Kat
*told from Julia's perspective*
"Oh shit!" I yell, after eating Luke's delicious waffles.
"Calm down." Luke says softly.
"What's the 'oh shit' about?" Alexa asks.
"Kat. We're supposed to meet her five minutes ago." I explain.
"Holy fuck she's right. Where are we going with her today?" Alexa responds.
"You are supposed to be the planner and the thinker and the stuff rememberer. In other words, how the hell should I know?" I reply.
Alexa snaps her fingers. "Hell! We're taking her to the theatre."
"How did the word hell remind you of the theatre?" I inquire.
"Well, the theatre is haunted, ghosts are dead, if you're not a ghost you go to the underworld or become a zombie or vampire or-" Alexa begins on an endless list before I cut her off.
"We get it, you think like an insane person. Let's go!" I motion towards the door.
Alexa grabs a her satchel, which I assume is filled with books and papers, and bolts out the door. "We can't be any later than we already are. Hustle your bustles!" She yells.
Luke rolls his eyes and saunters out the door. I follow, excited for what lies ahead.
"Can we walk around a little first?" I beg.
"Fine, we can take the long way to the theatre." Alexa compromises.
I jump for joy and sprint across the street to get Kat. "Hi Kat! Sorry we're late. Follow me!"
Once we start walking to the theatre Alexa informs Kat about what to do and what not to do in town.
"See that building over there?" Alexa points off into the distance. "That is Pizzarino's. Best pizza joint in town. Actually, it's the only pizza place in town. The others disappeared, and so did their owners. Don't ask."
Kat seems to be following along, less freaked out than yesterday.
"We're heading over to the theatre. It has a colorful history." Alexa states.
"It's haunted!" I yell.
"Yes Jul, it's haunted. For decades that building has been infested with ghosts." Alexa explains. "Nobody knows who they are or why they're there. Nobody questions it, for their own good."
Geez, Lexa really does know how to make people get so scared they shit themselves without showing them anything. Very eloquent. I've tried do the same, but to no avail. Nothing in town is very harmful.
"Here we are, the haunted theatre." Alexa announces whilst I make ghost noises in the background. "Thanks for the sound effects, Jul. This place used to be a funeral home. Now it's a theatre. And yes, it's still running, although shows aren't frequent anymore."
All of a sudden, Kat sprints off. Damn, she can run fast on those little twig legs.
"Kat!" I scream and take off after her. Lexa and Luke enter the theatre to try and appease the ghosts that haunt the place. Luckily they don't do much. Honestly, they're one of the most fun parts of town . There's a ghost cat that sits on your lap of you sit in a certain chair, a beautiful actress who performs a different monologue every day at 12:00, a little boy who follows people around whenever they have food, and many, many others. Friendly ghosts, like Caspar. Oh, and the elevator doesn't have a door so you see everything pass you as you go up or down. And under the elevator are the stairs to the basement, which is like a labyrinth. In one room there's a book of old papers, in another there's a creepy doll, and the floor isn't floor. It's just dirt.
Sorry, Kat ran off. Luckily, being a practiced runner, I caught up to her and made her stop.
"Look, I know this place seems a little bit daunting. Alexa has a way of exaggerating the little things and downplaying the huge things. This happens to be one of the little things."
Kat writes a message on the chalkboard she pulled out of her satchel. It reads,"I shouldn't be here. They don't like me."
"Well, if you want to go home for the rest of the day it would be just fine." I suggest. "I'll tell Lexa and Luke."
Kat smiles blankly and darts off. I walk leisurely back to the theatre, knowing that Lexa and Luke will probably be out of there when I arrive. And what do you know, I was right.
"Where the hell did Kat disappear to?" Luke inquires.
"She went home for the day. Guys, I think Kat was or worsed." I reply.
"What makes you think that?" Luke asks.
"She said she had to leave because 'they don't like me'." I explain.
"Is it possible she meant us?" Lex suggests.
"Oh, yeah." I mutter, embarrassed.
"On a lighter note, I had a very productive conversation with Mr. Ezard, and he says that the other ghosts are doing just fine with the new arrivals." Alexa states proudly. Mr. Ezard has been the owner of the theatre for 299 years, 300 years in a couple days. This should have been a given, but he too is a ghost.
"That's good to hear." I respond. Mr. Ezard is probably our favorite ghost. He runs the whole theatre company, and he can't even hold a pen. "We might be able to get Kat's memories back if she was or worsed, right?" I ask, hoping we can help her.
"Well, I suppose we could try. But I can't make any promises." Lexa replies.
"We've only known her for one day. How should we know that this isn't the way she normally acts?" Luke suggests to lighten the mood.
"Yeah, we shouldn't worry. You guys are right, we don't have any way of knowing for sure." I reply. Kat is going to be just fine.
