Home Sweet Home

*told from Alexa's point of view*
"This is our humble abode." I announce as we come to a dead end. Kat looks confused, probably because we're looking at a scruffy brick wall. I put my finger on a brick and pull it back. Viola, the secret door opens.

"It's not much, but we like to call it home." Julia remarks. She loves to say cheesy crap.

Our house is unconventional, to say the least. The walls are cream colored and floor is cherrywood. Mainly because it hides bloodstains. Pretend I didn't mention that. When you enter, you walk straight into the living room. The kitchen is adjacent. There's no whirlwind of color, just a couch and entertainment center. Oh, and my work area, filled with scrolls, papers, and books. And, of course, bookshelves galore. We don't have a dining room so much as a breakfast nook, which works for us. I do the financial business there, so it's quite cluttered. The kitchen isn't much, just an oven, microwave, sink, fridge, and some cabinets.

"Make yourself at home. Oh, and one more thing." I forgot to tell her something. "LUKE! GET OUT HERE!"

Luke is our other roommate. He has deep green eyes, skin the color of milk chocolate, and is as tall as goddamn Mount Olympus. He's smart, a little bit of a pushover, and sensitive. Many people confuse us for a couple, but that's not at a the case. However, we are all best friends.

"Hey there Lexlex, Juljul." Luke remarks. That's one of the many nicknames he has for us. "Who's this?"

"This is Kat, we're showing her around town." Julia explains.

Luke gasps in shock. "I THOUGHT WE WERE ALL GOING TO WELCOME THE NEWCOMERS!!!"

We are, obviously, dramatic around here.

"You can show her your room after we show her ours."

"Fine." He grumbles.

Julia and I led Kat up to our room, which is probably the weirdest place. If you look at the bare bones, it's average. A bed, a desk, a bedside table, one closet, and two small dressers. We do love to read. Maps of supernatural realms adorn the walls. But the weirdest part is the weapons. A chest full of weapons, spell books, and classified information.

"Well, that's really all there is to show here." Julia rushes her out of the room. "You can go meet up with Luke downstairs. He'll show you the rest."

"Julia, we need to talk." I grimly say as I close the door.

"No. We'll be fine. It's all ok." Julia tries to assure me.

"That's not a given, Jul." We haven't told anyone, but the spirits have been giving warning signs. Everyone knows, but until someone vocalizes it, no one, and I mean no one, but Jul, Luke, and I will do a thing about it. Trust me, things like this have happened before. But not like this. There were different circumstances then. Then, the spirits had a goal. Then, it was easily resolved, no violence. Then, no one moved in. Then, everything was fine. Now, the spirits are already showing their violent, darker side. Now, there are ten new households, with seventeen new residents total. Now, everything and everyone is in a state of possible mortal peril. And who knows how long it will last. In fact, Julia and I weren't even going to welcome Kat, but then we decided that the more people know about the spirits and how not to anger them, the better. Luckily, they have not done any reckless things yet. Just minor problems, annoyances at worst. But we can hear them. When we go to see them, they sound irritated. Except when Kat came by the Asan Tallan house today. Maybe this is the right way to go. It's always a possibility. The spirits are a looming threat in the distance. They could pounce at any time.

"Look, they seemed fine today at the Asan Tallan house." Julia tries to sway my opinion.

"Yeah. Maybe this will work. But if it doesn't-" I'm cut off.

"We have time to figure out what we'll do if our current approach doesn't work. Try not to worry." Julia coaxes.

"LEXI!!!! C'MON!!!!!! WE GOTTA TAKE HER HOME." Luke calls up the stairs.

"SHE LIVES ACROSS THE STREET DUMBASS!" I retaliate.

"JUST COME DOWNSTAIRS." He responds.

Julia and I go downstairs and find that Kat has already left.

"What do you want?" Julia inquires.

"I was going to have you guys take her home, but then she left on her own. Anyways, do you want pizza tonight?" Luke asks.

"Duh. Get the JAL Special." I respond. The JAL Special is three pizzas, one with all of the meats, one with stuffed crust, and one with everything but spinach and pineapple.

"Okey dokey, I'll go order." Julia jumps at the chance to talk to the boy who answers the phone for Pizzarino's Pizza Palace. Apparently she saw him once and thinks he's cute.

"So, perspective partner?" I ask Luke. See, we're such good friends that we've got to talk to each other about our love life. Every time someone remotely attractive and competent comes along we judge them by their compatibility. It's not as complex as it might seem.

"Nah, communication would be too hard. Plus, she looks kinda frigid." Luke replies.

"Picky picky." I scold.

"What? She's just not my type." He defends himself.

"I know. Honestly, I can't see us being that great of friends with her." I confess.

"Yeah." Luke agrees.

Julia bounces into the room with a spring in her step. "Whatcha talking about?"

"Prospective partner." I say.

She nods and spreads out on the couch. Time for a typical night at our home sweet home.
