Chapter 18【Beckii】
Beckii's POV.
I called up Kaeyi to speak to her.
"Hey, I'll be over in 10." I said into the phone that was held against my ear.
"M'kay." Kaeyi replied, sounding a bit muffled, like she was eating something. I hung up, then got my purse. After informing Tom that I was going out, I left.
I rang the doorbell.
"Hey!" Martyn's cheery voice said, welcoming me in. Kaeyi was sat on the sofa, playing with Kiki and Pascal.
"Becks!" Kaeyi exclaimed happily when she saw me, getting up and walking in my direction.
"Hey Kaeyi. I need to talk to you." I said, deadpan. Her face turned a little more serious.
"M'kay." She replied softly, leading me up the stairs to her room. She shut the door and locked it quietly, then came back and sat on the bed.
"What's wrong?" She asked, concerned. I felt a little bad for her, since she thought something was wrong.
"Nothing," I assured her. "Just that, I have an idea." She raised a brow.
"Go ahead."
"Well," I started softly, not wanting Martyn to hear and then tell Tom. "I've been thinking about marriage..." Kaeyi's eyes lit up when I said this, and she grinned wildly.
"Go on."
"And I have the perfect plan on how to pop the question." She grinned some more, and the look in her eyes said, "Spill the beans."
"This has to happen on a special occasion, like let's say someone's birthday, right. So, I hang out with another guy, and I already know who it's going to be, then Tom will become jealous, and then I give him a peace offering, which is..." I let ny sentence trail off suggestively.
"The ring!" Kaeyi squeaked, a little too excitedly. Luckily, the walls of their new house were quite soundproof. I grinned at her and nodded.
"Exactly. All we need is a special occasion and boom: We've got ourselves a proposal." I stated. "But I've got to tell Leo; he'll help set up the arrangements and stuff."
"Alright." She acknowledged, nodding in a serious manner. "Can I tell Stinky? I mean Martyn." She hurriedly corrected herself. I smiled at her.
"No, not yet."
"Oh!" Kaeyi suddenly exclaimed, as some sort of realisation dawned on her. "Did you get the ring yet?" I realised that we were getting a little bit too loud, so I shushed her.
"Shh, and no, not yet. I will tomorrow, though." I told her softly. "You want to come?" She grinned.
"Yeah." She accepted the offer. "I know a really good jewelry shop that's nit far from here; we can go there for the ring. I've seen some really pretty ones there." She informed me.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door that made us jump.
"Stink! Beckii! Are you in there? Sparkles* has come!" He said loudly from outside. We both looked at each other simultaneously.
"Um," I shouted back. "We're- tell him to give us a minute!"
"Ok!"
"Don't say a word about this." I warned her, before we left the room and made our way down to the living room. Tom was sat on the sofa, watching some tv programme that blared in the background.
"Hey Tom." I greeted happily, trying to surpress my smile for what he was in for. He hadn't a clue.
"Oh hey!" He turned to face us as both of us as we both sat on the sofa beside him.
"Look at this," he said, pointing to the tv, "It's a rather interesting report about some girl pushing another girl down a flight of stairs." Martyn joined us on the sofa, and so did Kiki and Pascal.
"Recent days has brought down an unfortunate event. Seventeen-year-old Rowsn Taylor was pushed the steps of the Bristol underpass. Her mother, Sophie Anges Taylor, is talking to us now." The screen changed from a girl lying unconscious at the foot of steps to a lady with her face blurred.
"I-I'm very worried for ny daughter, she is such a good girl, you know, she never fought with me. I-I really hope that she'll make it out alive." The mother cried through a series of tears. The scene then changed again.
"People say that an eleven-year-old girl who goes by the name of Megan Lohanna, was the cause of this fall." The lady in the tv studio said. "The police have yet to declare her as guilty, and are now in court with her parents."
"My daughter regrets her actions deeply, and-" the lady speaking got cut off abrubtly by a loud banging-like sound.
"I want to hear from Megan!" The jury yelled from his high seat. The lady, whom I presume to be Megan's mother, stands a girl up, and sits.
"I-I didn't mean to..." The girl, Megan started softly, only the mic increasing her volume. "S-she was in my way and... We were rushing for the bus..."
"What bus? You don't go to an underpass for buses, girl! I want strict security with this girl! The officers shall question you personally." The jury's voice sneered menacingly. The scene changed again to a busy roadside and a face that wasn't blurred.
"Rowan's brother, Leo Miller(this is his made up middle name, not real one)Taylor, also witnessed this horrible incident. What do you have to say, Leo?"
"My sister is a great girl. The one that pushed her down is a bi-BEEP." Distracted from the show, I said, "That isn't Leo!"
"Yeah! The news have gotten it wrong!" Kaeyi proclaimed. "But how are we going to protest? We haven't got any proof."
"Speak again." I looked at Tom, only to see that all this while he was filming the whole thing. "Aaand done." He announced, then stopped rolling.
"That's proof." He said smugly, switching off his phone and stuffing it back in his pocket. "And I'm using it for that." He gestured to the tv. "Because that was definitely not Leo."
After a little while more of chatting, Tom and I left their house.
"Leo's got someone you should meet." Tom said softly, kissing my forehead affectionately. "I think you'd like her."
