I hate lunch time.

Cory and I sat down at the round table that was in the corner furthest from the loud crowd. I had gotten a salad while he bought himself a hamburger and a smoothie that looked like it was made out of blue crap.

"How could you even think about eating that?" I asked with a clear tone of disgust.

"What" he asked as he looked at his lunch and then at mine. "Are you a vegetarian?"

I ignored him and gestured to his smoothie. "That thing, it's-"

"How is it going over here?" a cheerful lunch lady interrupted. Even though she wore a hairnet and casual clothes, her beauty still shone through. Her vibrant red hair was clearly visible through the hairnet and her green eyes twinkled. She leaned on the table; her shirt started sinking a little too low for comfort. "I see that you got the blue raspberry smoothie, nice choice," she winked at Cory. He responded by sinking into his chair and poking the smoothie with a plastic straw.

"The lunch is wonderful, thank you for checking on us," I smiled, trying to make her leave.

"Try the smoothie," she suggested as if she hadn't heard me. She then took a straw out of her fanny pack and stuck it into the smoothie even though there was already one there. "Now you two can share!"

Cory looked unsure of what to do. "Sorry, but I'm full." The lady grabbed the cup and put it right in front of his face, Cory stared at it cross-eyed. I noticed that she had a nametag; it said "Ms. Grace" on it. Her eyes then caught my attention, they seemed to have twinkled before but now they seemed to glow a bright green. I snatched the cup out of her grip and began to chug it. My brain instantly started to freeze upon impact, but I forced myself to go as long as possible. The smoothie tasted terrific, like a blue raspberry Jolly Rancher. When my brain finally couldn't take it anymore, I set it on the table and squeezed my eyes shut, focusing on my brain warming up. It took a few seconds until the pain was bearable and I looked at the smoothie. I had barely drank half of the cup.

"Alright dear, now that it has been taste-tested the young man should try it," Ms. Grace suggested.

As a last resort, I coughed into the cup a few times. "Sorry, dud. I know how much you wanted that smoothie but now it's contaminated," I apologized, Cory slightly smirked and hid it by taking a large bite out of his hamburger. The lunch lady walked off, I could tell that I ticked her off. I looked away and walked to the trashcans with the half-full smoothie, although it had been delicious, my brain started to feel cold whenever I thought about taking another sip.

I couldn't help but look back at Cory while I raised my arm to drop the cup into the trashcan; he continued to attack his hamburger. A faint smile nearly made its way on my face but was quickly replaced by a gasp when a cold hand wrapped around my wrist. The smoothie was dropped into the trash and I flicked my head back to see who had grabbed my wrist. It was Ms. Grace.

She smiled at me, the smile that she had when she was trying to convince Cory to drink the smoothie. "We need to chat, darling."
