of something. He lost his parents at a young age and hasn't got to experience something like this in a long time.

It felt good.

Beep! beep! beep! beep! beep! Everyone's heads fly to Madeline's. Her heart rate started increasing.

Josh ran out of the room to get doctor what's his face. And Elliot ran to Madeline along with Elle, Roman, and James.

"Madeline can you hear me" Elliot yells shaking her shoulders lightly.

"Madeline baby what's wrong, everything's okay." Elle was crying.

Roman and James held onto their mother hoping everything was alright.

The doctor rushed in pushing Elliot out of the way to get to Madeline, making him growl under his breath.

Knowing now wasn't the time to tell him who was superior, he rushed back to Madison's side

All of the sudden the beeping stopped, as did Elliot's heart.

"WHAT'S WRONG, WHATS HAPPENING" Josh yelled at the doctor.

"Fix her damn it, help my mate please." I said at the same time.

Elliot could feel Alex wanting to be released, to kill the doctor if anything happened to her. He knew though that lashing out would do nothing for Madeline.

The doctor turned to him.

"Bite her" "Mark her as yours"

What he told Elliot only meant one thing. She was dying. His bite would either kill her immediately or save her. He was willing to risk everything for her.

"You have my heart in the palms of your hand Madeline." "Take it and don't let go." Elliot said.

Then he bit her neck.
