Part 6
He lived closer to Los Angeles. I didn't care much for the bustle of the big city, but I understood why he lived there.
He got out his keys and began unlocking the door of a pretty large ranch-style home. It wasn't overly extravagant. It looked pretty normal, but it was still very nice.
"I've been wanting to move back to my hometown, in Connecticut. This big city life has made me tired."
He opened the door, and led me inside before turning on the light.
The living room was rather large and decorated in a way that didn't seem to be chosen by Peter; it was obviously the house he had shared with a woman. My heart sank to my stomach.
He must have noticed something was wrong. "Why the glum look? Do you want to go home?"
I shook my head. I would come right out and ask. I had to, I can't get my heart broken again.
"Peter, are you seeing someone?"
He looked at me, then looked down sadly. "No. I just got divorced four months ago."
I suddenly regretted asking. It wasn't my business, my place, to ask him a personal question just because I was already falling for him.
He perked up a bit, I think just to clear the air. "I've got records. Want me to put one on?"
I shook my head, forcing a smile. He rummaged through a shelf for a moment before pulling a record out of its sleeve and putting it on the player itself. I didn't see what it was. He moved the needle to a certain song, and turned up the volume.
I almost jumped when I heard the familiar opening noises of the song "Today" by Jefferson Airplane. It was a beautiful song I had always cherished.
"I really love this song, Peter." He smiled.
"I knew you would." He slowly walked over to me, reaching out his hand. I grabbed it, and he gently pulled me up from where I sat.
He put his hands on my waist, pulling me close to him, and I placed my hands on his shoulders.
We looked into each other's eyes and danced.
