I hate my life.
I hadn't updated in a long while, for about a month, but that is because I couldn't figure out how to tell the story without boring everyone to death. So I will do my best to finish it within the next few days because my story isn't that long.
*Continuing with the story*
"Alright, so we're going to Camp Half-Blood," I thought out loud. I heard Katrina attempt to hold back a laugh and I turned to look at her. "What?"
"It's just-" she started, but couldn't manage to do anything but laugh. Cory joined in on the laughing, my attention turned to him.
"What the heck is you guy's problem?" I asked, it came out almost like a growl.
"Okay," Katrina breathed, trying to catch her breath. "Okay, okay. It's just, Camp Half-Blood doesn't exist."
"What?!" I asked in bewilderment. "Then, what about...and the-"
"But Camp Demigod does," Cole interrupted.
"Honestly, why on earth would we publish such secrets?" Katrina explained. "Gods, we don't even live on Long Island!"
I stayed quiet for a moment as I processed what they were saying. "Then where do you guys live?"
"On Rhode Island of course! It's close...sort of," Cole interjected.
"The book is a pure pun! People think that New York City is called 'The Big Apple' because of some horse race. It's actually because camp used to be located there before it got too crowded and camp had a huge apple farm," Katrina told me, her tone was giggly.
"And, the camp still does. It's funded by the new apple farm," Cole said.
"While the rest is just a bunch of gender-bend joy. Except for Taylor. I mean, you'd know Taylor as 'Thalia Grace' if you'd read the series. Rebecca is also an exception, the author made up the romance between her and the gender-bend version of Jillion. I mean, Rebeccagx is 'Reyna' and Jillion is 'Jason'. Am I forgetting anything?" Katrina asked Cole.
"All of the huntresses, of course, are female. And Nico is a guy. It's just that when Rick found out that he like Pearl, aka Percy, then he decided that he must include that and so many people think that Nico is gay but really he's bi."
"Because Will Solace is still a guy, so yeah," Katrina added, her eyes seemed to darken a little.
"Seriously? Why go through all of that trouble just for that?" I asked.
"If we just told the entire world the names of our heroes, how would anyone be able to get around without being noticed? No one would be able to! Besides, then all of the monsters would know their weaknesses so they could kill them," Katrina explained as though it was obvious.
"So, all of that stuff online-"
"Some of it is made up, yes. But most of it...is just a glorified version of the truth," Cole told me. "You see, there are campers in the Hermes cabin that have never been claimed and they're fifteen. When they get too hung up on that, they start writing a story about what they think will happen, or what they hope will happen."
"Which includes the love stories of dating Nico. Nico...he's taken...but that doesn't mean that girls can't like him. I'm just saying that those are either old stories or made-up by some of his fangirls," Katrina told me, she seemed to be unenthusiastic about explaining that part. "Anyway, the whole camp is in on the joke so they go along with 'Percy Jackson' and 'Annabeth Chase'. It's against the rules for any camper to release the information to outsiders."
I nodded. "So, who do you guys think my parent is?"
"Well, there was a prophecy about a child of Zeus, and he or she were supposed to save the world," Cory started.
"And Zeus told us that they'd be at Yancy High School, and so we went there. We knew what we were looking for, a child that couldn't seem to stay out of trouble and then we just automatically found you," Katrina finished the story. "Besides, 'Storm'? It's like your mom wanted monsters to know who you are."
From there, we just kept walking, sometimes we would have a conversation about something normal like why knives are never sharp enough anymore and sometimes I'd bring up events from the books and they'd explain what had really happened.
Along on the trip, we never had any trouble with monster attacks. I was surprised about that, and so were Katrina and Cory. I thought that a child of Zeus would be running into monsters around every other corner, but apparently that didn't seem to be the case for me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the easy trip. It meant that I wouldn't need to face any monsters with my deadly scissors. But the lack of action sort of made the trip seem to drag on and on...
Finally came the part where we rode a ferry to get to camp. The ride seemed to drag on for days since I was just hoping to get to camp right away. Then came the time when we finally got to camp.
I was extremely excited and exhausted. Exhausted because sleeping in abandoned cars was not exactly comfortable and excited because-well who wouldn't be? We were at camp! My dream!
I started running to the border, giving it all I got while Cory and Katrina jogged beside me. I couldn't wait to start training to be fit and educated like them.
But then...tragedy struck.
We were all sprinting towards camp, but then it was only Cory and Katrina who were sprinting while I bounced back as a slammed into something.
They stopped running and turned back towards me, shock in their expressions. I shook my head and pushed myself off of the ground. "Okay, let's try this again," I murmured before jogging towards Cory and Katrina again, but the same thing happened. I was shot to the ground again, this time I kept my eyes forward and saw the shocks of the invisible dome that I had hit.
"Storm!" Katrina screeched, running back to me as I just sat on the ground and stared dumbfounded forward. "I can't believe that...I'm so sorry."
"What happened?" Cory asked while walking towards us.
"She's a-"
"Mortal" I interrupted Katrina. "I'm a mortal, you didn't get the kid that you were supposed to get, I should've known."
"No, Storm. You did nothing wrong," Cory told me.
"I'm the one that should've known, I'm the one that first told Cory that I suspected that you were the one," Katrina claimed.
"No, no. I didn't tell you guys the truth," I sighed. "That blue smoothie...it's the opposite of ambrosia. Only mortals can drink it without dying, and I drank it. And...that one monster threw a weapon at me. It flew right through me, it was that type of bronze that only harms monsters and demigods while not even touching mortals."
"It's okay. We'll just go back and this time we'll get the right person," Katrina said. "We'll drop you off and you can just continue on with the life that you had before, it's much better than the life demigods are forced to live anyway."
"But I don't want to go back," I told her. "Never, I hate that place. I'd rather sit out here, staring at the camp until a monster kills me than to go back."
"It's okay, life gets better-"
"Shut it, Cory," Katrina interrupted. "She is one of us whether her genetics agree or not. I know a way to give her a life even better than one of a camper." She then whispered something into Cory's ear and grinned while his face dropped.
Cory glanced at me, and then back to Katrina. "You don't mean-"
"Come on, it wouldn't have worked out anyway," she rolled her eyes. "Stay here and keep an eye on her, I'm going to bring her over here.". Katrina ran off into camp, which is something that I would give anything to be able to do.
He held out his hand to help me up, I took it and stood next to him. "What was that all about?" I asked him.
Cory sighed, "She knows about a way that you can come to camp every once in a while and never have to return to your old life."
"'Every once in a while'? I want to stay here for the rest of my days," I claimed.
"As long as you never date a boy, you'll be able to do just that," he told me as he looked down at the ground. "Just...try not to change too much."
I didn't ask him any further questions as they all the answer started walking towards me with Katrina by her side.
