Chapter - 35
He would have time to tell him once they got home.
Already dressed in his clothes, he left the room to go to the cafeteria. He needed the coffee more than breathing, and he needed it now. After a few elevators with patients from the operating room, many with patients from the consulting rooms, and several corridors filled with patients and medical personnel, Yoongi finally reached the cafeteria.
With all the people he had encountered along the way, he expected the cafeteria to be in a similar state, crowded and with overwhelmed servers. But, to his surprise, it was almost empty, except for a few tables that were occupied by one or two people. Wasting no more time, he approached the bar to order an iced coffee, so it would last longer. After paying for it, he went to one table that was near the windows that looked out onto a small interior garden.
With the first sip, he felt as if someone had opened the doors to paradise for him. He wasn't sure if the coffee was that good or if his palate was just craving the drink and was cheating him, but it tasted like glory. Since he had plenty of time until they came to pick him up, he looked at the notifications on his mobile.
He had a message from his mother, telling him how much they missed him and how they would like him to spend the Christmas holidays with them, if only for a couple of days. In addition, she had also sent him a video with the title "She misses you too", in which his puppy Holly appeared, running towards the camera with her tongue out and wagging her tail frantically. It was so cute that he could not suppress the smile that crossed his face.
He missed them too. At first, when his mother had told him to spend Christmas with them, she had been reticent. The first Christmas after his break-up with Jun, it was as if he hadn't been; He had tried, but his mind always seemed to go elsewhere and he felt listless. He was happy to be with his family, but that joy did not last long, as his mind returned and again to those sad moments. The second Christmas had been better; He had made a lot of progress in his therapy with the psychologist and was almost in the last stretch of treatment. His parents were still a little worried, of course, but they were a little more relaxed when they saw his behaviour was different; he was more like the son they knew.
However, this Christmas was getting closer and closer, and Yoongi still hadn't told his mother if he was going to go or not. He really wanted to go, of course, but given the current circumstances, he wasn't sure it was a good idea. For starters, his mother was the person who always asked you about your love life. She wasn't doing it to intrude on his life, far from it, but after what had happened, she wanted to see him happy. According to his words, Yoongi had a family and friends who loved him and a stable job, the only thing he lacked was a person to complete him in love. If to that he added the fact that a few hours ago he had found his soul mate, the result was clear: his mother would want them both at home and Yoongi did not see himself prepared for that scenario much less if he was going to reject the boy; he had to see what happened from now on before telling him anything.
Not wanting to keep thinking about it, Yoongi looked at the rest of the notifications. And they were all from his friends. In the group chat were the photos that had been taken during the party last night and that they had shared at the time of taking it for fear that some mobile would be unusable after getting wet with you who knows what - it had already happened to them once. Then came the rest of the messages, dated today, in which his friends were happy that everything had been in a scare after 'the robbery' and that he could return home. No one said anything about what happened to him and Jungkook. Yoongi did not know whether to feel completely relieved, because he was sure that if they said nothing through the chat, it was because they would do it in person.
Yoongi sighed wearily just thinking about it. The least he needed was to think about it. He didn't want to do it. He wanted to pretend nothing had happened, but that he was having coffee in a hospital cafeteria, and that he still had the bracelet tied to his wrist, made it quite impossible.
After sending a few messages to reply to his mother and friends, he finished drinking what was left of his coffee and went to his room, where he waited for Jin and Namjoon to arrive. When they arrived, he barely had time to get up from the chair before Jin wrapped him in a tight hug. He didn't even have time to reciprocate, as Jin quickly broke away to examine him up and down, just like a mother would. Once satisfied with what he had seen, he sighed in relief. Namjoon took advantage of the give him another hug, accompanied by a gentle pat on the back.
"I'm so glad you're okay," Jin said.
"Me too, Hyung. It was crazy, but now that the shadows are not coming back, everything is a nightmare. "
"They are not coming back?! I don't believe it for an instant. That's what we thought, what you assured us, and look what happened." The older man blurted and with his eyes full of concern.
"Hyung, it wasn't his fault. It's not something I could control." Namjoon said with a hand on Jin's shoulder, trying to calm him down.
Jin put a hand to his face and took a deep breath. "Sorry, I overdid it, but ..."
"No, it's okay, Hyung. You're right." Yoongi assured him as he resumed his seat in the chair. In front of him, the couple looked at him somewhat confused. "It's the truth, I should have listened to you and stayed. But I didn't want you to stop enjoying the party, and I hoped that just for one day they wouldn't show up again."
"Yoongi," Jin called out to him as he squatted down. "When are you going to understand that you are not a nuisance to us? Even if you look like a curmudgeon on the outside, you actually care about others, in your own way, but we can tell. We all need a shoulder to lean on from time to time. That's what friends are for, not just for parties and a couple of outings a year."
Yoongi bit his lip and nodded. One thing that Jin had was that he could call you to out without needing to scream. Sometimes it called their attention to the full, but usually, it was to tell them how disrespectful they were towards their elders, or because they did not wrap themselves up enough when they went out, or for little things that were not really that important and that they were they said as a joke. But when something really worried him, you could see it as it was now with Yoongi.
The least Yoongi had wanted was to be a burden and a concern to them, but in the end, he had backfired. It was something he had to work on, that obsession with wanting to carry everything just to ease the burden on others. But it was difficult to change customs and habits, especially if they were done as instinctively as breathing.
"What do you mean they're not coming back, Hyung?" Namjoon asked this time, effectively changing the conversation.
"Ah, that. Well, last night I was not only visited by the shadows. She was also one of them, but she helped me." Yoongi explained cryptically.
"She who? It's one of them, but did it help you?" Namjoon asked, confused. Beside him, Jin was frowning, clearly in the same situation as his partner.
"I'll tell you about it when we get home. It is quite long to explain. And also quite confusing."
The boys only had time to nod before there were several knocks on the door. Dr Park made an appearance with his nurse. After greeting Jin and Namjoon, the nurse proceeded to remove the bracelet while the doctor explained the guidelines he had set for Yoongi during the week. The doctor handed him the discharge paper and assured his friends that his condition was good, but that he needed to take it easy. Jin nodded vehemently at the mere mention of 'guidelines' and 'take it easy'.
They set off after the doctor and nurse left. The boys had come in Jin's car, so the drive home didn't take long. They mostly talked about what they had done at the party before he called them and how they liked Jungkook. It is seen that, as Jimin had said, he was a boy shy at first, but who already showed signs of having a personality similar to Jimin and Taehyung, which could only mean that he liked to mess with his Hyungs every time I could. They had spent little time with him, so they hadn't been able to get to know him more deeply, but the first impression he had made was a good one. Jin was one of those who was rarely wrong when judging a person's character, so if he said Jungkook was a good boy,
Besides, he discovered they had gone to the police station to file a complaint. Apparently, the police had been behind a couple of weeks to catch these criminals who were dedicated to robbing houses and leaving them practically uninhabitable. Yoongi suspected those criminals were shadows, but did not comment on them. Jin had also been in charge of speaking with his landlord, so he was aware of the situation and would not deduct money from the bail for the damage, since it had not been his fault. Namjoon assured the man that they would fix everything as soon as possible.
For its part, the landlord in question did not seem to care in the least whether the apartment was left as new. According to the man, the apartment had seen better days, and Yoongi was the tenant who had taken better care of the apartment and caused the fewest problems. Ultimately, he was more concerned about Yoongi's well-being than anything else. The boys weren't sure if it was genuine concern or if it was because they feared their most precious tenant would leave, but they were relieved they didn't have it against them.
When they got home, and as soon as they entered, Jin went straight to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
