Part 3

Madeline:

I walked to a nearby cafe for lunchtime. It was small and didn't seem too busy; plus, it appeared to have much better food than the cafeteria at my college.

The cafe had a small little stage inside of it, facing the tables. Apparently every Friday and Saturday nights, they allowed live entertainment. This, of course, made me happy.

I loved to perform and see others do the same. I sat myself down, looking over the menu.

I noticed there was only one other man there; he was sitting alone off in the corner. He looked to be about in his late forties, but was incredibly handsome.

He looked strangely familiar, even..

Peter:

I sat at my favorite cafe where I would do a little gig at tomorrow night; I had talked over with the owner and we decided I would now perform here every Friday. It seemed like a perfect way to get back upon my feet.

I looked up when I heard the door bell ring as a customer came in. She was a very cute, curly haired girl. She looked about college-aged. I noticed her slightly glancing at me.

Maybe she recognizes me, I thought. I finished my cup of coffee and decided to make conversation with her.

I walked to her table steadily.

"Hello, how are you today?"

She gave me a puzzled look at first, but then her face softened and she blushed as she answered me.

"I'm fine, I guess. This cafe is very nice. Maybe I'll try and play here sometime."

My eyes lit up. "Oh, wow! I'm going to start playing here on Friday nights. What do you play?"

"Piano. I sing too."

She gave me a shy, yet radiant smile. She was very friendly. I hadn't talked to anyone like this in quite a while, it seemed.

"What about you?",  she asked.

"Oh, I play guitar, bass guitar, piano, sing. You name it. I'm a bit of a washed up musician. My prime time was over years ago, but you know. I still enjoy to preform from time to time."

I looked down, suddenly feeling sad as I had a slight thought back to the 60's with the boys. It was all so brand new then. A lot had happened in the years that had passed.

She broke the silence, and my thoughts, thankfully.

"Oh, what did you do in the past?"

I smiled.

"I was a Monkee. Well, I guess I still am one. I'm an on again, off again Monkee." I smiled at her as jokingly as I could, even though that was true.

"I knew I recognized you from somewhere, Peter." She smiled playfully before glancing up at the clock on the wall.

She quickly stood up and left some money on the table for her waiter. "I have to get back to class. I'll see you here tomorrow night. I'd love to see you play." She walked away, giving a small wave as she walked out the door.

My day so far had been the best I'd had in a while, and I couldn't stop thinking about her.
