Chapter - 37

"Ah, but is there more?" Yoongi nodded his head. Jin rolled his eyes.

"I promise you, it is more enjoyable than the shadow theme. And it has to do with my medical guidelines, for what it's worth."

"You're already taking the time off." The older one was quick is to say, which made the other two laugh.

The first thing Yoongi did was tell them about the example the doctor had given him to explain what had happened to him. No one had ever called it a vase before, either directly or indirectly, but given the circumstances, and that the example had made him understand the situation, he would let it pass.

"A pressure cooker would have also served as an example," Jin commented thoughtfully.

"As always, you take everything to the kitchen grounds." He said resignedly.

"When you get mad, it's like smoke is coming out of your ears. It's your way of relieving pressure and not sending us to shit." Namjoon added.

"Are you calling me a pressure cooker? Really, Namjoon?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"What?! That's way better than calling you a vase." The youngest defended himself.

Yoongi covered his face with his hands and gave a frustrated grunt. "Why am I telling you these things?" He had said it rhetorically and more to himself than to them, but Jin was quick to reply.

"Because we're your best friends and we care about you. And because you love us. And you're probably gonna deny that, but we know the truth."

"I think I should change my friends."

"Hears!" Jin exclaimed indignantly, although he knew very well that he had been joking. "He didn't even acknowledge the last part of my sentence" Jin whispered, turning to Namjoon.

"So," Namjoon spoke again after a snicker, "basically, Jungkook has already saved you more times than can be counted on one hand. First in your dreams, pushing away the shadows for an entire week, and then when it connected with your gem and pushed them away for good."

"When Jimin said he was good at a lot of things, I didn't think this would also fit the package."

"Wait till I tell you the rest, Hyung, it's going to blow your lid."

So Yoongi told them about that test that the doctor had done on his gem and about the results and conclusions he had reached. While doing so, Jin had taken the plates that previously contained cake and returned to his place on the couch next to Namjoon. By the time Yoongi finished speaking, the two of them had barely blinked and were motionless as a statue.

"Can gems do that?" Jin asked, dumbfounded. "I had no idea they could do that." Namjoon had said at the same time. They turned to each other.

"Neither do I. But I see it as a possibility, although I don't think it is something so common. The doctor himself was quite surprised at the discovery. If it weren't because he did the test himself, I'm sure he wouldn't have thought it possible either."

After a few moments of silence, Jin spoke again. "Does this mean that Jungkook is capable of doing these things? Why didn't he say anything?"

"Maybe he doesn't know," Namjoon replied instead.

"Oh, come on, Joonie, darling. How can you not know what your gem does? It is a part of you, it is impossible not to notice it."

"Hyung, you know that there are things we do unconsciously, without realizing it until someone tells us. I'm not saying that Jungkook did not feel it, but it is possible that he didn't know exactly what it was. Also, when the connection is recent, there are a lot of residual sensations." Namjoon explained. "Do you remember the time I was so nervous about presenting a project that my nerves ended up reaching you through our connection?" Jin nodded after finding the memory in his mind. "Until I told you about it, you didn't know why you had that feeling. And maybe the same thing happened to Jungkook."

Jin gently nodded several times, taking in all the information. It was quite a lot to take in, so he had to take it easy.

"The doctor thinks the same." Yoongi intervened again. "He couldn't be sure if Jungkook was aware of what his gem was doing. In fact, he said that even if he was aware of it, he didn't know if he would be able to control it. Besides, if I had felt something strange like that, I wouldn't have said it."

"Well, to tell the truth, there was a time when it felt strange."

"Oh yeah? When was that, that I didn't find out?" Jin asked, interested.

"You didn't realize why you were driving, but Jungkook started to feel bad. Well, I don't know if that's the best expression, but it's the closest. Apparently, his gem was unstable." Namjoon counted.

"Unstable?" Jin was frowning, and Yoongi was interested in Namjoon's response. "Joonie, I'm sorry, but no one said anything about Jungkook being unwell."

Namjoon stared at him blankly, until finally, a light came on in his head. "Ah, sorry, I didn't explain myself well. I was referring to when we were going to look for Yoongi Hyung at his house. Jimin asked him if he was okay, and Jungkook replied he thought his gem was unstable. Although, if I'm honest, he didn't seem to have a clue why. I thought it was because of the stress of the situation, but seeing that his gem and Yoongi Hyung's connected, it might be because of what was happening with the shadows."

"Oh sir, we have more and more details. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing. The only thing I do know right now is that it's giving me a headache with a side of unanswered questions." Jin said with two fingers on the bridge of his nose, as if that way he could stop the headache that was to come.

"Welcome to the club, Hyung," Yoongi said with a growl.

"Well, at least we know Jungkook didn't understand what was going on either." The other rapper commented after a while.

"Yeah, well, I didn't understand it before I got home. After what happened, I assume you tied up the loose ends."

"Yoongi is right. But that also doesn't answer the question of whether or not the controlled his gem. If you want my opinion, I think that is something that someone could do after many years, with more experience in this of gems. But Jungkook? He is still a child." Jin had resumed his previous position against the back of the sofa, and now his hands were clasped in his lap, the epitome of calm.

"Come on, Hyung, don't say that. He may be younger than us, but that doesn't make him a boy. It is far from it." Namjoon claimed in defence of the boy.

"Joonie, he's 23 and I'm going 28. For me, it's like a baby." Jin quickly replied.

"You say it like you're turning 50."

"Look, even if it was only two years apart, it would still be a baby." Beside him, Namjoon shook his head from side to side in resignation. "It's not because of age, but because of the aura, it gives off. It makes him look so much younger and more vulnerable. And what do you do when someone is vulnerable? Protect it." Jin sentenced.

Namjoon raised his hands in a gesture of surrender. He agreed with Jin that the boy's shyness made your heart melt and you wanted to protect and care for him. But that didn't mean he was a boy.

"How old do you say he is?" Yoongi asked.

So deep were they in their conversation, they had completely forgotten that Yoongi was still with them. Namjoon was still holding his hands up.

"You mean Jungkook? 23." The older answered without understanding.

Yoongi sank further, if possible, into the couch, and let out a sigh as he looked at the ceiling. "Is too young."

"Ha! Do you see it, Joonie? Yoongi agrees with me." Jin said with a triumphant smile.

Namjoon just frowned. "You're not thinking what I think you're thinking, are you, Yoongi Hyung?"

Jin looked from one to the other, trying to understand what he had missed. Yoongi closed his eyes and sighed. It seemed like that's the only thing he knew how to do lately.

the other rapper quickly interrupted, "Joon-ah ..." he started, but.

"No, Hyung. You cannot reject the boy based only on his age. Meet him first." Namjoon scolded. "And that being too young is a shitty excuse. Some people are 40 years old and act like a person of 16 and vice versa."

Yoongi was not the least bit affected by the tone his friend had used. He also had the same opinion, but this situation was different, his situation was different. And any excuse, stupid as it was, made sense in his frightened mind. "I will not turn him down because he's younger than me." He finally said, opening his eyes and looking toward his friend.

"But you're going to reject it, right?"

"That is my idea." He replied in time. Lying would fix nothing, and even if he lied, they would know he was doing it, so it was a waste of time.

The silence in the place was getting bigger and bigger, and the more time passed, the tenser it seemed to get. Still, Yoongi said nothing, and neither did Namjoon. Each hoped the other would give up in that silent battle. And in the middle was Jin, who was still processing everything that had happened to them from the night before until today, and what Yoongi had revealed to them.

In part, he understood the reasons Yoongi wanted to reject the boy. He disagreed but admitted that, if he were in the same situation, and having been through the same thing, he would probably act in the same way to protect himself. What Yoongi was doing was more offensive than defensive; he wanted to strike the first blow and suffer the fury of his friends rather than expose himself and be defeated.

But he also wanted the same as Namjoon. He wanted Yoongi to understand that by rejecting Jungkook; he was doing the same thing that Jun had done to him, only the other way around. They had never said this thought out loud. It would have been counterproductive, and Yoongi would shut down altogether.

"Hey Yoon, why don't you put that idea aside? At least for a time." The two rappers looked at him as if they had just realized his presence in the room. "The doctor recommended that you stay for at least a week with no stress or worries. And this is clearly a substantial source of concern. Why don't you take that time to stop thinking about it? Your perspective may change. I can tell the others what the doctor has told you, so they sure are not averse to putting the subject aside for a while. And I'm sure Jungkook won't have a problem with it either."

Yoongi was, to say the least, surprised. He knew Jin agreed with Namjoon and that he would probably urge him to give up on his idea of rejecting the boy. That's why it was strange to him that the older one missed this opportunity. For an instant, Yoongi thought maybe it was a strategy to make him lower his guard, to convince him to accept the boy. But he dismissed that thought just as quickly as it had come. They were only worried about everything that had happened, and Jin, as the greatest of them all, but his health and well-being before the subject of soulmates.

He was not entirely sure that others could be so easily convinced, but Jin had a magic touch with which he achieved what he set out to do. So Yoongi, still shocked, but also grateful for the lack of insistence, nodded and allowed himself to relax his posture. Namjoon also seemed to relax, although there was a trace of guilt in his eyes for having pressed the issue. Then he looked at Jin, and without words, just with his eyes, he thanked him for what he had just done.

"Well, since we decide everything, it's time to go shopping," Jin said as he got up from the couch and wrote something on his cell phone at the speed of light, thus drastically changing the subject. He was probably texting the others to tell them the news.

"You don't have to go buy anything, I can put up with what's left of the disaster," Yoongi said from his position on the couch.

Jin stopped typing for two seconds. Two seconds in which he looked at Yoongi with a look that meant, "Are you going to contradict me?", And "Are you trying to make me overlook that you only have two complete outfits and that one of them is a pyjama?". Yoongi knew Jin long enough to know when he could contradict him and when he couldn't. Besides, he really needed to buy clothes, but he didn't feel like leaving the house, especially now that they had finished eating.

"I'm going to change." He said as he got up to go to his room. A wise decision, as Jin smirked, turning his attention to the mobile.

They literally spent the rest of the afternoon going from store to store. Jin did not seem content with just one store, he said each one offered something different. To Yoongi, after going through three, they all looked the same. When he mentioned this to Jin, he dismissed the comment with a wave of his hand, claiming that the store they had come from did not have the exact shade of the colour he was looking for. Jin was a man with a goal, and that goal was to fill Yoongi's wardrobe with clothes for every occasion and in every colour.

At a certain point, when Jin separated from them to ask for a saleswoman or something, Yoongi sought Namjoon's support. The boy, with a smile that showed his dimples, openly advised him to let go, that fighting Jin in terms of fashion was like swimming against the current. Yoongi was not satisfied with his friend's response, but he had no choice but to resign himself to following his advice.

After what seemed like an eternity, they finally finished shopping. Yoongi was exhausted, and that he had only remained inside the changing room, putting on everything that Jin brought him and staying at the end with four pieces of the thirty he brought him. Being in there had been torture, so he decided it was best to finish shopping as soon as possible. He had to admit, reluctantly and to himself, that Namjoon was right, and that the best strategy was to let go. Yoongi would go around the entire store with Jin, showing what he liked, and occasionally accepting some other suggestion, while Namjoon carried the bags. He really looked like a walking coat rack.

Following this tactic, it didn't take much longer to finish buying everything they needed. The next, and last stop, was to go home and relax. Jin seemed to want to stay in the mall they had gone shopping at, but one look at all the bags that were hiding his boyfriend and Yoongi's tired face stopped him from doing such a thing.

Of course, Jin had paid for it all with money from his pocket. He had refused to let Yoongi pay for his own clothes, telling him to save it for when he had to buy new furniture for the house. At first, it upset Yoongi. After all, the money had been earned by working and he could spend it on whatever he wanted. But after seeing what he had bought, all those complaints faded. Yoongi may not have followed the latest trends in fashion, he had never been very interested in that topic, but he knew that many of the things that Jin had bought were branded, and therefore, they cost one kidney and part of the other. And he hated to admit it, but he was right; he was going to need that money to renovate his apartment and make it habitable again.

That same afternoon, after laying out all the clothes and organizing some things that Namjoon had brought from his apartment, Yoongi flopped down on the bed, looking up at the ceiling and reviewing what happened during the day. It felt like several days had passed when in fact it had only been half a day since he had woken up in a hospital bed.

Unconsciously, he had picked up the gem and moved it between his fingers, going over its irregular shape as if he wanted to etch it in his mind. He thought of all the power that something so small contained; a power capable of saving not only your life but also that of another person. And then he thought of Jungkook, the boy who was now his soul mate and whom he barely knew. He remembered very little of what had happened when their gems connected, but the boy's brown eyes, wide with surprise, seemed to haunt him when his mind returned to that memory. Yoongi swore he saw them sparkle, almost as if they had stardust inside them, but it was probably an effect of the light their gems had emitted when they connected.

Yoongi stopped his thoughts right there. He didn't want to think about the boy he was going to reject and what he had done for him, intentional or not. He had already discussed it with Jin and Namjoon, and they had not come to a logical conclusion, so it was not worth racking their heads over something they barely had information about. But what you want is one thing, and what your mind wants is quite another. Like when you want to sleep and your mind insists on repeating what has happened during the day, Yoongi's mind kept returning to the same memory repeatedly, as if it wanted to send him some kind of message.

He ended up giving in to exhaustion and fell asleep, one hand clutching his gem just as a little boy would with his favourite stuffed animal. In the end, his mind was victorious. When he woke up hours later, he remembered dreaming of galaxies and stardust, and of brown eyes that seemed to see through his soul. Far from feeling disturbed, Yoongi felt protected and safe.
