Chapter 16【Smith】

Smith's POV.
Rowan takes a deep breath, inhaling loudly. Her chest then deflates, and she sighs.
- I'll tell you the stuff that happened
Leo raises his eyebrows.
"Starting from...?" He trails his scentence off suggestively.
- When I ran away
"Go on, then." I smile, looking at her expectantly. She bites her upper lip, then types.
- When i reached the park, a lady, Sophie, found me. She took me home and sort of adopted me, but never called me her child, for she respected mum and dad, and i quote - "I never got to have a child, but I will never steal one." She belived that I had rightful owners, dead or alive, and she couldn't claim me, but she'd take me in nonetheless.
We never got to have full meals, for although she was extremely kind, she was also poor. Her job was a waitress, and her salary was very little. As a matter of fact it still is.
Then recently, this girl, according to my nurse, Megan Lohanna, pushed me down a long flight of steps and this happened
She gestured to herself.
- My 'roommate', Arissa, had a bad fall too. She-
Leo cuts her off.
"She was skateboarding, and someone pushed her. On to the road. Yeah, I know." He paused. "So... You were the girl who was in the room with her? What was it... 11?" He clarifies. She nods. Leo raises his eyebrows and a surprised look crossed his face.
- Then weeks pass, and I get discharged, with a ton of meds, of course. Then, I faint, and he catches me and brings me here.
Rowan nods her head in ny direction.
Leo smiles at me thankfully, sending a message of thanks. I grin back at him, acknowledging it.
Rowan suddenly becomes very quite, which isn't unusual, for she is kind of mute, but at least quieter than she normally is. Her eyes go dull for a second - she momentarily squeezes them shut, then regains her composure and breathes out just a tiny bit louder. Leo doesn't notice. The sudden clicking does, though.
- Do you guys want to come over to my place? I'll ask Sophie?
"Sure!" Leo exclaims almost right away, jumping up a little. Rowan smiles.
- Alright, give me a minute
She goes to her messaging app and sends 'Sophie' a message that she'll be having 'special guests' over for lunch. When Sophie replied with I'll make some pizza, Rowan quickly declined with, Nonono, I'll order some Chinese on the way.

●●●

The ride to Rowan's place is silent. With me having successfully calling shotgun, Leo drving and Rowan in the back, we only stopped once - to order food. Chinese, I may add.
Rowan resets the sat-nav to her address, and with the warm takeout in my lap, we drive off.
After a little while, we finally reach her place, or at least the sat-nav says so. The two o' clock sky is covered with a sheet of grey thunderclouds, accompanied by a sudden clap of thunder. Leo speaks up.
"W-we're here." He says, his tone sounding as if he was enchanted.
"That's the park that she ran off to." He informs me, pointing at a land of grass and trees, along with the bench that I saw her at.
Rowan smiles at us, gesturing for us to follow her into the house, the door already open. It's like its trying to help her, but the sheet of clouds start to cry, not only wetting Leo and I but also forcing us to enter the house.
When we step inside, a middle-aged lady, maybe about 45, walks out of a room in a blank white t-shirt and a pair of grey shorts. She smiles at us, gesturing to follow her inside the room.
We enter the living area and sit on the comprimised couch. Turns out that the 'couch' is some wooden chairs, along with two cushions for the armrests, narrow matresses and a simple brown bedsheet. They don't seem to have a telly, and the room seems to be quite bare. They do, however, have a nicely potted plant in the corner, which somehow brings more life to the feeling. Leo's eyes light up when he sees the plant.
"That's the seed I gave you, isn't it?" He asks, gratifyingly astonished. Rowan gives him a small smile and nods, nudging the lady - whom I presume is Sophie.
"Hello, boys. I'm Sophie, Rowan's not-mother." She introduces herself with a warm smile. We nod politely in return. Wow, this lady really didn't want Rowan as her daughter.
After a brief moment of silence, Sophie stands up.
"We can't go without lunch now, can we?" She walks out, presumably to the kitchen, getting our lunch fixed. I look over to Rowan, who is on her phone, tapping the screen intently.
"What are you doing?" I ask, shufting over to her side, looking over her shoulder. She realises that I'd came and shows me the screen. Blocks of different shapes varying from red, orange, yellow, blue, green to purple. One look and I recognised the game immediately - good old Tetris.
She only stopped playing for a split second, for the 'cycle' box was draining in colour at a rather fast rate. Just then, Sophie called from the kitchen, "Lunch is ready!"
The three of us ambled to the dining room, the Chinese food all steamy and well-prepared for us in little paper plates. The cups were reasonably thin glasses, with iced water inside.

-I AM A LAZY ASS BOOP-

After the ambrosial lunch, we speak to Sophie a little more, Leo mostly. I decide to abandon my friend and follow Rowan up to her room, and watch in a corner as she starts playing Minecraft.
She gets a mouse - a cheap, lousy ass mouse, that costs no more than 20 pounds. It's those really cheap and shit ones, but it seems to be in a quite good condition.
With no mousepad, she goes on playing and building stuff, with a creepy me watching her as I sit on her soft duvet, and soon enough, after much of my body and mind's persuation, I fall asleep.

-BOOP BOOP BOOOOOOOP-

When I wake up, I smell a scent of lavender-rose, and a mess of hair in my face. Why was there that?
Fulttering my eyes open, I realise that there's actually someone who managed to get me to cuddle them while I was sleeping.
Then I further notice that the someone is Rowan - red hair, small body and lavender scent. I hear voices mumbling outside the door.
"No, she's just really lonely. You see, I'm rarely at home, due to money anf financial problem, and she can cope alright, but she's lonely. She doesn't have many friends, and she can sleep with basically anyone really." The familiar voice of Sophie states, to Leo, I assume.
"But, she was just laying there, so..." Leo trails his sentence off suggestively.
"No!" Sophie protests firmly. "Well, not yet, at least." She changes her mind.
