Chapter 2
"Cooper..." I murmured. "Jackson's little brother." Brandy shivers, obviously worried. "That man won't come for us, will he?" She asks in a frightened tone. She's very mature for her age, but I can see a child's fear in her eyes. I sit on the couch next to her and give her a tight hug.
"Everything will be fine." I tell her, though I doubt myself. I straighten up and walk over to the table. "Well, enough of this foolish nonsense, come and eat so we can leave." I tell her, pointing to her chair.
She sniffles, but rises off the couch and walks over to the table. I can tell she's stressed out, and I feel terrible. "Actually, you know what?" I ask her with a mischievous grin.
"What?" She sniffs.
"How about we skip school and go watch a movie?" I ask her, grabbing some money off the counter. She widens her eyes, but then nods.
Our parents aren't very strict, so we can go and watch a movie, so long as we have straight A's. I have a B+ in math, but I'm sure I'll get it raised by the time the semester is over. I dump my remaining coffee in the sink, and Brandy does the same with her cereal. I then proceed to leave our parents a note about where we are and what we're doing, then we head outside.
It's only a short walk to the movie theatre, and once we arrive we decide on a movie, The Boss Baby. Brandy and I laugh the whole time, because we can relate to the baby and the boy. As soon as the movie is over, we head home, passing three police cruisers and a sobbing elderly woman. I stopped to listen in on what they were saying.
"I was just on my way to pick him up from school, and when I arrived he wasn't there! The secretary said another woman with stony eyes and matted brown hair had come and picked him up!" She bawled, obviously upset. When an officer noticed us, he barked, "Keep moving!" We did as said, walking briskly towards home.
