Another Tour
*told from Alexa's point of view*
Julia was supposed to tell this part, but she's too busy fawning over Rod. Therefore I'll tell the next section. Where are we?
Oh right. Julia and I are going to give Rod a tour of hell, the second tour we'll be giving today. Kat probably couldn't handle hell, and to be honest, Rod probably can't either. But he's Julia's boyfriend now. This stuff is a daily basis kind of thing with her, so he's got to be prepared. I need to remember to negotiate with Eli about that raise.
"This over here is the working sector. It's for employees and, well, us. Mostly residential type stuff, a few restaurants and shops here and there." I motion over to the employee homes. "You won't be seeing our residence today, there's too much other stuff to get to first."
"You guys live in hell?" Rod stupidly inquires.
"Well, it's more like a time share.." Julia explains. "Just kidding! No, we don't have a house in hell."
"What's a time share?" Rod asks.
"You have got to be kidding me." I sigh.
"Go check out the amusement park." Jul suggests.
Rod shrugs and dashes away into the cheesy tourist trap.
"He's a complete and utter imbecile." I comment.
"What's so bad about him? Sure he's kind of simple, but he's sweet." Jul defends her new boyfriend.
"You just formally met him, how would you know?" I inquire.
"No, I met him in grade school. I just haven't talked to him in years." Jul retorts. "How do you know he's not good enough for me?"
"Somebody is forgetting that I have the power to read people accurately and easily." I retort.
"That's not a real power, you just so happen to be right a lot. So what if he doesn't pass your test? I am in love with him and that's the only thing that really matters." Jul states.
"You just met the guy, how could you be in love?" I ask, attempting to hold back a snicker.
"Okay, maybe I'm not in love with him, but I see something in him that might turn into a relationship." Jul replies.
Jul falls in love too easily and too often. She's kissed more guys than I've slapped, and that's a large, large number. A few times she's even moved out to live with guys. Luckily she didn't go through with moving into her last boyfriend's apartment, otherwise I'd have had to live alone with Luke. I guess she gets them hooked on her and she gets hooked on them. After awhile one of them gets bored or falls out of love and breaks it off, and it's usually not her. They see her as an object, not a human, and it makes me sick. I don't know why she doesn't just stay away.
"That's what you say every time." I respond.
"This time it's really true. I think I could love him." Jul says with complete sincerity.
"That's your choice, Jul. I'm not fixing this one for you." I retort.
"I understand." Jul nods.
"I have to ask, what do you find cute about Rod?" I inquire.
"His hair." Jul replies.
"Hmm." I say under my breath.
"What's 'hmm'?" Jul asks.
"Nothing, nothing. I just don't see the appeal." I reply.
"Of course you don't, you've never been attracted to anyone." Jul retorts.
"Yes I have, I just don't act on it. You must be thinking of crushes, I don't get those." I correct her.
"Well whatever it is you hide it well." Jul pauses. "You should date Luke."
"Out of the question." I respond.
"Come on! He loves you." She says in a sing-songy tone.
"I refuse to believe that. The best part about Luke is free waffles." I answer.
"That's your decision. It's the wrong decision, but it's yours." Jul replies.
"I could've said the same thing to you not but a moment ago but I held my tongue." I retort. Julia snickers. "Well, I tried to hold my tongue."
Jul mumbles some snide comment and then drops the subject altogether. All of a sudden, Rod dashes out of the theme park looking absolutely terrified, like he saw a ghost, which he probably did. Judging by his behavior up until this point I wouldn't be surprised if he saw Caspar and bolted.
"Get me out of here! Get me out get me out get me out get me out get me out get me out get me out get me out!" Rod demands in between his shrieks of terror.
"I'll take you back to the farm. Lex, you go talk to Eli about that raise for Larry. Rod and I will wait for you in the barn." Jul takes Rod by the arm and leads him to the portal. I hear his pathetic whimpers and Julia's futile attempts to comfort him.
"And then there was one." I mutter to myself as I stroll up to Eli's palace. "Nobody thinks not to bring the wimp along, and here we are."
I ring the doorbell and wait on Eli's glorious porch. Actually, it's not just his. Chike lives with him. Osiris and Hades live next door in yet another humongous palace. Both palaces rest on a small hill, just outside of the business sector.
"I told you people, I'm off duty today." Eli says while opening the door.
"Hi!" I exclaim as I give him a hug. It's been about a ten months since Jul and I have visited this place. We've had a lot going on.
"Lexa, marvelous to see you, simply marvelous! Come in, make yourself comfortable. No Julia today I see." Eli welcomes me.
"We were showing her new beau around and the theme park was too much for him. I doubt he even got past the 7 minutes in hell ride!" I explain.
"At least she dumped the Austin fellow, he was an idiot." Eli replies.
"The biggest idiot. I have a request for you." I respond.
"Straight to business today." Eli remarks.
"Sorry, I'd love to stay, but Jul and Rod are waiting in the barn for me." I explain.
"Not to worry, it's fine. But before we discuss business, his name is Rod?" Eli inquires.
"Yeah, and that's only half as stupid as he appears to be. Anyways, Larry has been having some trouble with his hours." I state.
"He's working night shifts, correct?" Eli asks. The big four take impeccable care of their employees.
"Yes. The problem is, he doesn't get to see his family at all. His wife works most of the day and his son is in school, then when they get home he has to leave. Is there any way we could fix that?" I inquire.
"Of course! Poor Larry, I've always liked him. I'll switch him to the midday shift as soon as possible. And I'll throw in a pay raise as consolation." Eli agrees.
"Magnificent! I'll text you a reminder, just so you don't forget." I reply as I leave.
"Wonderful! Always nice to see you, my dear! You simply must stop by more often." Eli says as he waves me goodbye.
"Great to see you as well! I'll try to arrange a get together sometime." I yell across the yard as I close the gate.
Good to know hell is still in top shape.
